Hi everyone in the kitchen just now ... would you believe it I’ve just received a lovely bottle of the very finest gin delivered by Amazon. It’s a Christmas gift from lovely Dil in Manchester. Of course I’m going to open it now and share it with you all ... where’s the ice kept please?.

A sherry with a gin chaser . Had a rough day MIL heart attack in hospital DH so upset ...she is 93 and none of her children can visit ( of course) DD children ( 4 and 7 )
Isolation as in contact with covid case at school & nursery . DD is a single working Mum .....and I cant help her !
Tomorrow must be better at least it's the weekend so DH at home and not worrying himself at work

As requested, I bring Gaviscon, just in case. I hope Mr Doodle is still improving. As it’s turning colder towards the big day, I may try on my snow boots, not used them for a few years, bright pink in case I fall over and can’t be found, not that I’ve ever done that, falling over that is. Think I’ll stop digging now.

Where I live in NW London there are adverts for people able to vaccinate. I am well qualified to do it but I would not expect to be paid and almost £24 an hour is being offered. I do not think I will, for my own safety as I am 77, with medical problems.

Maybe pay a tenner a week towards petrol but I would not expect to be paid this is not a flu jab. Am I being unreasonable?

After the afternoon I’ve had I’ll have a mince pie or two please with a very large Sherry and a gin chaser please.......

I was led to believe that all the goodies in this kitchen were calorie free and guaranteed to cause no ill effects.
I'll have some of that gin with a mince pie please for medicinal reasons only, of course.

Hello lovely people - hope everyone is well on this miserable midwinter afternoon?? I used to love gin - had done for years then just over two years ago I had a very close call with sepsis. This left me with a number of after effects, one of them being my taste buds totally changed. I'm sure you've guessed it - I absolutely hate gin!! The smell of it turns my stomach - so strange after loving it for many years. However I still love a nice glass of red wine.....I'm sure Mr BA will open a bottle to breathe shortly . Ker-nock Ker-nock! The wanderer returns. I’m afraid I completely missed the closing of the last kitchen and the opening of this one, and I have never missed a kitchen yet so I thought I’d better get my skates on or, judging by the way it’s galloping along, I might miss this one!
I have come to the conclusion that the old gal cannot cut the mustard these days. I made a batch of mince pies, intending to carry on making them most of the afternoon, and when I got to sixteen, I was completely exhausted - so I gave up. We ate four and I offer the rest up to go with your gin (yes!!) and whotnot! They need a dusting of icing sugar but I’m guessing you lot will have polished them off before I get it out of the cupboard! Save some for Soop!
Doodle I’m sorry to hear your DH has been in the wars - I hope he’s making good progress. My DH broke three ribs once, watering a hanging basket over the garage door, the ladder toppled over, he bounced off the bonnet of the car and hit the floor. Thankfully, the car was undamaged......

Pulease ladies, especially LauraNorder do you not think the AA has enough to do without you increasing their workload because the ladees do not know what a glass constitutes. It is anything from a thimble to a litre glass. This lot have very sweet teeth and love cakes and biscuits. I know you have a kind heart but the hospitals are overrun at present and can not admit any more trips and falls especially alcohol-driven.

Gin ann - you do not want to dislocate your lovely new hip replacement- please stick with tea or coffee.

I really do despair.

Galen I have tried tuns and sardines which madam hates and she turned her nose up at freshly cooked chicken. It is not she does not want to eat, the kitchen staff have not found anything remotely enticing for madam for days.

I found a fairly cheap can of cat food a while ago which madam loved. There are at least 8 cans languishing in her private food cupboard because she no longer likes it. She has even turned up her nose at the Z/D prescription food which she has loved for 12 years. She gave up about 3 years ago bringing home her own hot meal in the evenings (thank goodness).

A good job I am not so fussy. She does like butter and marmalade without the toast but it is not exactly cat food. The one good thing is that the liquid medicine, Thyronorm is tasteless.

Have you tried giving Tara the medication in a small ball of fish paste or liver pâté?

That is sad to hear Charleygirl poor Tara.
Giving medicine to animals is never easy particularly if they are not wanting to eat.
I remember trying to give eye drops to our Granddoggy, Dexter and he would run off and chase around the flower beds.
I hope she is allowed to have her op and then she may feel more like eating.

Sorry to hear about Tara, she has a not-so-nice road ahead as it is important to stabilise her condition, but if the medication method is not working the surgery will.
As she is intelligent I would try explaining the options to her and maybe she’ll give in and eat the food including medicine.
If only it was that simple.
Try not to worry about her Charleygirl, I know that’s easier said than done.

Those of you who "know" Tara know she was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. She is not good at following orders so last month only took her medicine carefully hidden in food when she fancied which was not often. That has stopped I now have to measure the correct amount from the syringe, apply it to my finger with a rubber glove on and rub the inside of her ear. You will be amazed yo hear temporarily I have reverted back to medicine in food.

If her blood test is near normal next month at a set date she is going to have a Thyroidectomy and that will stop the need for this twice daily administration of medicine to an alert, intelligent cat. We (I!) cannot carry on as we are. At present, she appears not to like every cat food made for cats.

It is hard lins, there was a damp eye here earlier thinking about what we’ve missed and will miss. As I said to myself chin up, this won’t be forever. I’m so sorry your daughter has experienced such a sad loss Topsy, a warm hug for you all.

Pleased you feel better galen, hope you can get the test off quickly, less time to worry. Equally pleased your husband is comfortable now Doodle, those visiting restrictions are tough, hope discharge will come before Sunday.

Urms you posted on the GM thread did I know that our President has tested positive for Covid - I do know why he has tested positive : he can't stop hugging, standing far too close and shaking hands with people. Hopefully he won't be as ill as the UK Prime Minister was..... Sad about your messy Tiers, (or that's how it will end I feel ?). Doesn't seem to be any real logic to all the areas going up and down in numbers and not too many people having a clue as to what they are allowed to do. Not a lot by the sound of it.

Pleased that your DH sounds a bit more stable, Doodle. The pain will have knocked him flat, poor chap, but hopefully much improvement by the weekend.
