IPad Addiction

I remember my daughter giving me my first IPad and looking at it suspiciously. Now it seems attached to my hand, Particularly during lockdown.
I’m not sure if this is a good or bad thing as I could be getting on with more creative things, but a whole world resides there, kindle, Gransnet? photos, friends etc. etc. I have a love/hate relationship with it.
How do you feel about yours?

I am not attached to my I-Pad but to my computer ( desk type) I am on it for hours and I love it, it keeps me in touch with my friends who are spread about a bit, its a life saver in these times, when not at home I use my phone but the letters are a bit small and I have more difficulty using it,give me my lovely computer every day.

Yes. I do have a problem I’m currently watching a very good film but on my iPad at the same time. I need to start having iPad free days. I don’t even read books any more.

Hello fellow addicts, its wonderful to hear how many other Gransnetters spend hours on I-Pads phones etc.I cant imagine life without these fantastic devices.

During the pandemic it has become a lifeline. As 24hr carer and not able to mix freely it has been a lifeline. Plus audio books!

I’ve no iPad, but do have a desktop, a couple of tablets and an iPhone. The phone’s the one that gets constant use, the tablets come in handy for reading and the desktop’s gathering dust, apart from when I update my spreadsheets or am typing something hefty, when I find it easier to use a proper keyboard.

I used to keep a check on my screen time and try to keep it to some sort of limit, but that’s gone by the board since March.

I have an I pad but only use it to face time daughters and read library books, Can't get the hang of it or find my way around it , prefer a PC and keyboard.

I’m another who is surgically attached to her iPad! If I’m honest it’s become something of an addiction and I’m ashamed of the amount of time I spend on it, but it has been a godsend during this difficult year when time normally spent with friends and family has had to be written off.

I absolutely love mine. After years of use my first mini died (?) so I treated myself to a full size one so I can watch tv on it. I really love it but addicted to it It’s good for my diet though. I can be on it for hours and forget I’ve not eaten.

Can I ask for opinions please? I've been thinking of getting a new laptop as mine is ancient, but would an iPad be better?
Is there anything I couldn't do on it that I can do on a laptop?

I think you've got the message hollysteers: iPad.

My dog pulled my iPad off the table and I found it lying on the floor later that day. Thankfully it wasn’t damaged but, with me shielding at the moment it would be a disaster if I didn’t have one. I can’t access catchup on the tv either and don’t want to mess with the tv or call an engineer out so watch it on my iPad. Also use messenger to keep in touch with everyone.

I'm usually glued to mine but it's not working very well. Can't get a new one anywhere!

I absolutely hate the messages from the iPad police that keep popping up saying “you averaged six hours and forty four minutes of screen time a day last week!”

It depends what you use it for Henetha. It doesn’t have Flash so some Windows based websites won’t work on it.

I’m addicted to my iPad and so what? This is my 3rd one and I just love it. I was given my first one from my colleagues when I retired and it’s been a godsend for me while I was in hospital and now at home. I’m still learning about it. It can be so frustrating. I write in my daily diary and follow social media etc. I was given another one recently from my dh unfortunately I lost some things I had stored the man in the Apple shop said I had saved all and it’ll still be in the cloud. I’ve spent ages looking for the cloud however there were some things I was unable to retrieve angry I’ve managed to find my address book though thank goodness for that whew. It’s better than a sprawling newspaper and I can easily read the news with my one functional hand. smile

Thank you so much for responding, Blossoming.
Maybe a new laptop is best for me then.

Does it just need rebooting? Mine started playing up and someone showed me how to reboot it and it was fine afterwards.
