Morning from a calm S Lanarkshire, if it's not as cold as yesterday I'll do a couple of 'window visit's' today to friends who need some company, one who's recovering from a knee replacement and is still at the very painful stage and needs to offload!
Ashcombe, sorry your trip to your DH in France is not going to happen, you must be so disappointed, probably left you vulnerable to getting your cold. Your windows are lovely, being so creative is such a gift.
Glad to hear good news of Iris grandMattie, it must make you feel good to be able to help her recovery in such a practical way. Such talent in this group!
My 8 year old granddaughter and I have finished our joint reading of her Harry Potter book. That has been a great success and I am so happy to have that connection restored, I was really worried we would grow apart after nearly a year of no personal contact. I'm going to try one called ' The boy in the chair' next, about a refugee child joining a class in this country and trying to fit in.
Good wishes to everyone for the day..

Good Morning Friday
(66 Posts)Good Morning Everyone,
Its dark, and looks cold and damp here in Brackley .
Today, general shop either Brackley or Bicester as yet undecided .
I did not go to Bicester yesterday , staying in most of the day, as waited for my Parsley Box delivery, with a few Christmas food items in it , just to keep me going over the period .
I also chatted to my friend on the phone in the evening as I had sent her a card without he street address on ,she had just received it , we talked about things on the phone.
Take Care ,
Mick
Morning Mick, morning All from an overcast corner of Somerset.
Good news about Iris grandMattie, it must have made you smile to see how cheerful she looked. That’s sad news about your father in law Grammaretto, I’m so sorry.
Hope the painkillers help Scentia, chronic pain is debilitating physically and emotionally. Be careful with that delivery marydoll, it sounds bigger than you are.
Hope greyd and urms have positive GP experiences. You’re far more accepting of your damp hall than I would be kitty, hope there’s a solution soon.
Best stir, anyone else heard the expression ‘this won’t get the baby a new bonnet’? It was a favourite of my Mum, I always wondered if she had made it up.
Take care everyone, hope there is some brightness for us all.
Good morning Mick, what a good postie your friend has, morning everyone from a very grey South Lanarkshire.
You’re so talented grandMattie, I’m sure Iris will be. delighted with your handiwork. Love the window Ashcombe.
How annoying having your vases leaping out of the cupboard at you Beechnut, it’s never ones that you don’t like is it? travelsafar sometimes I wake up feeling wrecked, I hope you manage to have a restorative nap later on although that would make me feel worse. I have a much younger friend who regularly naps and DH has perfected the art. The world is divided into nappers and non nappers, sadly I’m a non.
Urmstongran it can’t hurt to see your GP, even if only to set your mind at rest.
Scentia, I like your expression ‘finding your smile’, I hope you do find it, I’ll look for mine too as I’d definitely lost it yesterday, for some reason I allowed myself to slide into a grey fog. Onwards and upwards today, tier 4 is no more and the local shops will be open so I’m hoping to get out to see if I can find a couple of little things for my DGC’s other grandparents who we usually see at Christmastime but probably won’t this year.
Hope everyone has the best day possible.
Good Morning. Another damp and murky morning .
Late today as like others I did sleep well.
It is DD2s birthday today, it a ‘big O’ but of course celebrations have been curtailed.
We will visit outside her house with gifts and a packed up cream tea. One of her gifts is a something that will surprise her. I hope she likes it. I will tell you tomorrow.
Hope you all find a ?today.
Good morning Mick and all from a wet S Welsh coast. I've been awake since 4am with aching joints, won't be doing much today. the tree decorating will have to wait.
Best wishes to those on this thread who are struggling for all sorts of reasons.
Stay safe.
Good morning from Morecambe Bay where outside looks most uninviting. Murky and damp. A quiet day today finishing off bits and bats. Maybe a walk if it dries up. I want to see what’s going on with our closed canal so I will peep through the barriers.
Take care and stay safe everyone ?
Just popped back to say how pleased I am that Iris is on the mend. You are a clever DGM grandMatte all that special sewing.
Morning Mick and all...upsetting to read of so many of you with pain.
Think that speeding towards this very strange Christmas is making everyone's troubles much worse!
Hope that Mellowyellow is okay...and of course *gillybob!?
Dark and heavy rain here yuk!
Tweaked my diet a week ago...constant bad tummy and fatigue..I eat lots of bread and wondered if that were the culprit..swapped to sourdough bread and cannot believe the difference, feel heaps better, eyes shiny, skin improved..tummy back to normal!
Got a 'nothing ' day today..unusually..so maybe do some serious housework..maybe haha!
Look after yourselves...?
Good morning from a very wet Essex by the sea.
Lovely news about Iris, I'm so pleased she has perked up ?.
I'm off to town this morning to pick up a trial pair of contacts, one eye distance, one eye close up. I will give it a go.
I had an unexpected facetime call with DGD2 yesterday, she had a questionnaire to fill in for Technology homework. It was lovely to see her smiling face and that of her two younger sisters.
DGD1 has her last day of school today as the school have decided to shut early as a teacher has Covid. They will distance learn next week.
Take care everyone, keep smiling and stay safe ??? xx
Sorry to hear that Urms. I hope you get some relief from it. I’m not in pain but I can imagine how miserable that would be.?
Good morning and it’s wet and dark here in Essex.
I had a great session at my art group yesterday . Only 6 of us and 2 teachers. It was a one off and we don’t know when we’ll be back, but it was lovely seeing old faces again.
Ashcombe your windows look such fun. Well done!
Scentia it certainly isn’t like you ! You’re usually ‘up and at em’ walking, cycling and always doing. Here’s hoping your meds will give you some relief, and of course you’re missing your little dog but DGS will brighten your day. ?
Granmattie brilliant news of little IRIS. Bless her heart ♥️
DH and I are also eating more than we should. Too much lovely food around and too much time in our hands ??. Roll on Spring when we can get out more and bring on the salads ??.
We had a Xmas card yesterday from An old friend. Just her name on it and a short message saying her husband had died from Covid this year. He was an old colleague of DH and he liked him very much. ?
Wishing you all a pleasant day ??
Good morning from damp Leicestershire.
I know it is damp because I take daily tablets which make my muscles ache and it is worse when it is damp.
The engineer sorted our Broadband out by reinstalling the old router! When I rang Sky to tell them she told me we were paying far too much and reduced our bill by £30 a month.
The plumber came and put our bathroom back together too. Good thing we have plenty of space!
So sorry to hear about your FiL Grammaretto. It is a sad time for you.
Wonderful news about Iris GrandMattie.
Hope you get your roof fixed soon kitty I hate water in the house and we seem to have had quite a bit of it recently. We still have another leak to find and sort out.
Good morning from North Yorkshire where it looks a bit grey and misty.
So pleased to hear such positive news from grandMattie. I am full of admiration for your sewing skills.
I am going food shopping this morning. DD2 is coming for the weekend so will be indulging in some foodie treats. Christmas tree decorating later.
Thinking of everyone who is struggling today.
Have a good day everyone. Stay safe.
Grammaretto, what sad news about your FIL. You have had such a difficult time recently. ?
Your poor MIL must be distraught and feeling helpless.
Urmston, I hope your GP will be able to sort you out.
Good morning everyone from South Manchester where it’s dark and raining. It’s the final day of our quarantine.
Greyduster I think I’m going to join you seeing my GP today. 4 weeks now with intermittent neck/jaw/earache. I kind of thought it had gone but if I’m honest I think the ibuprofen and paracetamol mask it. The GP did say last Wednesday if it had t cleared up by today she was happy to see me on my last day of quarantine.
I’m anxious. I keep persuading myself it’s getting better but we know our bodies don’t we? I shall have to bite the bullet and ring for that appointment.
Sorry to hear you’re low today Scentia I hope having your grandson over cheers you. Great news about Iris grandMattie what a difference a few days can make eh?
Hope Friday is kind to us all. Still missing our Friday Girl gillybob. So very sad you’re obviously in a bad place whatever the reason. Keep safe everyone that’s the main thing. x
Good morning everyone from north Kent. No idea what the weather is like as it is dark and I haven’t ventured out yet.
Good news about little Iris; the knicker factory is obviously working overtime!
Supposed to be having my hair cut today, but my hairdresser has been struck down with tonsillitis, so I shall have to embrace the shaggy and overgrown look for a few more days until she recovers and I can get another appointment.
Will be walking the streets later to deliver local Christmas cards so hopefully the weather will cooperate.
Hope you all have a good day with no flying vases or smashing pickle jars to cope with! Stay safe
Good morning from Shropshire.
A busy day ahead!Hairdressers for a cut and colour then looking after Henry and school pick up later for Matilda. Our days are all or nothing!
Lovely to hear such positive news about Iris.Love the trousers and knickers, you are very talented grandMattie.
Sorry you are feeling down Scentia, I hope the painkillers help and I am sure having your DGS to stay will help?
Cherry,I hope you had a better night and are feeling brighter today?
Sorry to hear your FIL has Covid symptoms Grammaretto.
Have a good day all and stay safe.
Good morning all from Derbyshire. I think it's stopped raining but I'll know for sure soon as I have to go out to give the horses their breakfast as soon as it gets light enough. My DD usually does this but it's her birthday today so she has been granted a day off!
A walk later this morning and then racing this afternoon.
So glad to hear Iris is feeling so much happier and great work grandMattie
for all with illness, pain, sadness and worry
Hope today turns into a good day.
Good morning Mick all from a relativly mild Glasgow, well it's mild for us! Its 6°C.
Mick, I'm so glad you had a chat with your friend, that was a pleasant surprise for you. What a clever postman she has!
Years ago, DD's friends used to set a challenge for our postman. Whenever they were on holiday, they would send postcards to her or me with oblique addresses. They would read something like this:
Wee Marydoll with the red hair, who talks too much
A teacher in xxxxxxx school in the town
Has a yellow car
Lives in a cul de sac
Name of town.
They never failed to reach us. Our postman said whenever one arrived in the local sorting office, the postmen all knew exactly who it was for. That's one of the many reasons, our postman will get a very good tip this year. He has an absolute star all through my shielding ⭐
Scentia, I'm so sorry to hear your arthritis is playing up. Chronic pain is so debilitating and it drags you down emotionally as well as physically. I do hope you get some relief ASAP.
I always mix you up with Sark, who along with Mellow Yellow and our dear * Gilly* seem to be missing.
I hope to see them back posting soon.
I can never remember the names of those who are unwell, but I do know Harrigran and Grandmabatty are not so good just now. Please forgive me if I have missed anyone out, I have brain fog just now. Another annoying symptom of RA. ?
I have an empty today, DH is golfing, but also have a huge Tesco order. As I have been struggling this week, DD and SIL are going to time bringing my up prescriptions with the delivery and put everything away. That is if they can find space!
I have saved a fortune on Clubcard prices, as many of the bottles of malt whisky have about £12 per bottle off. That is if they actually are in stock.
We do not have an alcohol problem, ?, but I have become very adept at doing my Christmas and birthday present shopping from an online supermarket. ?
My children and DH used to think I was mad buying next year's Christmas presents and Christmas cards in the January and summer sales, but they are eating their words now. ?
I have done most of my Christmas shopping in the airing cupboard and under the bed drawers!
Yesterday I got yet another shielding letter from the Chief Medical Officer, offering a chance to register for online priority delivery slots, if I didn't already have one. This seems strange, as I had thought there may be a light at the end of the tunnel. The letter also urges me to get out for exercise. I can hardly get up the stairs, let alone exercise just now. ?
Wishing you all the best day you can have. I'm off to wash my hair, I need to look good for the Tesco man! ?
Oh, forgot to mention Iris, how remiss with such brilliant news, children are so resilient, onwards and upwards.
Good morning all from a damp, but not raining S Hants. Scentia I hope your day improves. travelasafar sounds like you need a gentle day.
Window 11 on the advent calendar, our tree will go up on Sunday, normally the GC help with decorating it, not this year. I’ll start wrapping a multitude of presents next week, have to have the tree up first. The new blinds were fitted yesterday and the kitchen furniture is being delivered later today, that will be the kitchen completed, shame no one else can see it!
Wishing you all a gentle day with maybe the odd ?
Good morning from Malta where the weather is damp and 14°C at present. The high today is only a couple of degrees higher so we think it’s cold even though I have yet to put a heater on this winter.
So happy to hear your news of Iris grandMattie. You must feel relieved to have had a chat with her and see her so cheerful. I do admire your sewing skills, how wonderful to be able to do something so practical to help your little DGD.
Love your windows Ashcombe. Hope your cold gets better soon. I always think ‘just a cold’ can make you feel so miserable.
Sorry you had a lousy night, travelsafar, and Scentia I hope you feel better as the day goes on.
Thanks Beechnut.☺️
Hairdresser day for me today. I won’t be walking there though as it’s raining.
Buzz had his visit from the vet yesterday and the injection made him cry for a while as, apparently, it stings. Poor chap. I just hope it helps his itching. I’ve spent a small fortune on tests but nothing seems to help. He has allergies to meat and milk but I never give him any, so it’s a bit of a mystery.
Now the hardest part of the day, dragging myself out of my nice warm bed.?
Hope you all have the best day possible.☀️
beechnut I would trade your sand and marbles for the large full jar of Branston pickle that DH dropped in the kitchen yesterday! We had to wash the floor twice!
Oh, grandmattie, it’s wonderful to hear that Iris is doing so well and it must be very heartening for you and your DH. Tears of joy here!
