Pamela What makes you think Ehlana is a "she"?
Judging by all the effusive welcomes most have, but I'm hoping for another Grandad! tchgrin

Hello, Ehlana! We don’t have family in Australia (do have some friends there, though) but Dh and I visited your country last year and had a wonderful time in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. It was a fairly last minute decision to go but boy, am I glad we didn’t delay until this year.

Will we have to eat Scotch eggs along with our champagne onboard the Emirates flight?

LauraNorder Tue 15-Dec-20 12:38:55

It certainly would FannyC.

Callistemon Tue 15-Dec-20 12:09:28

Apology accepted Rufus

Ps do you have any beige chinos?
tchgrin

(I have btw)

FannyCornforth Tue 15-Dec-20 12:01:10

Laura - it would be good if Ehlana posted again on this thread!

Welcome Ehlana, news from far flung places is always welcome but especially from the antipodes where many of us have connections.
I grew up in Fiji but went to boarding school in Brisbane. Took my 11+ in England. Went to Uni in Brisbane, worked in Canberra for a time, back to Brisbane where two of our boys were born and finally returned to the UK late 70’s (homesick husband) and settled in Wales, three years in France but now back in Wales.
One son now in Perth and many old friends mainly in Queensland so I love to hear news of wonderful Australia. Apparently I still have a slight Aussie twang when I’m cross as in ‘go bite ya bum’. But also sometimes a bit of scouse having been born in Liverpool and lived there for my teenage years.
I hope you post often and send some of your lovely summer sunshine to us.

It's a small world these days. I joined Gransnet right at the beginning but emigrated to New Zealand over seven years ago to be with my daughter and grandchildren. A lot of the topics discussed on Gransnet are specifically British, not least because of the effects of and political approach to Covid 19, but there are many other posts, some light-hearted, some serious and global and some just games. Choose where you want to post and don't be afraid of making your opinion clear.

Welcome. Both my son and daughter live in Sydney.

Aldom Tue 15-Dec-20 06:17:32

Welcome. I also have family in Australia. NSW.

Ehlana Welcome! You followed in our footsteps (1971)!
Depends on whether you're M or F! If the former you're doubly welcome because we've lost a few Grandads lately and we need some new stock to re-build the herd!; but it will be a rocky road until you've worked out who's who! tchshock

If you're F then you're henceforth appointed Fashion Editor, but a word of caution!
Don't describe anything as "beige"! It gets them going! tchhmm
Btw; Where are you?
Good Health

That'll be a scrum then, to get on board! Will bring my umbrella and my sharp elbows?

If we are chartering a jet I have 2 questions;
Do we all pay the same?
Do we draw lots for 1st & business class?

It's free

Because it's virtual and only takes 5 minutes to get there

Situpstraight2 Mon 14-Dec-20 20:11:35

Go with Emirates, door to airport and back home chauffeur driven limo, seats that change to beds.
Stewards hovering to refill your glass with whatever, although Champagne was the most popular( common) full menu......... sigh.
Bliss.
Mine is booked.......

Jane10

Bags me in first class. I'd love to finally see what its like!

Sorry Jane didn’t see this. If we are going for the bagging seats method then my DH and I will join you in first.
I’m prepared to bring sandwiches to keep the cost down. I just want a comfy seat.
