I’m loving Petunias thread on frugality.
I’d love to hear what you will not scrimp on!
Mine is butter, it has to be a famous French brand.
Also I just adore cashmere, I buy 1 quality cashmere jumper a year.

For me its good shoes, Reiker or Gabor. I also buy the nicest bread. In Ireland its Brennans bread, and I insist on good tea too.

I have a few Mulberry handbags which I mainly bought when working. These days my every day luxury is my Ugg slippers, they are so warm, I’m on my third pair and wear them all year round.

Like *Missfoodlove I splurge on cashmere (bought a lovely pair of fingerless gloves this year), french unpasteurised butter, but scrimp on things like shower gel and purchase my candles from Aldi or Lidl. My other splurge are jumpers from Hush, but only ever on sale..

Two things I never scrimp on - quality fresh coffee and quality loo paper! I usually eat pretty well but that's because I seek out offers and buy from the reduced section. There are things I only ever buy when they are on offer, but then I stock up my cupboard or freezer.

I feel so sorry for people whose budget is so small that they can't take advantage of the offers as they can only afford to buy for their immediate needs. It means that their food purchases cost more overall. If I see a good offer eg BOGOF on something I don't use I sometimes buy for the foodbank.

Mulberry handbags.
Rado watches.
Molton Brown shower gel.
L'Occitane soap.
Clarins hand cream.
At least one bottle of Champagne a week.
The shower gels and soap are really long lasting so I suppose they are not so extravagant.

I’m allergic to Cashmere. I do have my eyebrows waxed and tinted every 6 weeks,

I have quite a few luxuries! My latest one for Christmas is my new Hotel Chocolat velevtiser ?. Also I have a teaspoon of brandy on my morning coffee every day during December with a small chocolate from my advent calender ?. Delicious!

When it come to first or business class travel, in fact even economy, Air New Zealand is far superior to Emirates. I have made many flights with both.

GrammarGrandma Thu 17-Dec-20 10:30:56

Real coffee and Chanel No. 5.

Esspee Thu 17-Dec-20 10:36:59

When it comes to luxuries mine are mainly food items. In the past, especially when I had 3 hungry men to feed, I had to go for value for money (but almost everything was cooked from scratch). Today if I fancy scallops or rib eye steak I buy them. I now buy avocados, mangos, figs etc. where in the past it would be apples and oranges.
To be honest old habits die hard and we eat really well for not very much money.

Coffee. I always have a pot of fresh coffee.

bongobil Thu 17-Dec-20 10:46:29

I have loved reading these! Mine I think is having my hair cut and coloured at a good hair salon, also nice candles.

rowanflower0 Thu 17-Dec-20 10:48:49

'Beautiful' perfume by Estee Lauder, good Riojas, by the case from Madrid, but buy duty free when I can; and wine via wowcher originally, and now get offers direct from San Jamon, so a mixture of frugality and luxury!

annsixty Thu 17-Dec-20 10:49:06

I am possibly the only person on GN who prefers weakish instant coffee to the real thing, so no extravagance for me there.
At this time of year a tot of rum in it goes down well.

Lucca Thu 17-Dec-20 10:53:45

I’ve gone off this thread.

JackyB Thu 17-Dec-20 10:55:21

Me too, Ann. I like the smell and the taste of "real" coffee, but it turns my stomach over to drink it.

I prefer something with lots of milk. In fact that might even be considered my indulgence: fresh, creamy milk.

Craftycat Thu 17-Dec-20 10:59:48

Tropic skin care products & good coffee.

PetitFromage Thu 17-Dec-20 11:13:59

Holidays, theatre, restaurants, perfume, good quality food and wine - not all possible at present, unfortunately.

PetitFromage Thu 17-Dec-20 11:16:17

annsixty - I share your coffee taste. I can see why many people may prefer 'real' coffee, but I find it is often too strong and bitter for me.

granjan66 Thu 17-Dec-20 11:22:10

I treat myself to a facial every three months

GrammaH Thu 17-Dec-20 11:47:43

Hair cut every 4 weeks,a new Kindle book whenever I want one, Jo Malone perfume, Nespresso coffee machine & the wonderful sheepskin slippers by Shepherd which several people have already mentioned. I bought some for DH last Christmas & wished I'd got a pair - now I have. I'm also a regular shopper in Bombshell's sales ....

Rosina Thu 17-Dec-20 11:51:57

Good food, ground coffee, constant supply of fresh fruit, pedicures and manicures, facials about twice a year, fresh flowers always, a good haircut regularly, and apart from these indulgences I am a canny shopper and rarely buy anything that isn't reduced or in a sale. I deeply resent paying the full price for anything, other than the above indulgences and I don't bother to check prices with those.

Rosina Thu 17-Dec-20 11:52:41

Oh - and beautiful scent, which I find relaxing to have around me!
