Quick return to extend a warm welcome to HeyHo this thread is so delightful and comforting, it sets me up for the day, thanks to all, especially*Mick*.

EllanVannin Thu 17-Dec-20 13:22:13

There's been a flurry of parcels so far and I need a loaf but daren't venture out just in case so it'll be a couple of poached eggs on two more crumpets. Ah well, they'll fill a hole.

Taichinan Thu 17-Dec-20 13:19:57

Just popped back for a mo. Urms my DD had a jigsaw made for me of her two DDs aged 2 and nearly 4. When I had completed I bought a jigsaw frame for it and it still has pride of place in my hallway. It was a joy to make and still brings me joy 13 years later. Your FiL will love his!

EllanVannin Thu 17-Dec-20 13:16:14

That was a corker wasn't it Urmston ? gringringrin

Lins, I'll know if I don't get one back grin

One of the recipients was born 10 days before me in the same maternity ward and her parents struck up a friendship with mine 80 years ago. Of course we called them aunty and uncle having known them all our lives and were as good as family.

Kartush Thu 17-Dec-20 13:04:40

Good evening from Australia, was a strange day today, thunder lightning and a deluge this morning then sun came out after lunch and it got hot enough to swim. Now it is 11.30pm and it feels like we are in a sauna, I suspect more rain is coming

Lins1066 Thu 17-Dec-20 11:40:12

Last of the cards go off today---in the hope that none of them have died oh EV you are priceless, I laughed out loud at that ?
Welcome to the GM thread HeyHo

CherryCezzy Thu 17-Dec-20 11:21:00

Good morning everyone from an exceedingly grey Gower, mild though.

I had a very vivid dream last night where my niece and me bumped into (two separate locations) two of my WP's old university friends ?. George and David if you're out there .... ? Dentist appointment for me this afternoon, can't come too soon, a blasted tooth has been giving me grief for weeks!

Please take care of yourselves today Bellasnana and Marydoll ?

If it's the footie game I'm thinking of Sar then the answer is your DH's team of course.... that goal was sublime ?

Beauregard ?

Love the trousers for Iris grandMattie and the dress and shorts for your GD Gelisajams. Lovely tree too Lins. Yes, the situation is pretty pants here in Wales.

? Grandmafrench, returns for yesterday ?

Welcome Heyho ?

Stay safe everyone and find one smile or laugh today.

Good Morning all from sunny Harrogate
Jax lovely kitchen, I'm envious!
Ashcombe I, too, prefer to get cash from machines inside banks. When they are not so busy, can get from the Post Office!
Grouse coming up - is it just me who finds the burden of Xmas squarely on my shoulders? I'm still wading my way through local cards, wrapping presents, baking Xmas things. DH has his job - examining whats on TV and what's on his PC!!! This is while doing normal housework and cooking.

Moan over!!

Keep well everyone!!

LauraNorder Thu 17-Dec-20 10:56:50

Good morning again, have now caught up on all the news. I did pop in to Soops kitchen yesterday GrandmaFrench but only lurked, all the cake seemed to have been eaten.
Hope you manage to catch your tail today.
Your sewing skills are impressive grandMattie and Gelisajams, the little dress and shorts are lovely.
Not sure which is worse Beechnut being yelled at by Mum or putting potato on lasagne! Odd dreams seem to be the norm for many at the moment.
GG13 and Sar53 I like the look of Santos offerings on Masterchef but Alex also would be a deserving winner.
I love your tree Lins, but sympathise that you’ll have to change your Christmas plans, better safe than sorry I suppose.
Stunning kitchen Jax, in time for Christmas too, excellent.
Sorry to hear about your nephew Bellasnana hope he gets better soon, it certainly is very real as Grammaretto says.
Good that you managed to get the litre of water down NanKate, no mean feat.
That’s the trouble with lofts as we get older Harrigran, at least you won’t have to dust and put it all away again. The cards are more important anyway cos they show that people care about us.
Marydoll you are so much fun, I visualise you jumping about and full of energy and yet your health doesn’t allow it. You talk about a severe angina attack as a bit of a scare, there is just no holding you back. Please take it easy.
Gingster I have recorded Portrait Arist and will binge watch on Saturday. So much talent, I love watching that and Landscape Artist too.
Baubles I read your post and actually went downstairs for a pen and paper. Now by the time I post there’ll be a dozen others. I suppose it’s difficult to chat to everyone so I won’t do it often. Also lost the pen and worried about ink on the duvet cover, eventually found it behind my ear.
Maw I too wondered at Micks pre build?
I see Urms is still picking the sprouts, better get them on that hob soon. The jigsaw sounds like a lovely idea.
Dwmxwg, yesterday Urms mentioned how difficult she found getting your name so I’m taking the liberty of explaining it the way you explained it when I questioned the scrabble board tactic you might have used. Daughter Wife Mother X Wife Gran. Hope that helps Urms.
Last but by no means least a big fat warm welcome to HeyHo.

Beauregard Thu 17-Dec-20 10:39:07

Good morning all from Derbyshire.

So late today as I had to go out earlier and didn't get chance to post before I went. I haven't read todays posts yet so will do that later.

All went smoothly yesterday. There was a particularly poignant moment when a recording of my brothers 14 year old DGS playing the Top Gear theme in his electric guitar was played. He is so talented. Bro loved anything to do with cars.

Thanks to everyone who sent me their support and kind words. It helped me so much yesterday.

I didn't do anything with the leftover flowers yesterday, as I fell asleep on the sofa instead, so will do that today.

Hope everyone has a good day today.

Taichinan Thu 17-Dec-20 10:36:21

Good morning all from a brightish Angus coast. Yesterday was so dark that the lights were on all day so anything is better. Today I am off down town again with last bits and bobs for Christmas and to make sure I have plenty of food in for when I come back and self-isolate after visiting DS. I'm feeling very guilty about going down to Lincolnshire but feel I must, for my own sanity. I'm driving to DD's and travelling with her. She has been nowhere (she works from home). I'm then being met and taken to his house by DS where there are no plans to do anything other than walk the dog in open countryside. When I get home I shall self-isolate for two weeks. I know, I'm trying to convince myself!
Grandmattie you are such a wonderful support for Iris and her family- they are so lucky to have you.
Sar I am loving MasterChef this time, but I want them all to win! I suppose young Alex is my favourite (but that may be because he looks so like my eldest DGS).
How wonderful to have that nativity tree decoration Lins - what wonderful family history it holds.
Love your new kitchen Jax - mine is white and black too, which I think always looks so neat and bright, but I love your tiles!
Sorry to hear about your nephew Bella (I didn't get back to read yesterday's posts). Is he at home or in hospital? Your mention of car insurance made me wonder what traffic is like in Malta these days. When we lived there 45 years ago it was pretty scary and scrapes and bumps were the order of the day!
Sorry to hear about your angina attack Marydoll - make sure you do take it easy today.
I'm going to have to stop here and read the rest of the posts later. I shall rush now and 'get things done' and hope to get out while the sun still shines - so lovely to see it. Have the best day you can everybody ???

Urmstongran Thu 17-Dec-20 10:34:47

and I was scared to use the hoover in case I missed him ooh EV that’s one helluva stellar excuse! I sit at your knee GrandMaster and learn.

EllanVannin Thu 17-Dec-20 10:22:30

Good Morning All x
Lovely and sunny so far which gives you the oomph to get things done. Slept the sleep of the just last night and woke at 10 to 8, a fab night.

Last of the cards to go off today---in the hope that none of them have died. These are school friends, past neighbours and one I trained at hospital with.

I'll be phoning D today about the Covid cases that were found on the Stena ferry to Belfast, which didn't leave from here. 6 of the cabin crew had been infected and another 15 somewhere. I'll be bothered about her calling, just in case. This is all getting on my nerves now as I want my Christmas food next week. Even if I'd had my vaccination I wouldn't be covered until after Christmas.

Ah well, I can make the mince pies today and get them out of the way. There'll be just me eating them but that won't be a problem. grin

Marydoll, I'm assuming that you have a Nitro-spray ? They do help if you have a spray before you know you're going to be stressed out . I do feel for you. x

I'm sitting tight for delayed deliveries and yesterday was listening out for one for my neighbour as she had to go out so left me the message. Needless to say nothing arrived after the company telling her it would be yesterday for delivery and I was scared to use the hoover in case I missed him.

Lovely trees and kitchens. The kitchen colour gave me an idea to tell D for when she has her big job done next year, it's lovely and her kitchen is massive so hopefully the end result will look as lovely. She's having a " middle " bit ( forgot what you call them )

Must get cracking seeing that I didn't hoover yesterday, so take care all and stay safe whatever you do. Thoughts to our Gilly and to those who aren't feeling up to scratch. xx

Urmstongran Thu 17-Dec-20 09:54:58

A huge welcome to you HeyHo! It’s always lovely to welcome newbies to this bestest thread of Mick’s. Enjoy your coffee with your daughter. Mum’s always have the best listening ears don’t they?

Btw you omitted to tell us the value of your ? (a la the Daily Mail). It’s very important piece of information.
?

brook2704 Thu 17-Dec-20 09:51:55

A very warm welcome HeyHo ? I hope you enjoy this wonderfully friendly thread and become a regular visitor!

Urmstongran Thu 17-Dec-20 09:43:11

I see President Macron has tested positive for Covid Grandmafrench.

MawBe Thu 17-Dec-20 09:42:36

Good morning all - a second go at waking up, frustrated by Hattie wanting out at 5.30 - too early to get up but too late to go back to sleep so I read for a bit, nodded off and now have a thick head!
Anyway, it is lovely and sunny, a huge improvement on yesterday’s rain so I will get out, deliver the last 3 village cards, return a couple of parcels via the Hermes drop off shop and then.....what?
Mick am I being obtuse, but please enlighten me , what is a “pre build” ? Racking my brains but feeling less than bright!
Too many interesting posts to comment on but wish you all a gentle day.

LauraNorder Thu 17-Dec-20 09:39:03

Woke up earlier than usual and came straight to the end for one of Pants Aberfalls gin and orange marmalade cocktail, I know, I’m shameless.
Oh yes, nearly forgot, good morning Mick and all from dry, calm Anglesey.
The auction for the house next door started yesterday evening and will close at 1.30 today, I’ll let you know how much it goes for Urms, and you’re right, I can pop in and out when I wake earlier and also join in at soops kitchen which does look jolly inviting with food and drink too.
Will now read the thread and pop back later.

HeyHo Thu 17-Dec-20 09:36:27

.....and the sun is shining here on the Devon/Somerset border. Himself has gone off for a little bike ride, hoping to be back before the bus to the nearby town. With his dementia - this could be doubtful! He is at the stage where he thinks he is fine, but everyone else knows he isn't........ makes for an interesting life.
Hopefully I will go out this morning for a coffee with my daughter, and another of our chats about her recent marriage breakdown -

But it's a lovely day, as I say, in these here hills. I noticed some crocus beginning to peep through the soil yesterday. and hopefully at some point today I will get to do some watercolour painting - teaching oneself is a little hazardous I am discovering.......

this is my first post on this thread hence the ramble!

Urmstongran Thu 17-Dec-20 09:24:32

Good morning everyone from South Manchester where it’s dry and seems mild at 11°C. Similar to Malta really Bellasnana but we won’t be going any higher I daresay!

Going out later (when I can peel myself away from this iPad - Himself calls it my arm extension cheeky bugger) for bit & bobs. The shops are just downstairs in the lift anyway! Pick up boots from the cobbler, nip into the post office, then into Boots Chemist to collect my stepfather’s Christmas present. Himself had the marvellous idea of ordering him a jigsaw on line made up from one of our digital photos. Brilliant! He’ll love it - it was taken about 5y ago of him and my mum at a celebration birthday in Spain. Lots of colour and happy memories for him as he puts it together. Not easy buying something for an 88y old man.

harrigran you know us lot as friends for starters and any birthday wishes would total around 60 before you even move out of your chair! Marydoll what can I say? No wonder you’ll be exhausted and anxious a bit. I do hope your angina has settled - rest up now please. Lins great tree and how amazing the puppy isn’t interested in it!

Right - time for my second cuppa. Himself is a bit slow this morning - you just can’t get the staff these days can you? I rang him on his mobile from my bed and he laughed when I said ‘is the kettle broken?’.
????

Hope Thursday is good to us all. Thinking of gillybob as ever this time of day. I know we all miss her very much. Wonder if Manchester will come down into T3 tonight? Hope so, it means we can eat out as booked restaurant dinner on Christmas Day. If not I’d better put these on a low light later today ....

Keep safe everyone that’s the main thing. x

Ps great you came over into soops last night corner. Anyone else ready to join us newbies?

Grandmabatty Thu 17-Dec-20 09:19:09

Popping back to send ? to Marydoll and ask her to do nothing today.

Mapleleaf Thu 17-Dec-20 09:05:56

That should say “you must be pleased that it is all finished in time for Christmas”. The gremlins are out to play ?.

Mapleleaf Thu 17-Dec-20 09:04:33

Good morning all,

Greyduster has our forecast spot on. It looks set to be a much brighter and drier day than yesterday.

Pilates class this morning - the last before Christmas. I must try to ensure I do some practice before class resumes again in January.

Pleased to report that I finished wrapping all the presents yesterday - I just had a couple that I was waiting to be delivered, so that’s a job done and dusted.

Another lovely tree today, Lins and a nice new kitchen jaxjacky. You must be p,eased that time t is all finished for Christmas.

Well, I must go and finish setting up for my class.
Take care ?

Susan56 Thu 17-Dec-20 09:02:17

Good morning from Shropshire.

The little terror Henry is on his way.The divine Miss M is coming too as school broke up yesterday. She says she is staying for seven days?

We will be using zoom tonight for the first time as M has online Rainbows.

Marydoll, please rest and take it easy today.

Lins, your tree is lovely and how fantastic to have an ornament with such a family history.I too was wondering what 1/9 would be in today’s money. The new rules in Wales mean there is no chance of us seeing DH’s parents, nearly a year now since we have seen them.

grandMattie, the trousers are lovely and the knickers are a work of art too.

Bellasnanna, I usually go on Compare the Meerkat for car insurance, then phone my current insurer to say I have a better deal and often they will match it.Have last years insurance certificate with you when you are filling out the forms as they ask for all sorts of information.Good luck!

Jax,I have kitchen envy!

Doodle, hope Mr D had a comfortable night and that you are able to see him today.

Have a good day all and stay safe.??
