Good morning Mick, morning all from S Lanarkshire where it’s a little drizzly but there’s no wind thankfully.

So glad to hear that Iris is doing well, she’s an inspiration.

Very good news about Gillybob, thank you for passing that on NanKate.

I’d also like to thank everyone who advised me to get Acyclovir to treat DH’s shingles. After assuring the call handler at NHS24 that his pain was associated with the rash on his chest and wasn’t in fact ‘chest pain’, he got a call from a doctor within an hour and an hour later was able to collect the medication from our local pharmacy. So very efficient.

I suspect many people are feeling rather down in the dumps after yesterday’s announcements, I’m sorry for anyone whose plans will have to change because of it. I keep telling myself that this too will pass.

Have the best day possible.

Good news about gilly. So glad that she is alright and might be back posting before too long. Thank you for letting us know, Nankate.
Lovely display, BlueSapphire.

Good morning all from a raining S Hants and boy did it rain in the night. Welcome Supernain. Young Iris is doing so well grandMattie a big relief for all.
As we’ve never watched Strictly, found a film, Knives Out last night, it was entertaining with an ‘ I know that person’ cast. We remain in tier 2, for now. We’ll have a concerted effort on wrapping today, my enthusiasm this year is somewhat diminished.
Have a gentle day all.

ginny Sun 20-Dec-20 08:22:42

Good Morning.
We too are now in tier 4. So some plans have to be changed.
Although all 3 of our DDs live within 20 mins of us, 2 of them are in tier 2. So now even ‘window’ visits cannot happen with them.
Not much else to say today, will be looking hard for a ?today. Hope you all find one.

Mapleleaf Sun 20-Dec-20 08:22:29

Good morning,

It's fine outside today and meant to brighten up later.

A quietish day in store, I think. I will check through my recipes for Christmas lunch to see what I need to buy veggie and fruit wise, then probably get them in on Tuesday.

DH put the new outdoor lights up yesterday, and they look very pretty. A little something to brighten the gloom.

Good news about Iris, grandMattie - she is doing so well.

Welcome back, Viridian, glad to know that you are alright.

Hello, Supernain. Welcome to the GM thread.

Birthday greetings to Mr Harrigran.

Take care everyone.

Nortsat Sun 20-Dec-20 08:20:06

Nankate thank you for the update on gilly ... great news.
Also nice to see Viridian back.

A beautiful festive display, BlueSapphire! ?⛄️??

cornergran Sun 20-Dec-20 08:18:23

Thanks nankate, good news about gilly.

fatgran57 Sun 20-Dec-20 08:13:24

Wonderful news re Gillybob !!! Hope she posts very soon.

BlueSapphire Sun 20-Dec-20 08:12:21

Good morning everyone from s dry Northampton, looks as though it will be a nice day.
Just a picture of my fireplace to show off the fairy lights that arrived from A****n yesterday. Being battery run they were super easy to set up. Got two sets, the other is on the little Christmas tree in the front porch.

Will ice the cakes today. But first will have a walk round to a friend to deliver her Christmas present. I will place her Christmas present on the doorstep, ring the bell and step back. Then she will do similar while we have a socially distanced chat. We have known each other since 1972, when we were colleagues at a local school. She and her late DH were godparents to DS. Then home where I have a chicken leg to roast.

No change in our tiers, still in Tier 2, as is DD, so hopefully our Christmas plans will still go ahead.

A safe and peaceful Sunday to all.

NanKate Sun 20-Dec-20 08:09:38

Good morning Mick and All.

I have GOODNEWS. Our own Gillybob is ok and hopefully will return to us. I managed to contact her and I received a lovely letter and Xmas card. She has been missing our GM thread so maybe she will pop up again soon. ??

Beauregard Sun 20-Dec-20 08:08:19

Good morning all from Derbyshire. Dry and clear sky at the moment.

Good to see you back Viridian. We've missed you. I looked at the photo before reading your post and thought the portrait in the background looked familiar (from a previous post?).

A bit of housework and tidying this morning. This afternoon we'll go a walk to see the girls and possibly pick some veg.

It's good to hear little Iris is making such great progress.

Hope everyone is feeling well today and Sunday is a good day.

brook2704 Sun 20-Dec-20 07:59:08

Welcome supernain ?

brook2704 Sun 20-Dec-20 07:56:53

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s still dark and cold but at least it’s not raining!
Welcome back Viridian we’ve missed you and love the new user name
A very Happy Birthday to *Mr Harrigran*???
Feeling so sorry for everyone with cancelled and disrupted Christmas plans, so disappointing for many people. All we can really do is to stay focused on the weeks ahead when I’m sure we’ll all find a way out of this eventually.
Some great news about Iris to lift everyone’s mood this morning, thank you grandMattie ?
Not much planned for me today, probably a local walk by the river in town which I always enjoy
Take care all whatever the day brings ?

Supernain Sun 20-Dec-20 07:54:53

Good morning Mick and all. First post on here but I’ve been reading this thread for some weeks now. So pleased with Iris’s progress and happy birthday Mr harrigran. I love hearing everyone’s news and such an upbeat thread.

Quiet day for me today. I will be attending Chapel (via zoom) this morning then a drive thru Carol Service this afternoon. I don’t drive so will be standing in one of the car park bays allocated to those without cars. Socially distanced needless to say.

Thoughts go to those struggling.

Ashcombe Sun 20-Dec-20 07:47:51

Good morning to you all from a dark, but dry Torbay.

It’s good to hear such positive news about Iris! It must be such a relief for you, grandMattie and all the family. The best Christmas present!

Unlike the government announcement yesterday which will have put the plans of many families into disarray. I can see it had to be done, but such a late decision makes it hard for many folk, not least because the last posting date has passed for any whose plans involve travelling a distance that could not be undertaken with the return on the same day!

It is puzzling to me how, in parts of London, schools were firmly refused permission to close early last week due to high nos. of cases but now the government recognises the seriousness of the situation by placing the city in a virtual lockdown, along with others now in Tier 4.

My DD2 put things in perspective during a phone call yesterday in which she said how tough it was for families in WW1 and WW2, not knowing if family members were alive at Christmas time. We are living through a war of a different kind.

I love the card, Nortsat, likening our PM to such an aptly named character from Dickens! We need such light relief!
Welcome back, Viridian. Great idea, pass the parcel!

Our amdram gathering at our theatre was a great success yesterday and this afternoon, I’m looking forward to a nearby Carol Service outside, accompanied by Torbay Brass Band, with a lesson read by our MP, Tory wet, Kevin Foster. (rain isn’t forecast!) ?

My heart goes out to those who are anxious about their health, loved ones, Christmas or any other concerns. This will pass, friends. ?

dragonfly46 Sun 20-Dec-20 07:45:46

Good morning from, as kitty said dark Leicestershire.

As my DD is now in Tier 4, despite having negative Covid tests they can no longer come up for Christmas. On the up side I could cancel all the food I had ordered on Ocado but on the down side I have spent a fortune arranging to send their presents. We are all pretty down about it and I am wondering if I will ever see any of them again!

Good to see you back Viridian

Lins1066 Sun 20-Dec-20 07:40:35

Good morning Mick and all from a dark S Welsh coast. Didn't sleep much and gosh there were heavy showers during the night. Went to M&S yesterday, my first visit since March, the staff were were good in directing people around. It wasn't as busy as I expected which was good. We are in a Level 4 lockdown in Wales as from midnight last night. The news yesterday was very sobering.
Good news about little Iris. Happy birthday to * Mr harrigran*.
An Asda delivery this afternoon. Have a pleasant day everyone, hope Cherry is ok across the bay from me.
Stay safe

Viridian Sun 20-Dec-20 07:36:05

Hello from a dark but dry south Cornwall. I'm the previous MellowYellow. Sorry I disappeared. There was a good reason but foolishly I unregistered before realising I then couldn't post pm's to explain. Duh. Anyway, here I am as my favourite oil paint colour, which is also the colour of the sea as its best. I missed this thread.

The pic is a giant pass-the-parcel I've made for Christmas Day with three of my family. It has a proper present between each layer. Fun. Today I'm meeting a friend for coffee and painting my bedroom ceiling. The best of days to you all.

kittylester Sun 20-Dec-20 07:32:00

Good morning all from a dark and cold North Leicestershire.

We are driving to Derby today to deliver Christmas presents for one set of dgc and 50th birthday presents for sil. We are in the same tier so are hoping we are not breaking any rules.

Roast pork for dinner.

Have the best day possible.

Bellasnana Sun 20-Dec-20 07:31:02

Happy birthday Mr Harrigran.??

Bellasnana Sun 20-Dec-20 07:30:09

Good morning from Malta where the weather isn’t doing much at present but thundery showers are forecast so we shall see. Still quite warm though at 19°C.

I’m just watching the news and seeing the new regulations being announced for the UK. How very disappointing for people who have to scrap their plans. This really has been the year from Hell.

DD3 came over on Friday and showed me that I have a lot of tv channels than I realised, not to mention series, movies and a whole host of things I had no idea I could watch! Too much choice really, but I shall try to find something to lift my spirits.

Thoughts with those of you who are not feeling well or have poorly family members and sorrows of one sort or another.

Lovely to hear Iris is doing so well. Onwards and upwards!

Take care and stay safe everyone.☀️

harrigran Sun 20-Dec-20 07:21:12

Good morning from the NE, don't know what the weather is doing but it doesn't sound windy.
It is DH's birthday and he has just opened his cards, lovely ones with photographs of the GDs on.
A quiet day for us with a Skype call from DD and probaly DS and family so they can talk to their Dad.
We will have a bottle of Champagne with our main meal.
Lovely to hear that Iris is progressing.

Nortsat Sun 20-Dec-20 07:08:13

Good morning Mick and the GM team from east London where it’s still dark.

I had a nice walk yesterday and will do so again today.
We have a grocery delivery this afternoon and I am zooming with a friend, who had to cancel her garden birthday party. I will wear something party related with sequins, for the call.

My partner has several Zoom students today, who will be having their last lesson before Christmas. One of his students sent him this great Christmas card.

We watched an interesting film last night, a true story about the black, American lawyer Thurgood Marshall and one of the legal cases he undertook. He was the first black American to serve on the Supreme Court. Well worth watching.

Hope all the GNs worried about unwell DHs have a decent day. Hope Cherry and Maryd both had a good night. Thinking of MellowYellow and gilly.

To everyone who is now in Tier4, let’s stay safe and well. ?

cornergran Sun 20-Dec-20 06:57:45

Morning Mick, morning All. Dark and dry in our corner of Somerset from what I can see, which isn’t much! Had a long for me beach walk yesterday in sunshine but goodness, what a cold wind. An indoor day ahead. Some sewing waiting for me, Mr C is battling yet another jigsaw that has him muttering. Silly me thought these things were enjoyable. Good news about Iris, thank you grandMattie. We’re also re-evaluating Christmas plans, it’s been a year of adjustments for sure. Take care everyone, stay safe. Special thoughts for all with worries of any kind.
