are we running out of things to discuss........

Someone asked is this 'what we are reduced too' referring to another person's post. I guess we are running out of things to discuss as none of us are going anywhere, all our social activities are no longer available so can't discuss the pros and cons of those, and we are relying on the news, family issues and the more mundane areas of life to put up posts. What do you think?? this is not a critisim just an observation. smile

My first tipple was cider when I was at uni. It was all I could afford. Wine wasn't heard of in those days.

trueblue22 hope you’ll post a pic of your art.

My favourite hot drinks, camomile, ginger or peppermint tea. Occasionally a mocha but mostly black coffee. First alcoholic drink in my teens was a babycham, now drink gin and tonic once a day, juniper berries are good for the skin! Flew to school when I was little. Lived in Fiji, school in Australia.

annsixty A double G&T, my favourite evening drink. Although as I'm in Tier 4 and the evenings long, the evening tipple is being brought forward to 5pm! Don't worry, I don't have any more after that double. I think it's habit rather than a craving.

I'm keeping well away from national issues and politics atm and concentrating on my art. Thankfully, I enrolled on a F/T Advanced Fine Art course this year, so that's keeping me busy and gets my mind in a good creative place.smilewinetchsmile

I’ve got a plastic Babycham somewhere. He used to stand behind the bar in the pub I lived in. Today’s task will be hunting him down.

Kitty did you have the glasses with a tiny hole near the stem from which the bubbles rose?
I still have a couple in the loft somewhere.
I might find them and put them on e-bay?

Has anyone else got the Advert “Just Talking Can Help”
at the top of the GN Forum? Big Brother is definitely watching us and noting what we talk about ? ? ?

Maggiemaybe Tue 22-Dec-20 10:33:34

Oh sorry, Ellianne, I was side-tracked there. I’m partial to a hot Bovril, particularly accompanied by a Jacobs cream cracker snapped in half so you can dunk it.

Ellianne Tue 22-Dec-20 10:33:09

I didn't walk to school. I used to catch the (London) bus. The trick was to go upstairs if the conductor were downstairs, and vice versa. Then to leap off without paying and spend the fare in the sweet shop!

Galaxy Tue 22-Dec-20 10:32:46

I cant drink cider, I got drunk on it as a teenager and ever since the smell of it makes me feel ill.

kittylester Tue 22-Dec-20 10:32:21

Ann, I drank gin anmd orange too - weren't we sophisticated. Also Babycham but only from the proper glass!
I also drank sherry!! shock

JenniferEccles Tue 22-Dec-20 10:30:03

Well you only have to pop over to the Politics thread to see that day after day something has happened to get one or two posters riled enough to start yet another thread on the same theme!

Boring? Most definitely !

Actually even a fairly trivial question, for instance if someone were to ask how far people walked to school, that could turn into an interesting read with posters reminiscing.

Ellianne Tue 22-Dec-20 10:28:06

Please posters, "get a grip", it is a discussion about favourite HOT drinks.
Though some of those you mention sound pretty hot, hot, hot!

Dorsetcupcake61 Tue 22-Dec-20 10:26:23

In my 20s,on the recommendation of an Aunt I used to drink barley wine with a shot of ginger wine in it! Not sure I could face it now! My Aunt was always a very cheerful lady?

Ellianne Tue 22-Dec-20 10:24:54

This is surreal. I have no idea what is being discussed here, but it is funny that this thread has allowed a little discussion about a deleted discussion when travelsafar was pointing out that we are running out of things to discuss!
And Luckygirl you missed off the antics of royalty from your list!

annsixty Tue 22-Dec-20 10:23:50

When I was young, and I will admit to drinking alcohol quite young, it seemed so sophisticated, I would drink Gin and orange which was concentrated orange cordial.
It cost about half a crown I think.
The thought now makes me cringe, however it didn’t do me much harm as I an now 83 and my favourite drink is still Gin but with a splash of tonic, lots of ice and two thin slices of lemon.

Dorsetcupcake61 Tue 22-Dec-20 10:23:24

I must admit I've noticed there seem to be fewer active threads. Maybe people are tired? Sometimes it can feel as though things go round in circles until it reaches a familiar stand off! There a many genuinely lovely and supportive threads on here, and some very entertaining ones such as the recent one about whether to open the toffees!
Are people less willing to post?
I too noticed a recent thread had been deleted as it was getting combative. I dont know how I feel about that to be honest. The impact of these very difficult times on individuals mental health and wellbeing is varied. Few of us may know other posters in real life. It's easy for an online discussion to go off track in a way that a real life one wouldnt.
As in life there are lovely kind people and those who are blunt and maybe unkind or come across that way.
For some the ability to take it on the chin,or walk away from a thread might be reduced by current circumstances. Maybe this also leads to a reluctance to post anything that may result in extra stress or upset.

Maggiemaybe Tue 22-Dec-20 10:22:36

Oh sorry, that should read cider and Cherry B - so much more sophisticated!

Maggiemaybe Tue 22-Dec-20 10:21:32

Did anyone else used to drink brandy and Cherry B, or was that just me and my BFF?

Maggiemaybe Tue 22-Dec-20 10:20:12

There’s plenty to discuss, but there’s not much point on here these days. If it’s not upsetting or irritating someone, it’s too boring for others. There should be space here for anyone and everything, but somehow it’s not working.

What this place needs is another Jingl resurrection!

glammanana Tue 22-Dec-20 10:15:47

Same here Galaxy I was half way through reading the thread and it disappeared tchhmm

Galaxy Tue 22-Dec-20 10:14:50

Honestly I thought it was a really good example of two people who disagreed coming to some sort of resolution ( I mean I would say that as I was one of them!)
I am drinking strawberry and mint tea for the hot drink people ?

Elegran Tue 22-Dec-20 10:14:11

So did I. Chewbacca, but I took so long over it that it was wasted. I had saved it too, because my internet connection has taken to failing unexpectedly. Maybe I can recycle it somewhere else.

Elegran Tue 22-Dec-20 10:11:27

Or our historic tastes in drinks. I drank Bacardi and coke at one time (not continously!) but I don't like it now.

Chewbacca Tue 22-Dec-20 10:10:08

I agree with you Galaxy! And I'd just written such an erudite response to one of your posts on that thread, only to have it zapped! grin
