are your recycling days fridays and Saturdays? a suggestion

Refuse collection regs and days seem to vary so much in different areas. Ours are on Tuesdays and we don't have special food remains bins.
Our council and workers are very obliging and even arrange a special collection day for refuse connected with religious festivals etc.

I have left my bins a month or more before putting them out, because they are only a third or half full.

Alternatively just go on your council website, find out when they are collecting and put it out then.
I cannot think of a single year in my entire life when the shed/garage/cellar did not have an extra black bag or three ready for collecting.
No great hardship

When we have a holiday the bins are collected a day later so no problem.

Our collection is a Friday, now moved to Monday so I fail to see the problem? We are used to fortnightly collections of paper and such recyclables so little difference.

Hear hear, Calendargirl. Not only flattening boxes, but squashing cans and plastic bottles flat. It annoys me to see them bulging out of bins! Also, I don't understand why people put metal lids back on jars and bottles when they could recycle them with tins! Signed, A Grumpy Old Woman.

There’s only DH and me, we never have overflowing bins of any kind.

I appreciate if you have a larger family it must be more difficult, but I think if people took a bit more time before binning items, e.g. flattening cardboard boxes etc. , they would find they had more room in their bins.

Our council collects on other days for areas with a collection on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day and January 2nd. Anyway, our recycling and residual waste is now collected every 3 weeks, and just the garden/food waste is still every 2 weeks.

I think it’s because Christmas Day is on a Friday this year, so some collections won’t happen. ?

Sorry infoman my nearest large supermarket with recycling bins is a 25 mile round trip, which as I’m trying to save the Planet doesn’t make sense.

We also have large recycling bins and a 2 weeks collection, so no probs, and if we over flow, we can use see through sacks to put on the top for collection.

Ours hangs about quite happily for 2 weeks all year round anyway , as do our wheelie bins.

I see where you’re coming from, but I’m afraid that wouldn’t be an option for me. Luckily our recycling bins are big enough to hold a few weeks of recycling, so we don’t have to keep it in the house ?
