Following on best films, who are your favourite comedians?

heard tim vine on radio this evening, radio 4 extra, so probably made a while ago.
i like him; no nastiness, witty and unpretentious.
i don't like most modern comics, many seem uncouth / cruel to me.
i loved the two ronnies, dave allen;
morecomb and wise have grown on me.

oh and the great jacky mason; i once fought almost to get in to the players' theatre to stand at the back and see him, well worth it.
his narration of trying to get a simple cup of coffee in one of these costa lotta places, where all the staff shout and talk in strange lingo, and you have to wander around looking for sugar, spoons etc. spot on.

Ronnie Barker is probably my favourite for his clever ‘play on words’ sketches.
I also loved Dave Allen for his wonderfully irreverent take on life.

A modern day comedian/comedienne?

I can’t think of one.

Has anyone mentioned Dylan Moran? Not sure how he is now, but his earlier standup, and, of course, Black Books, was genius.

Gold medals for outstanding but long gone:
Dave Allen, Ronnie Barker, Victoria Wood
Silver medal for Jasper Carrott.

Still around and outstanding:
Lee Mack, Ricky Gervais

I loved 'This Country' and thought Daisy May and Charlie very funny, but suspect they might be a one-trick pony.

'Not Going Out' with Lee Mack I could watch all day!

Just realised someone I forgot to put on my list....Chevy Chase. Brilliant and so talented.

we agree on something at last.
except a detail; i actually think dave allen was deeply reverent, and compassionate, but pomposity-bursting re organised religion. he died far too young, what a loss.
