Reading throught the threads this morning made me wonder if I should start a chatty thread, one that hopefully everyone could join in if they wished to do so.

As the Good Morningers know, after a lot of hassle with a blocked credit card, ( not me fault!), I bought a Santa lantern from Dobbies in their sale to replace one that I had, which had died.
When Santa arrived, he was leaning drunkenly against the glass, having had too much sherry on his rounds. There was no way I could fix it, as the unit was sealed.
I phoned Dobbies' customer service and got a very helpful young man, who mistakenly thought my name was Lady Marydoll I could visualise him bowing! I was going to wait to tell you all later that I have been given a seat in the House of Lords in the New Year's Honours list tchwink

We had a good laugh, when I tried to spell my email address using the phonetic alphabet, because I was hoarse and he was having difficulty with my Glasgow accent.

Anyway, I got a full refund without any hassle and the added bonus, I get to keep Santa!! tchgrin

That simple exchange has really cheered me up. It may have started out with a simple request for a refund I didn't need to even ask in the end, but it became a social interaction with someone other than my DH.
I love him dearly, but oh I do need some other company! I'm now waiting to waylay the postman for a chat!

We went to see the Blenheim light trail last night. All outside, walking around about 2 miles of the most spectacular light displays I have ever seen.

When we booked, we thought £21, was a bit pricy, but anything at Blenheim always is, but, in reality, it would have been a bargain at twice the price. As DD said 'The one bit of Christmas spendour in an otherwise pretty sh*tty time for all of us.

I have been really poorly with the dreaded Covid for well over a week. But do you know? Think I feel a little better this morning ? So very grateful ?

Sarahmob
Congratulations! You must be sooo relieved!
What a Christmas present...
How long did the result take if you don't mind me asking?

Sarahmob Thu 24-Dec-20 03:20:10

I’ve just had a negative result on my COVID test. It took ages for the result to come through but I’m so relieved by the result.

Welcome AliceinWoodland.

We had a lovely facetime visit with daughter and family showing us their new puppy! Such joy.

Last of the wrapping was done and under the tree. I am ready for our small Christmas now.

Cheers all.

Congratulations AliceinWonderland, once you have your second one I’m sure you’ll feel safer.
My wonderful happening today was a Skype call from Aussie son, he usually Skypes with the children who obviously get all our attention. They were out with their Mum so we had an hour long chat just him and us, it was so lovely.

My £10 lottery ticket tonight for the rollover draw yielded one three number line, and one two number line, and because it’s a rollover draw it’s worth £121 plus a free go. I only buy tickets about three times year, so was quite happy about that!

I was invited to come sit in my friend's broom cupboard!
We've been friends for over fifty years and have barely seen each other this year. Her birthday is Boxing Day and I so wanted to see her. Her 'cupboard' is an outside redundant lavatory, and as I sat squeezed up between a mop and bucket and her Dyson I couldn't have been happier.

Made a coffee cake which turned out beautifully. I have to hide it now as my other half would scoff it before Xmas.

Grany Wed 23-Dec-20 21:06:29

It was a join effort my DD and my GD adding finishing touches to home made Christmas cake. First poured a drizzle of whisky onto cake, then spread no sugar blueberry jam on top. Rolled out marzipan place on cake, roll out icing. DGD 33 months added the sprinkles on top she said "look the sprinkles match my dress" a pink princess dress look"look" they did ha. Pleased with the cake it came out well all looking forward to having a slice or two.

I’ve just rung some dear friends. They live in Bradford but are neighbours of ours at our little apartment in Malaga. He is 82y and was diagnosed with terminal cancer in September.

I welled up when I heard they were enjoying a sherry, sat by the fire watching television together. It really made my day. x

I got a text this morning from DD, in ICU after neurological surgery yesterday. It made me feel very relieved.

Hi Marydoll, agree some posts have been a bit harsh. Nice to be tolerant, it doesn’t mean you share another’s belief or viewpoint but you acknowledge their right to their belief.

Last minute shopping yesterday and today and really impressed with shop assistants. They have been friendly, upbeat and patient. Real heroes in my eyes all through the restrictions.

mimismo Wed 23-Dec-20 17:41:49

Lily pops, how lovely! tchsmile

Jaxjacky Wed 23-Dec-20 17:08:26

Marydoll firstly, thank you for starting this thread, it is uplifting. Secondly, Tesco rang asking if they could deliver early, no problem, good to feel that’s it, except no mince pies, DH quick village trip, he got them and a case of Guinness fell in his shopping! He deserves it.

Polly4t42 Wed 23-Dec-20 17:07:40

We look after our grandchildren part time and we wrapped up and went down to town this morning, sadly park too soggy but had a walk around not going in any shop but looking in the windows for baubles ( the one yr old can say that word and points to all baubles and lights smiles points and say the word) on the way back Alex age three helped me push the pushchair missing the puddles giggling and saying quick Nana we must win granddad home. Simple but some fresh air and excercise.

Hope you continue to improve daffydilly .This a very cheerful and positive thread it's cheered me up on very wet miserable day .

Willow500 Wed 23-Dec-20 16:41:46

I received a package from Funky Pigeon - inside was a personalised thank you card for me and Mr W from our GD with a box of chocolate squares spelling Thank You. She's recovering from Covid along with her partner so we had sent them a bit of cash to help out as they've had an horrendous year and have had to spend their wedding savings sad

I don't want to be greedy, but I have a few today.

1.My Tesco order arrived and only the biscuits for the cheese cake base were missing, but I can improvise.
2.I received someone’s turkey breast in my order, but manage to sort that. I couldn’t bear the thought of someone being stressed out at not receiving it.
3.Friend number one arrived with a lovely gift.
4.Friend number two had sneakily left a gift on my doorstep.
5.My difficult sister-in-law appeared with a beautiful bouquet of flowers for me.
6.My daughter arrived to put my Tesco order away and did a bit of housework.

My cup runneth over! smile

Kim19 Wed 23-Dec-20 16:30:14

And they are indeed lovely flowers. Thank you for sharing.

I have spoken with 21 unpaid carers today some of which are having a really tough time, however, everyone of them were cheerful and facing a Covid restricted Christmas without a single moan. Now that is what I call a positive day.

NotAGran55 Wed 23-Dec-20 15:59:53

My lovely sister in law (SEN) lives in a care home and the amazing staff are receiving their vaccinations ? today !

Also heard that we will able to do a garden visit with her on Christmas morning to deliver her gifts that silly Santa delivered to her mum and dad’s by mistake. They are sadly too infirm to visit her .

Kate1949 Wed 23-Dec-20 15:56:37

Daughter and son-in-law have just been to the door (distanced) to swap gifts. They gave us a large wicker hamper full of goodies. Unfortunately they have covered the top so I can't sneak a peek.

A lovely afternoon because I saw my dd and two grandchildren fir a short walk. It’s been a few weeks so was lovely to spend an hour together. Both on tier 4 so had to stay outdoors; thank goodness it wasn’t too cold and the rain held off.
It will be strange being on our own, a first for us, but these are strange times. My greetings to all. X
