Reading throught the threads this morning made me wonder if I should start a chatty thread, one that hopefully everyone could join in if they wished to do so.

As the Good Morningers know, after a lot of hassle with a blocked credit card, ( not me fault!), I bought a Santa lantern from Dobbies in their sale to replace one that I had, which had died.
When Santa arrived, he was leaning drunkenly against the glass, having had too much sherry on his rounds. There was no way I could fix it, as the unit was sealed.
I phoned Dobbies' customer service and got a very helpful young man, who mistakenly thought my name was Lady Marydoll I could visualise him bowing! I was going to wait to tell you all later that I have been given a seat in the House of Lords in the New Year's Honours list tchwink

We had a good laugh, when I tried to spell my email address using the phonetic alphabet, because I was hoarse and he was having difficulty with my Glasgow accent.

Anyway, I got a full refund without any hassle and the added bonus, I get to keep Santa!! tchgrin

That simple exchange has really cheered me up. It may have started out with a simple request for a refund I didn't need to even ask in the end, but it became a social interaction with someone other than my DH.
I love him dearly, but oh I do need some other company! I'm now waiting to waylay the postman for a chat!

Marydoll. With you about needing someone to chat to other than my DH whom I love very much. I have a seagull who lands in my garden and stares into my living room till I go out and throw some cat biscuits out for him. I had a jolly little chat with him this morning, but he just shreiked a bit. A couple of neighbourhood cats sometimes pop by for a little treat, so I have a wee cat chat with them. The neighbours must think I'm bonkers. And Bobbin the robin popped along for his suet treats first thing. Very cute. Nothing of great note has happened today yet, but the day is young. And in the current climate, a day when nothing bad happens is a good day and I count my blessings. Happy Christmas everyone.

I have just received the most gorgeous arrangement of flowers from a friend who has been shielding . I have been shopping for her during lockdown. What a lovely surprise.

I got a (reluctant) refund from an Ebay seller whose product was unfit for use. He was being difficult about it but my persistence and threat of Trading Standards paid off. Pleased to get it sorted before Christmas.

My son in Australia who is not good at keeping in touch messaged this morning to arrange a Christmas zoom with him, his partner and my two grandsons. I’m so happy!

This morning I got straight through to a receptionist at the Doctors surgery, without being told by a disembodied voice that I was number 18 in the queue. Surprise Delight ???

I ordered a turkey from my lovely butcher. Seeing on FB that the number of people I'm feeding has plummeted, he's turned it into a crown plus two cute little joints from the boned and rolled legs! Wonderful man. This without me asking!

Yes. I have washed my kitchen floor. Result! My cup runneth over. I realise this may seem mundane to many but I get my pleasures where I can and I am, ashamedly, the queen of procrastinators. I've also had a wee walk which was more for exercise than joy. I'm now mentally moving towards a bit of creative needlework involving turning a sheet into a curtain. Ugh! Onwards.......

I'd just come back from the emergency dentist feeling down, as very expensive and extensive work needed and a gap for Christmas.

I stopped at a remote little farm for eggs. I was met by their friendly border collie. Whilst I was waiting for them to collect more eggs, the dog came up to me with his stick, and looked expectantly at me, ears cocked. How could I resist. We both enjoyed the stick throwing game. He'd bring it back, then when I said drop, he did. They are such clever dogs. Thank goodness for animals.

Just had a message from Son-out-Law inviting me to look at the Winter edition of Dyslexia Voice Magazine. I duly 'looked' and discovered that the cover picture was created by 11 year old DGD, What a lovely surprise - no one had told her or us.

Granny 23, that's nice and such a lovely way for you to make the discovery. Well done your GC.

The cat curled himself up into a ball while sleeping outside this morning because he hates the hoover!

Being able to curl himself up again means that the nasty rat bite on his back is responding to the penicillan he is on.

I've chatted on the phone to 2 of my closest friends who live a long way away, made a Christmas cake- it's a chocolate cake mix with apricots, nuts & cherries in it - made mince pies & mince pie ice cream and now the dried fruit compote is simmering on the hob. I'm worn out now so lying on the sofa in front of the logburner, trying not to look at the rain.

Well Marydoll, I am one of those lurkers who read Gransnet daily and never comment., although I have learned so many interesting bits from you in the UK! I live in Alberta, Canada so am reading this Wednesday morning. The positive thing that happened to me yesterday was my 96-year old mother has agreed to leave her assisted living apt and come live with hubbie and me. She needs no care other than medication supervision. It means giving her our bedroom/sitting room/ensuite, but we have plenty of space. She has been unable to see anybody, not even go down to the dining room for meals, since September. That is no way for her to be living out her life. We are waiting for a stairlift to be installed as we are in a two-story townhouse, otherwise she'd be here for Christmas. As it is, it will be mid-January. She is thrilled and I feel so happy to be able to have her available to us, her other children, grandchildren and great granchildren. And my cats will be grateful for a stationary lap at last!

My niece had her baby Ollie, she had a booked caesarean yesterday and is going home this afternoon. Lovely to have some good news for a change. He’ll probably be at university by the time I get to meet him ???

Hi all - first time on here. I'm not a gran so not sure I qualify, even if I'm old enough. So, stepped on scales to find I've lost the stone of first lockdown weight but then discovered a huge Fortnum and Mason hamper from oldest daughter ( first Christmas without my daughters as they're in London- very sad) Weight off / weight on?
