Reading throught the threads this morning made me wonder if I should start a chatty thread, one that hopefully everyone could join in if they wished to do so.

As the Good Morningers know, after a lot of hassle with a blocked credit card, ( not me fault!), I bought a Santa lantern from Dobbies in their sale to replace one that I had, which had died.
When Santa arrived, he was leaning drunkenly against the glass, having had too much sherry on his rounds. There was no way I could fix it, as the unit was sealed.
I phoned Dobbies' customer service and got a very helpful young man, who mistakenly thought my name was Lady Marydoll I could visualise him bowing! I was going to wait to tell you all later that I have been given a seat in the House of Lords in the New Year's Honours list tchwink

We had a good laugh, when I tried to spell my email address using the phonetic alphabet, because I was hoarse and he was having difficulty with my Glasgow accent.

Anyway, I got a full refund without any hassle and the added bonus, I get to keep Santa!! tchgrin

That simple exchange has really cheered me up. It may have started out with a simple request for a refund I didn't need to even ask in the end, but it became a social interaction with someone other than my DH.
I love him dearly, but oh I do need some other company! I'm now waiting to waylay the postman for a chat!

I ordered a turkey from my lovely butcher. Seeing on FB that the number of people I'm feeding has plummeted, he's turned it into a crown plus two cute little joints from the boned and rolled legs! Wonderful man. This without me asking!

This morning I got straight through to a receptionist at the Doctors surgery, without being told by a disembodied voice that I was number 18 in the queue. Surprise Delight ???

My son in Australia who is not good at keeping in touch messaged this morning to arrange a Christmas zoom with him, his partner and my two grandsons. I’m so happy!

My GD2 (aged 4) has won the best Elf competition at Nursery!

I got a (reluctant) refund from an Ebay seller whose product was unfit for use. He was being difficult about it but my persistence and threat of Trading Standards paid off. Pleased to get it sorted before Christmas.

I have just received the most gorgeous arrangement of flowers from a friend who has been shielding . I have been shopping for her during lockdown. What a lovely surprise.

Marydoll. With you about needing someone to chat to other than my DH whom I love very much. I have a seagull who lands in my garden and stares into my living room till I go out and throw some cat biscuits out for him. I had a jolly little chat with him this morning, but he just shreiked a bit. A couple of neighbourhood cats sometimes pop by for a little treat, so I have a wee cat chat with them. The neighbours must think I'm bonkers. And Bobbin the robin popped along for his suet treats first thing. Very cute. Nothing of great note has happened today yet, but the day is young. And in the current climate, a day when nothing bad happens is a good day and I count my blessings. Happy Christmas everyone.

I will be on my own on Christmas day and last night got an email from my next door neighbours - a young family - offering to deliver a plate of Christmas dinner ( chicken and duck) to my door on Christmas day.
They've lived next door for about 8 years and we are on friendly terms but rarely see each other. Lockdowns have definitely encouraged that neighbourly feeling.
I declined their offer with gratitude - have stocked up on self indulgent food already!

I had a voice message this morning from my 8 year old granddaughter in Italy. She said she had a dream about me last night. I had gone to see them, and when she opened the door I had taken them two puppies! Such a shame it was just a dream☹️ but it was a lovely start to the day.

DD2 has just been round with some goodies for me to have a Christmas Eve trout and salad meal, which she knows I love.

And DD1 has sent me a ticket to hear Voces8 on London Live this evening as she knows they are a favourite of mine.

And DD3 has offered to tidy up and do viewings for me as my house sale has just fallen through (again!) and she wanted to find a way to help.

I am very very lucky indeed to be blessed with such lovely DDs and I am endlessly proud of them.

Just had a lovely quiet walk with my naughty fox terrier who normally has a bit of Argy bargy with an other dog when we are out and embarrasses me. This morning she was a good girl and I got home having not to apologise to someone for her behaviour.

My mother in law who is 89 stopped at the library to look at the notice
Board (they are closed for books). And lady came out and asked if she was ok and offered to go and get a couple of books for her . Mum said no it was ok but the lady took her card and looked up what she had previously borrowed on the computer and went and got her some books! How very kind - above and beyond and it was a lovely positive to my day indirectly!

I haven’t interacted with people for so long now (in real life) and recently decided to de-clutter.

I’ve used Olio and Trash Nothing to give away lots of decent things, many new, that I haven’t used, or no longer use.

I’ve had interaction online with lots of different people, and it’s been a pleasure to give away things that others can make use of.

Also nice opening the door to them (always far enough away with masks on,) or waving and chatting through the window.

Also handed a gift to my delivery lady and her son, which was much appreciated and made me feel good seeing their smiles.

Positive for me ??

Notinthemanual, thank you. That was my intention, I was thoroughly fed up with all the sniping on GN. Life is hard enough at the moment and I understand people are struggling. I just wanted to to start a thread where people could share good news.

I’ve just picked up our Christmas meat from the local farm - no hassle. And my lovely husband has dug up enough Jerusalem artichokes from the garden for two meals. My Bloody Mary jelly starters wouldn’t set though, so now we’re starting Christmas lunch with, er, Bloody Marys.

Notinthemanual Wed 23-Dec-20 10:37:21

Does reading this thread count? It's cheered me up no end. Thank you Mary Doll for starting it. I hope it runs and runs.

Doesn’t it make your day when someone is nice and helpful

Aepgirl Wed 23-Dec-20 10:27:12

As these posts were yesterday, I can say that it was my birthday and my daughter and son-in-law invited me for dinner. Suddenly my 9-year-old grandson appeared from the kitchen with a lovely birthday cake he had made for me. What a lovely surprise.

Daffydilly Wed 23-Dec-20 10:12:58

This may be to much info but here goes...

My positive is that this morning I had a proper poo.

On 14 December I had major surgery for bowel cancer and I'm happy to report that the plumbing seems to be working just fine.

Happy Christmas everyone. Xx

My brother in Canada says he will keep in touch with me every day over Christmas, so that is lovely.
I'm delivering gifts to my son's house today and will hover on the doorstep for five minutes.
All my shopping is done so today I will have time to make the mince pies etc.
And I'm still alive and kicking so that's a bonus at my age. smile

I went for a walk in Queens Park with my pash. Best thing that's happened in a week.

Yesterday I went into the centre to Marks. I wanted fruit veg salad. Thelocal shops where l live now are not as good or convenient as where l used to live and l do miss them. I was anxious but l needn't have worried because M& S have got things very organized. The shop was fairly busy but lots of choice no queues at the tills. My lovely brother-in-law popped round to collect empty boxes as they are hoping to move in the next few weeks. He left a gift from his daughter so l will have one present to unwrap.

Well, I work up and found my pulse, so I just knew it would be a good day. My grocery order arrived, everything was present and correct - I have taken the phone off the hook, will soon switch off the computer and Christmas for my husband and I will begin. Having a Zoom chat with AC over breakfast on Christmas morning. I am so fortunate but do feel for people who are less so. Merry Christmas.

Anrol Wed 23-Dec-20 09:53:27

Lovely surprise yesterday as AC had organised for DiL no 2 to leave presents in our porch & take theirs, and No1 son doing the same tomorrow. So happy as I have bought lots more gifts than normal for them all to make up for not seeing them so frequently this year. I know it’s no substitution for not being together but I hope now their xmas morning can be filled with a mad mega gift opening session. Joy.
