Congratulations Supergirlsnan and to the new parents, that must be the best thing today.
Vision Disturbances: "Aura" Without Headache?
Reading throught the threads this morning made me wonder if I should start a chatty thread, one that hopefully everyone could join in if they wished to do so.
As the Good Morningers know, after a lot of hassle with a blocked credit card, ( not me fault!), I bought a Santa lantern from Dobbies in their sale to replace one that I had, which had died.
When Santa arrived, he was leaning drunkenly against the glass, having had too much sherry on his rounds. There was no way I could fix it, as the unit was sealed.
I phoned Dobbies' customer service and got a very helpful young man, who mistakenly thought my name was Lady Marydoll I could visualise him bowing! I was going to wait to tell you all later that I have been given a seat in the House of Lords in the New Year's Honours list
We had a good laugh, when I tried to spell my email address using the phonetic alphabet, because I was hoarse and he was having difficulty with my Glasgow accent.
Anyway, I got a full refund without any hassle and the added bonus, I get to keep Santa!!
That simple exchange has really cheered me up. It may have started out with a simple request for a refund I didn't need to even ask in the end, but it became a social interaction with someone other than my DH.
I love him dearly, but oh I do need some other company! I'm now waiting to waylay the postman for a chat!
Congratulations Supergirlsnan and to the new parents, that must be the best thing today.
congratulations supergirlsnan! what is his name!
I had a new grandson today!
Just now, the Rotary Club Santa train just passed outside, I rushed to the front door and we exchanged (shouted) Merry Christmas, no collecting, obviously, online donations to the food bank. Sad as well because usually the GC’s would be here, my own children used to love it too. The first of our usual Christmas routines that won’t happen this year, but it made me smile, that little festive wave and exchange of greetings.
Wish I could magic you a plate over Marydoll it was good.
Sodapop, that would be my perfect last meal on earth, if I could pick.
I was going to say, apart from the wine, which I'm not allowed, but if it was my last meal, it wouldn't really matter anyway!!
I got an unexpected gift from a member of my WI group this morning. She just turned up with a lovely home made Christmas flower arrangement. I knew that she used to be a florist and is a very keen gardener but I was totally overwhelmed by her gift.
I am the President of my WI and it has been tough keeping everyone connected since our meetings stopped in March so it was lovely to know that she appreciated all I ( and the rest of the committee) have done.
Had a lovely walk around the fields and woods near DDs village, with DGD's and Labrador. Then popped to Mums for lunch. Then afterwards we went for an hours walk along the Staffordshire Railway Walk, which backs onto her house.
Had two friends round for lunch today, the meal went perfectly, salmon and prawns followed by raspberry creme brulee, copious amounts of wine. It was lovely to socialise again. Hopefully we won't go back into lock down after Christmas.
We were due to have our Christmas bubble, DD1, DSIL and children, for lunch tomorrow but aren’t allowed now, so met up instead for a bracing walk today. I made the beef bourgignon and lemon mousse a day early and we’ll all be eating it in our own homes tonight. And we had Christmas cake and cheese when we got in. I’m content.
MawBe and WOODMOUSE49 our Zoom group is a bit of a mixture really. There are some veterans of Burns lunches and StAndrews fish and chip lunches. Katek took the initiative and it grew from there. There are only potentially 8 of us but not everyone joins every week. Even with that number it can be too much as only one person can talk at a time so managing turn taking etc can be problematical at times.
However, I'm very glad of it and feel that we've talked through some big issues along with lots of chat and laughs. How about you setting a group up yourselves?
Lovely to read all these and a bit of positivity. I've just had a visit from my son and his gf so I'm happy.
I had a lovely call from my DS - he rings every day at the moment. Then I had a delivery from Sainsbury which had things on it I thought I had cancelled but the lovely driver took the stuff back I didn't want and refunded me.
This afternoon my DSiL rang me and then my parcels for DD were picked up. Hopefully they will arrive without mishap tomorrow.
Pleased your daughter is home safely Sar.
Very relieved when DD2 rang to say she was home from hospital after having a fairly large mole removed from her cheek. She was still very numb but glad it was all over. She sent a picture showing a large dressing which can come off tomorrow. Three year old granddaughter asked if she could see mummy's 'ouchie'.
I'm sure we will all feel even better when she gets the results of the biopsy.
We all worry about our children even when they are in their 40's.
How lovely to read of happy things today.

We just had our weekly Gransnet zoom meeting with a difference. It was a Christmas lunch. We all wore Christmas hats, had festive food (and drinks). There was a quiz. (I came last!) We had jokes and recitations - very special one from Elegran and a general good time was had by all. The nearest to a party we'll have this year.
I'd encourage other Grans to set up zoom groups. Best not be too large in size though.
Is this a Scottish Grans’ Zoom meeting (like for instance the Burns supper and Edinburgh lunches?) or a private group of friends, Jane10?
Oh yes, all but two of my awaited deliveries arrived at lunchtime making two more to go, though ironically the one I'm waiting for had stated " same day delivery "
. It's been a week ! Two days left yet is the way I'm looking at it although it is a main present, but what can you do ? Not a lot.

Have experienced the same feeling.
When I did a test drive on a Nissan, which I then decided to purhase, being seven years ago, I had commented to the enthusiastic sales person I did not want to fly, just drive it. I know I do not put to use all this gem of a car has to offer in making my journeys a pleasure and not just getting from A to B.
This morning we met DD, SIL and our two grandsons to do the Elf Trail at our local country park. It was good fun. Afterwards we collected our Christmas meat order from a butchers within a small shopping village. We had a takeaway lunch from the cafe there. Then when we got home DD arrived with a box of four huge doughnuts - the extra special ones decorated with icing, chocolates, marshmallows and biscuits etc. We've just had one with a coffee. Rest of the day on the sofa. Bliss!
I had a delivery of letterbox flowers today from my daughter and her family. They are lovely. I also had a bracing walk round the golf course in crisp frosty air. It lifted my spirits as I had been feeling a bit glum when I woke up this morning.
We have a 10 mile drive for our Tesco click and collect, mostly on narrow country lanes. I love being so close to the land. Today I saw roe deer and rabbits, partridges and pheasants ( lots of pheasants!). Finally, a hare ran across in front of me, giving me a good view. Also, one of the farmers has planted oak saplings in a row on both sides of the lane, which gave me such a feeling of hope for the future.
Such a feel good factor, after the dentist at 8.30am! ?
Yes my day has been successful/pleasant in various simple ways. First mail I read today was a short film of a little ones nativity play. Seems that one of the wise men thought she would like to like to give baby Jesus a cuddle and, when she removed him from the manger, 'Mary' wasn't too impressed and tried to intervene. Result was hilarious! I'm still smiling. Much lesser but nonetheless satisfying was a quick trip to my High Street where my shopping was speedy and successful. Not expected. Lastly, just had a delicious lunch which took me all of three minutes in the kitchen. Cannot leave without congratulating Anno on the weight loss success. Doesn't matter how far you have to go. Every little loss is good. Bravo you!
A ring of the doorbell this morning and there stood my son-in-law bringing a lovely bunch of flowers.
A trip to my son’s house to deliver presents and chat on the drive. I came away with a huge basket arrangement of Christmas plants.
Feeling blessed.

GN zoom groups.
Great idea Jane10. I'll put a feeler out.
Received a present I had ordered for my step DGD , didn't think it would arrive in time for Christmas . My son is coming to swap presents tomorrow so perfect timing.
Can I backtrack to yesterday?
My granddaughter's birthday. Difficult to think of a present for a 16 year old goth. I found a choker and card (thanks to Google and Etsy. I've impressed her
. The card is going on the wall in her bedroom.
Had a lovely text too and call from her. Great to hear her so happy. She's had a tough two years at school + mum and dad finally separated.
I should have seen them both (DD and granddaughter) this Christmas as usual but it's been postponed until safe to travel and stay with us.
