Learning all the time! Skipped “Chewsday” in favour of dining out with next-door neighbours. Dinky-di Aussies, Queenslanders in fact, and always interested with my tales of Gransnet. tchwink
Lovely meal with “Pigs in Blankets” as starters. Never heard of it, but simple and appetising.

Nothing much seems to have changed here on the virus scene. Strict State border controls will remain for NSW and many police and others will be working through the holidays manning them.

Weather cool and turning wet so not a pleasant “holiday” for testing and checking drivers’ licences.

Tier 4 is a grim reminder that Covid might be here to stay.
Our neice, Alison, is a hospital nurse in North Devon and has just returned to work after contracting Covid 19. She seemed like her old self when we spoke on the phone, about 1 hour!. Apart from feeling tired, not surprising when there are only 3 nurses in a 29 bed ward, she said “loss of taste” was a peculiar feeling and quite unpleasant.
I imagine she can still speak her mind at work; she had a bit to say about nurses’ pay rates, claiming that supermarket shelf-stackers can earn more.
Fortunately her menagerie “family” are well; Pop, her parrot ,still passes the time of day talking to Millie, her dog and Joe, her tortoise is oblivious to all the goings-on as he’s hibernating in the Vet’s special refrigeration unit along with 49 of his mates. tchgrin

Not long to the Big Day which will be same old same old! Very few cards; fewer each passing year! People must be afraid of them including envelopes and Alison said she’s not sending any, which is fair enough.

Interesting TV doco. on lighting Thames bridges in London, but I wasn’t able to see when all that occurred. Very complicated and expensive too, especially for the Rockefeller Foundation.
Followed by a detailed account of the development of New Scolland Yard. It’s absolutely amazing the differences between now and then.

“Longest Day” has just passed us by and we’ve scarcely seen more than 2 days on the trot that could be called summer. Evenings are consistently cool. so Doona here we come!

Hi Rufus, wet here, again, before we enter a very cold couple of days, still means the beer can be kept outside, saves on fridge space! Pleased to hear your niece is well recovered. Awaiting our shopping delivery, hope it’s got the important bits, like veg.
A quiet Christmas, family over for a couple of hours on the day, suitably distanced, fortunately the GC’s are old enough to understand. I expect you’ll be quiet too. Whatever escapades you have, I hope you have a pleasant enough time and Happy Christmas ??
Stay safe ??

Doona, Rufus, now that takes me back, although we didn't need them in Darwin, even though we had aircon in our bedrooms.
Learning the different Aussie words for things became important for me as I did relief teaching and the kids would howl if I got something wrong!
Glad you enjoyed your pigs in blankets, millions will be consumed on Christmas Day with the turkey.
We are moving up to Tier 3 on Boxing Day, not that it will make much difference to me. Biggest difference is that pubs and restaurants will close, but they are allowed to do takeaways.
Heard from my late DH's cousin in Queensland this morning. He lives in Port Douglas, and says they are free from the virus up there. Soon as we are able I will be booking my ticket!
Cheers and a Merry Christmas! winewinetchsmile
