Learning all the time! Skipped “Chewsday” in favour of dining out with next-door neighbours. Dinky-di Aussies, Queenslanders in fact, and always interested with my tales of Gransnet.
Lovely meal with “Pigs in Blankets” as starters. Never heard of it, but simple and appetising.
Nothing much seems to have changed here on the virus scene. Strict State border controls will remain for NSW and many police and others will be working through the holidays manning them.
Weather cool and turning wet so not a pleasant “holiday” for testing and checking drivers’ licences.
Tier 4 is a grim reminder that Covid might be here to stay.
Our neice, Alison, is a hospital nurse in North Devon and has just returned to work after contracting Covid 19. She seemed like her old self when we spoke on the phone, about 1 hour!. Apart from feeling tired, not surprising when there are only 3 nurses in a 29 bed ward, she said “loss of taste” was a peculiar feeling and quite unpleasant.
I imagine she can still speak her mind at work; she had a bit to say about nurses’ pay rates, claiming that supermarket shelf-stackers can earn more.
Fortunately her menagerie “family” are well; Pop, her parrot ,still passes the time of day talking to Millie, her dog and Joe, her tortoise is oblivious to all the goings-on as he’s hibernating in the Vet’s special refrigeration unit along with 49 of his mates.
Not long to the Big Day which will be same old same old! Very few cards; fewer each passing year! People must be afraid of them including envelopes and Alison said she’s not sending any, which is fair enough.
Interesting TV doco. on lighting Thames bridges in London, but I wasn’t able to see when all that occurred. Very complicated and expensive too, especially for the Rockefeller Foundation.
Followed by a detailed account of the development of New Scolland Yard. It’s absolutely amazing the differences between now and then.
“Longest Day” has just passed us by and we’ve scarcely seen more than 2 days on the trot that could be called summer. Evenings are consistently cool. so Doona here we come!
Good Health
