Elderly aunt cancelled her Covid vaccination

My aunt's fantastic neighbour who has helped her both happily and willingly with shopping etc throughout lockdown has just tested positive for the new variant and has an appalling cough. Do be extra careful everyone.

Thank you for your kind comments. It didn’t get quite as far as her eye but affected her ear and made her feel seasick so not a great time. She is feeling much better now and will turn up for her vaccination on the 5th.

PamelaJ1 I am sorry to read your Mum had shingles on her face - I hope she can protect her eyes with a sleep mask whilst she is in bed. My friend also had it on her face and got it in one eye too, from her pillow. I hope your Mum gets her appointment in January, it's such a worry with our vulnerable relatives.

PamelaJ1 - that's terrible about people not turning up. Although it's not limited as such, it's not something that can be stored for the next appointments sessions. Glad the staff were able to take them.

Thanks everyone, she is very fed up and doesn't want to speak for long on the phone, so I won't phone her again until Christmas Day. I don't know which 'waiting list' she's on, I'll ask, I hope it'll be at the end of the 80 year old clients. Luckily her neighbour is an angel and keeps an eye on her.

My mum has just had shingles on her face. She has been in a pretty bad way. She was offered an infection last week but explained the situation and now has an appointment in the first week of January.
We thought that was fantastic service.
A friend told me that 8 people didn’t turn up at the surgery for theirs so the staff had them instead. The vaccine is too precious to waste.

That happened to someone near me who postponed as she could not get to the vaccination point which is in the next town. Later the lady's son said he would get time off work to take her so she phoned the surgery and was told she would have to wait for the next vaccine delivery.

So how does it work if you cancel or don't show up at your appointment for the vaccine? How far back do you get put?

Tell her to try ringing the surgery when she feels better - she might be lucky and get someone else's cancelled appointment. Nothing to lose by trying, anyway!

I think you’ll find that the Isle of Wight is moving into Tier 3 on Boxing Day. I can imagine how worried you must be about your aunt but it sounds as if her GP agreed to her decision. Is she isolating to reduce her risk?
