For a minute I thought I was dead there! I checked my pulse but couldn’t find it. ? Then I realised I had my arm bent in an awkward way, restricting the blood flow. Normal now resumed and my pulse is 60. I’ve no idea if that’s good or bad.

lol. glad you're still with us smile

My resting heart rate is on the high side of normal at 90-95 and my BP is 120 / 80. I take a shedload of meds to keep the BP low and steady, it’s a long story so I won’t go into it here but a higher heart rate isn’t always a problem.

You need a new calculator, Esspeee!

What is your resting heart beat?

I think between 70 and 100 is normal but I could be wrong.

70’s or 80’s is good.

I thought this thread was going to be romantic stories and only looked for some light relief. Now I'm worried about my heart rate- there's a column on the side giving me links to Bradycardia, Atrial Fibrulation Symptoms, Tachycardia and lots of other stuff. I think I'm OK. Well I was when I started reading this. Now I need to take my pulse....

?

I thought the same, ah! A nice romantic thread.

Esspee don’t you have regular testings for hypertension?
I have had to take medication for it for over 20 years, so you are doing well if you don’t need it.
See your GP as soon as you can to put your mind at rest.

I think my lowish heart rate of about 49/50 (bradycardia) is probably 30 lower than my dh. I had a quick look at dr Google today as I do get out of breath when walking uphill, but am generally reasonably fit, I hope!

Your heart beats about 100,000 times in one day and about 35 million times in a year. During an average lifetime, the human heart will beat more than 2.5 billion times. Give a tennis ball a good, hard squeeze. You're using about the same amount of force your heart uses to pump blood out to the body.

Esspee, it's obvious that you are so very much in love.

Do you have anxiety? My heart rate is always faster than my DH's but his often sits just over 50, which is very slow. It might be nothing major but it's worth checking with the doctor. How fast is fast?

Is he on any heart medication that might make a difference?

Do you use the blood pressure machine after him? Some of them remember the readings of the previous user and this might affect the results.

I think you've got your calculations a bit wrong there! grin

There are only 1440 minutes in a day.

Luckygirl Tue 29-Dec-20 10:17:50

Maybe you should get this checked for your own peace of mind. Do you know what your heart rate is? (I can't do the maths on 16 million!). And is it beating in a regular pattern?

Esspee Tue 29-Dec-20 09:36:49

My OH was asked when having his Well Man appointment to take his blood pressure weekly. To encourage him I said I wanted to do the same. (It sounds less like nagging if I say we need to do something).
Today I noticed that my resting pulse is regularly 30 more than his.
I happened to have a calculator handy and worked out that every day my heart beats nearly 16 million more times than him! EVERY SINGLE DAY!
Please, can someone talk me down. How on earth can my heart be working so much harder than his?
