Sensible shoes are the preferred option!

After buying my 45 yr son a pair of expensive gloves for his bike riding I asked if he wanted me to put them on elastic so he didn't lose them! ? Something my Mum insisted on.

Oh, I forgot to say, I was 47 at the time!

MissAdventure Thu 31-Dec-20 01:40:34

My mum whispered loudly to me to ask if I wanted "a weewee" in a crowded doctors waiting room.
Everybody heard and sniggered.

sharon103 Thu 31-Dec-20 00:20:12

Before we were going on an outing our mum always used to say. go and have a wee, us, don't want one, mum, well go and try!

Yes, I said the same to mine.

MissAdventure Thu 31-Dec-20 00:15:09

If it was messy, my mum would say "It's like Wookie Hole in here!"

Gran16 Thu 31-Dec-20 00:04:18

Heaven forbid I am anything like my mother. I used to say to my dear old Dad "if I ever get like her shoot me please" his reply was "don't you worry I bloody will"!!

Nanna58 Wed 30-Dec-20 21:31:44

If shoes get left around the hall I hear myself say “ it’s like Freeman,Hardy, and Willis in here!”

Mumben Wed 30-Dec-20 21:25:22

I wish I knew what foibles my mum would have had at my age (almost 57), unfortunately she died aged 47. ?

Alioop Wed 30-Dec-20 19:53:47

Look how short her skirt is. She'll catch her death of cold

Gwyneth Wed 30-Dec-20 18:54:50

When I painted my nails as a teenager my dear Dad used to say ‘if God wanted you to have red nails you’d have been born with red nails’.

Hetty58 Wed 30-Dec-20 18:45:18

Blondiescot, you can push me off first!

Blondiescot Wed 30-Dec-20 18:42:24

With you on that one, Hetty58 - if I ever thought I was turning into my mother, I'd probably throw myself off the nearest high bridge!

Hetty58 Wed 30-Dec-20 18:17:52

I sometimes say (or think) one of the things she'd come out with. It makes me shiver with dread - that I could be anything like that wicked old bat.

Aepgirl Wed 30-Dec-20 18:13:54

I have for a long time thought that my eldest sister (sadly died 10 years ago) was my mother. I am even more convinced now because I am the spitting image of her when I look in the mirror.

ixion Wed 30-Dec-20 16:59:38

'That's not a dress, it's a pelmet!"!

Greciangirl Wed 30-Dec-20 16:54:32

She’s all fur coat and no knickers.!

Madwoman11 Wed 30-Dec-20 16:22:21

Has not gas, although now I think of it lol !

Madwoman11 Wed 30-Dec-20 16:21:09

Oh dear go on then ( head down) I hate to admit that I have become quite prudish blush
Yep just like my mum. Weird I never used to be, but I suppose that is just one thing aging gas done to me.
Not sure if it's good or bad, but eh it's little old me smile

gagsy Wed 30-Dec-20 14:37:07

I do sometimes see my mum in the mirror and come out with her wise sayings, but I don’t think I’ll ever match up to her as a person - kind, appreciative, stoical, courageous and funny - she was wonderful and missed every day.

Sleepygran Wed 30-Dec-20 14:13:52

When I look in the mirror. My mum looked like the queen, but died at 74 unlike the queen, but at least I know how Ill look if I live to be older than my mum!

Joesoap Wed 30-Dec-20 14:00:33

I had a lovely Mum and still miss her some of her sayings, as others have written stay with me, such as "were you born in a barn, shut the door".
"Its like Blackpool illuminations in here, switch the lights off" My Brother and I called her "the voice" because when she was angry she would raise her voice, and that was enough, she knew what we called her, we had many laughs about it.I do miss "the voice"

SueEH Wed 30-Dec-20 13:58:04

I have always tried consciously not to echo my mum as some things she said to me as a child are hurtful to me even now. So imagine my horror about 20 years ago when my twin daughters were playing with their dolls and I heard one doll “say” to the other “Am I talking Chinese??”

Nannee49 Wed 30-Dec-20 13:21:22

Not only do I find myself offering ma's sage 'advice' my voice is turning into hers! As are her hand gestures, posture and ailments - the power of genes eh? But she did live to the ripe old age of 93 and everybody in her sheltered accommodation loved her so there are blessings in turning into Mumthanks
