again, showing the way.

Nigel?

Elegran one word. Havers!

Elegran Wed 06-Jan-21 15:29:19

She was acting on Scottish-based decisions before BJ even got round to any decisions, right from the start, when BJ was still not even pretending to consult with leaders of Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Now that there are (in theory at least) four-way consultations, she seems quicker at organising updates than Westminster is. There is nothing to stop them getting the updated decision out earlier in the day. They don't have to leave it until the media have got their guesses in.

Its really not compulsory to watch or listen to her ,must be some sort of perverse pleasure.I dont watch Boris, anything he says isn't relevant to Scotland so its just a waste of time.A bit like the man himself !

Galaxy

God nobody gets bored of the Jimmy frankie thing do they.

No they think they are hilarious every time.

It’s all about oneupmanship with Nichola Sturgeon. She might like the sound of her own voice but I know where the off switch is!. I wish she didn’t keep on bobbing her head up and down the way she does.

How do you know it’s about oneopmanship?

I rather think Nicola has jumped in first even if things have been agreed collectively. It certainly feels like a Boris upstaging every time she does it. I suspect it adds to her popularity though I do know some Scots who don't like it, who just regard it as silly oneupmanship.

Callistemon Wed 06-Jan-21 13:53:03

Well, I understood that all the leaders had a discussion to agree a strategy before making their latest announcements, so I don't know how Ms Sturgeon is again, showing the way unless she just jumped in first to give her speech.

Actually, has biba been back?
On another thread she said that she had got Covid so I hope she is all right.

MawBe Wed 06-Jan-21 13:36:40

I cannot tell a lie - my first thought on seeing the thread title was that it must be ironic!
As OP has not gone into any detail as to why or to what extent she thinks NS is brilliant, it does not really invite much in the way of discussion

She can't help resembling Wee Jimmy Krankie, no more than I can't help waiting for her to shout out 'Fandabbydozy with thumbs up.

grin grin

Kalu Wed 06-Jan-21 13:13:13

As an avid reader Galaxy, I garner information from factual reports I read alongside those reports I listen to. Just my preference for a wider experience.

Sarnia Wed 06-Jan-21 13:00:03

I think Nicola Sturgeon has come into her own during the pandemic. She doesn't cling to Boris's coat tails and is very clear about her rules and guidelines. She can't help resembling Wee Jimmy Krankie, no more than I can't help waiting for her to shout out 'Fandabbydozy with thumbs up.

Elegran Wed 06-Jan-21 12:46:38

I sometimes wonder whether those who can't stand Nicola's accent have tuned in to one of Jane Godley's versions by mistake. Jane's accent in those is very broad (and her vocabulary too)

Baggs Wed 06-Jan-21 11:15:33

I listen to Janey Godley's speakovers of FM announcements. That way you get to laugh (JG is sympathetic to FM so it's not snide laughter) as well as take in the pertinence of the message.

Elegran Wed 06-Jan-21 10:58:31

There are transcriptions of all of Wee Nicola's updates in the media, for those who don't like to listen to her accent and delivery, just as there are transcriptions of Big Boris's. That way it is possible to concentrate on the meat without being sidetracked by a dislike of the presentation.

Galaxy Wed 06-Jan-21 10:08:26

That must make for a very narrow experience though. I listen to people who drive me to distraction ( due to the content)

Kalu Wed 06-Jan-21 10:05:57

Fair enough lemongrove. Personally, I tend to avoid such circumstances completely. ?

lemongrove Wed 06-Jan-21 09:28:12

I think the posters who don’t like listening to a certain accent or voice or delivery probably don’t very often Kalu or as less as they can possibly manage it.?

Kalu Wed 06-Jan-21 09:23:04

For those who don’t like anyone’s accent, voice or manner of delivery. Why would you bother listening to this person if you find them so distasteful ?

lemongrove Wed 06-Jan-21 09:11:11

Oldbat1

lemongrove Johnson unfortunately so desperately wanted to be Prime Minister. He obviously couldn’t foresee Covid but I for one am not sympathetic towards him. As for accents I can’t bare listening to the man. He can’t speak in a fluent manner and his delivery of the spoken word is disastrous. He never answers questions. I could go on ...........

Then do go on ?
Why are you telling me this oldbat ? Address it to the whole of GN.
His accent (English, Southern) doesn’t bother me but he can’t usually ( now and then he’s not too bad) speak clearly and fluently dealing with one point at a time.He goes off at a tangent, adds random thoughts etc.He isn’t a good speaker.

Elegran I doubt anyone on here expects Sturgeon to have anything but a Scottish accent since she is Scottish, but it’s her voice and manner of delivery that many don’t like.
To not like it isn’t a hanging offence. Neither is it necessarily
Politically motivated.

Lucca yes, it’s an odd thread title isn’t it, it sounds almost sarcastic.

Kalu Wed 06-Jan-21 09:07:12

I read Trump had ordered a plane to be on standby for 19th Jan; destination, Scotland.

Pompous as ever, I’m sure it didn’t cross his mind that anyone would have the audacity to have objections to his plan, especially the First Minister of Scotland and a female to boot!
Well done Nicola Sturgeon.

Lucca Wed 06-Jan-21 08:08:35

Oh and mine! He cannot be serious ?

MawBe Wed 06-Jan-21 07:41:07

Now if she can stop this NS will earn my unqualified admiration ??

President Donald Trump, has been warned by Scotland’s First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, not to travel to the country amid reports he may be planning a golfing trip to avoid the inauguration of president-elect Joe Biden
