Never will I ever.………. Get into bed again without first looking under the pillows and pulling the quilt back completely!! I was just getting into bed tonight when as I pulled the quilt down to get in a bloody great spider came galloping up the bed and went past the pillows and disappeared down the back of the headboard!!.........??

My sympathies. I remember coming back from a holiday, lifting up the pillow to find the nightie I had left there before going away, and seeing it covered in mouse droppings!!!!

I learned a lesson about checking my wellies before putting my foot in when I felt what seemed like a wet balled up sock only to find a large toad having a quiet nap, made me jump I can tell you.

Septimia Tue 05-Jan-21 13:21:31

Oh gosh! I often worry about that as we seem to breed massive spiders here.

Mind you, it was worse when the cat brought a live mouse in, dropped it in the bedroom, and we could hear it pushing its way past the pillows behind our heads.

Toad in a wellie would have traumatised me.

Years ago one of my cats had dropped a dead rat in my handbag, luckily saw it before I grabbed hold.

GillT57 Tue 05-Jan-21 14:25:49

Oh how traumatic! DH wellies have been sitting outside in the porch for sometime and he doesn't fancy looking in and checking just in case something has taken up residence.

cathymum Tue 05-Jan-21 19:25:06

I'm glad I got the toad and not the rat?

Shina What on earth!! I thought the perishers had moved out until the autumn. Just think ...... only 8 - 9 months until spider time. Urgh11 Having a G&T to calm both of us.

I got a toad in the boot too, threw the boot across the room and a poor, rather dizzy toad ambled out.

Funny you should say this OP, as when changing the sheets last week, I pulled off the duvet, and there at the bottom, where my feet had been was a good sized spider. It had obviously spent the night there warm and cosy.Since then, when making the bed, I have lifted and shaken the duvet !

On a Gite holiday in France we got used to the large beetles,
but on the day we were leaving I stripped the bed - and a large centipede had been slumbering with us under the bottom sheet covering the mattress.

I had a really restless night last week . Woke suddenly several times overnight and sat up for no particular reason.

When I got out of bed there was a large, dead very flat spider at shoulder level on the bed. I’m trying to erase from my mind that it might have crawled over my face a few times before I finally lay on it!

Jaxjacky Tue 05-Jan-21 20:19:03

There’ll be a few of us checking tonight!

Grandmabatty Tue 05-Jan-21 20:27:16

Well, I really wish I hadn't read this! Bed check tonight.

My poor daughter was beside herself this morning as a mouse joined her in the kitchen as she making breakfast. She’s lived in the house 17 yrs and never seen a mouse before so she was shocked to say the least. She’s going to get some humane traps.

Spiders are so sneaky appearing when we least expect them ?

farview Tue 05-Jan-21 21:45:30

B****y h**l..wish hadn't read this..it isnt s****r season!!!.

I'd rather find a spider in the bed than cockroaches. I woke up after the first night in a rented apartment in Spain to find squashed cockroaches around/under me. ?

Urmstongran Tue 05-Jan-21 22:05:24

Oh god. I’ve read these and can’t unread them.

MissAdventure Tue 05-Jan-21 22:13:56

I find myself drawn to reading these things, then I'm uneasy all evening.

I really, really do not like spiders. All those legs!!!

Urmstongran Tue 05-Jan-21 22:16:12

In one MissA I carried one reading ... why??

Urmstongran Tue 05-Jan-21 22:17:43

And, I’m back! (For more?)
Not looking again ... it’s nearly my bedtime after all.

Several years ago whilst on holiday in Florida a large cockroach dropped from the ceiling above me and down the top I was wearing. Instinctively I jumped to my feet screaming, ripped my top off and stood in the middle of the hotel bar with just my bra on.

MissAdventure Tue 05-Jan-21 22:28:04

I tried the old paper and glass technique on a big spider once.
The spider started jumping around in the glass, and I then realised I couldn't open the door as I didn't have a free hand...
I had to concentrate on opening the door with my elbow, whilst not allowing a gap for jumping Jack flash to escape.

I literally had sweat pouring into my eyes as I kept trying to open the door. Horrible!!!

SkyBird Tue 05-Jan-21 22:40:07

Two cats. Mediterranean setting. I have stopped counting the live wildlife that I have found scattered about the house. Including a handful of geckos, cockroaches, bats, birds and cicadas. They are always alive and really difficult to catch. One gecko was never found. We have jumping spiders which can give a very nasty nip. We have a gecko that lives permanently in our roof garden. They are your best friend eating unwanted bugs.

Exactlt this[spider] happened to me a few weeks ago,
Pulled back the duvet to get into ned and a very large spider crept out
The night after , one was actually sat on my pillow
I always check the ceiling as usually if any I see one up there
I always check my bed now before getting in
Spiders on the ceiling I hoover up,and stuff tissue in the pipe, until I can get downstairs and let it out
