So, are you taking your decorations down today?

Or tomorrow?
English Heritage are suggesting we leave them up until Candlemas on February 2nd.
Candlemas is the traditional end of the Christmas season. Well who knew?
That’s it then in our house. We have now stopped debating if 12th night is today or tomorrow ( tomorrow IMO) and we are going for Feb.
It’s really strange, I am usually itching to get them down but not this year.

M0nica Truly hope you both have a very special few days of 'Christmas' and his health carries on improving.

Decs are now down apart from lights outside and one in the hall window. Christmas is reboxed and waiting to be put back in the garage until next year. Had fun this afternoon getting ornaments back out and deciding what was going where.

Thank you

Oh dear, he has been in the wars!
Lots of TLC will be called for, I hope you keep well, it can be difficult when you are being totally relied on.
You know that cliché about your own oxygen mask, don’t you?
Get plenty of rest and take advantage of any and every offer of help! flowers

He is still very weak. Triple by pass surgery then three more ops to deal with an infection in the wound and lung problems as well, has pretty well knocked the stuffing out of him. He probably should have been in a bit longer, but the current emergency means they are getting everyone they can out, pdq.

The ward he was in was all single rooms and this had been divided in two at the fire doors, which were locked, bolted, taped and with hazard warning notices and being used for COVID patients. This was a bit too close for comfort for us both, so I am glad he is home.

I always feel so sorry for the Wise Men.
They wait patiently, possibly inching their way along the mantelpiece until it’s time to appear at the stable -and if they could talk it would be like “What the **, she’s got the box out ready to pack us all away already?”

So glad to hear he is home M0nica and hopefully restored to health - let the Christmas festivities commence!

No. DH spent Christmas in hospital, but came home yesterday. I have taken down the outside lights but everything inside stays until the weekend.

This morning he opened his stocking and tomorrow he may feel well enough to open his presents. At the weekend we hope he will feel up to a turkey dinner.

I started taking mine down yesterday but wasn't very well so didn't start until afternoon. I've taken the tree down this morning and had a good clean so everything is back to normal. I have put out candles, fairy lights around a couple of flower arrangements and lots of lamps - Candlemas is a good excuse to have them - not sure what it is the rest of the year smile

Cabbie21 Tue 05-Jan-21 15:42:39

I took mine down yesterday as I knew I would not have time today as I have been doing voluntary work. I managed to clean half the living room, must do the other half tomorrow, then the hall and porch, where cards are still up.

Ours were done on Saturday, tree is out to be collected by garden bin collection on Thursday, but have kept the outside lights up.

I'm very familiar with the Devonshire minute, Callistemon

Introduced to me by my MIL, henetha
I thought it meant literally a minute when I first moved to Devon - ie I'll do that next. grin

The decorations are down and packed away as but why won't the boxes of tree ornaments fit back into the big plastic box they came out of?
There is an art to packing Christmas decorations.

SuzannahM Tue 05-Jan-21 15:18:35

The front door has been cleared of wreath and garland. Tree is down and packed away, as are the tree decorations and a few other bits and pieces. The hall has been cleared.

The windowsill and mantle piece are still covered in greenery, flowers, lights and (fake) candles. They will disappear tomorrow. The outside lights in the bushes will stay up at least until the end of January.

We've filled a rose bowl in the hall window with tiny white LED lights and that is staying too. It's called our 'Come Home Safely' light - when one of us was working away from home, which used to be quite often, the lights would always be kept on in the window until we came home.

Ours came down today as well, 5th is twelfth night as far as I am concerned. All packed away in the loft even cleared out some old tat we had been hoarding up there. I feel very virtuous now. smile

henetha Tue 05-Jan-21 15:02:54

smile didn't work first time...

I undressed the tree and took all my decs down this morning and they are all packed away.
It's unlike me to be so efficient. I must be unwell!

HillyN Tue 05-Jan-21 14:19:27

Some down today, the rest tomorrow! We're never quite sure when Twelfth Night is, so spread it over two days. I have persuaded DH to leave the candle bridge up in the front window until Candlemas this year though.
Ginny, we always pack the bits we take down into the empty decoration boxes, so we know where everything is when we swap it back.

Mapleleaf Tue 05-Jan-21 14:01:10

The trees and nativity scene will be put away tomorrow, for 12th night. Other decorations have been put away over the last couple of days.

WishIwasyounger Tue 05-Jan-21 12:42:51

Mine came down today, and I miss them. The place looks bare now.

AliceJane Tue 05-Jan-21 11:42:29

Taking mine down today. Although I'm think of relocating the Christmas tree lights around the house as they cheer me up.

grannysyb Tue 05-Jan-21 11:38:25

Coming down today, DH pulls a face, he adores Christmas! It means that cleaning has to be done as all the surfaces in the sitting room have been covered, not my favourite job!

GrannyGravy13 Tue 05-Jan-21 11:32:05

Coming down tomorrow, the real tree still looks good despite being here for nearly four weeks.

Another one who will continue to light White Company candles as soon as it’s dusk ?(might even buy more in their online sale) ???

NanaandGrampy Tue 05-Jan-21 11:04:08

Now we are in another lockdown and it looks like we wont see our family until Easter we are taking ours down. We've had them up since mid November to cheer ourselves up, then Christmas got cancelled and I have promised the little ones we will have a full on Christmas when we see them.

So down they come today and they will be going up complete with tree, presents and a full on Christmas dinner when we can see them.

downtoearth Tue 05-Jan-21 10:48:48
