Who knows the secret to buying a comfy bra online?

I hate bra shopping and now the shops are closed I have no idea how to buy. I usually spend hours trying on, after being measured,( and often end up with a totally different size to what I was first told!) The last one I bought without being able to try on has been changed 3 times and now sits in my 'charity bag' I can't afford to waste money on things that don't fit. I have some comfy 'crop' top bras which are ok under winter woollies, but need more support and a better shape for thinner clothes. Help please.

Comfy for one is not for others so recommendations are not going to help.

M&S for me but only certain styles. Today the under wire has come out in the washing machine so am hoping that style are still available and I will have to get machine repaired.

M&S have such a variety that you could order a dozen from there and send back what you do not like.

I use a net bag with a zip in case a wire comes out.

I have no idea how to buy a comfy bra and am currently 'flopping' so I will watch this thread with interest.

I ordered three bras from M&S a few months ago. All in my usual size, only one fit !!
It’s a minefield trying to get one without going out and trying on..

I loathe wearing bra's. Lockdown has been a bad thing because often I just don't bother. I found a good sports bra, I think triumph that was comfortable and provided a bit of support. It wore out. I'm another watching this thread
M&S bra's just don't fit me. I've found one brand that does, or it did but no longer

Recently a friend gave me a catalogue from Bravissimo. Firstly, I must say that I did know my proper size as discovered when a few years back I was measured up at Rigby and Peller of Mayfair.
I have already bought one which is perfect and have just ordered another 2 different designs. They are easily returned (free) and money speedily refunded. There is much telephone and online help with regard to size and fitting.
I was keen to find bras that were reasonably priced as the updated price on my original ones was over £80.
I don't think it permissible to actually give you a website link on here but of course there is one.

Another vote here for Bravissimo, easy to use website, and helpful folks to speak to either online chat or on the phone.

Being rather well-endowed, I find Panache bras both supportive and comfortable. I was buying them from a Bravissimo store but since lockdown I now order them online from JD Williams. I usually buy several bras in various cup sizes to ensure best fit.
They occasionally do free delivery but returns are always free and very straightforward.

I used to find BHS bras good but I only have one, very worn out, one left. Surely whoever made these for BHS must be supplying someone else?

I too use Bravissimo. They also sell swimwear, dresses and tops etc some of which are lovely.

I was a fan of the BHS plain white cotton, no wires, no padding, bra. Cheap and cheerful, but just right for my 34A chest.

Got a couple of M&S ones, not as good, but even they have disappeared from the website. Will soon need new ones, dreading it.

It’s the Holy Grail of underwear isn’t it??
I find M&S fine for me, but always try them on before buying.
I shall have to hang on and not buy any more until things are safer/change completely.
I don’t buy any that are underwired though, and they must be lacy.

I’m never going to buy an underwire bra ever again they are so uncomfortable I just order several from NEXT then try them on at home and if they don’t fit they go right back without any fuss.

I have a jd williams catalogue and order 6 styles of bra, 2 of each one, pick the one that fits best and return the rest as its free returns. I usually buy glamorise bras, but they are getting really expensive, what annoys me is I find a comfy bra then when I decide to buy new ones the style I want is no longer made.

Nanna58 Wed 06-Jan-21 16:50:56

Slightly off topic but can anyone explain why bras for us busty ladies cost more than small sizes? If we buy a dress a size16 is the same price as an 8 _ !

Hetty58 Wed 06-Jan-21 16:59:07

I just don't wear them these days - so much easier. I now wonder why on Earth I put up with all that discomfort.

All I have, for 'special occasions' only are some comfy 'home made' ones.

Simply stitch the front of a bra into a tight-fitting cotton tank vest. Cut off the straps and back.

A comfy bra is an oxymoron. grin

I was trying to imagine that Liz when I realised you didn’t mean that you wear it! grin grin .

Holy grail of bras? At last count I had 47 perfectly good bras in the drawer but only find around 6 of them comfy enough to wear all day. How sad is that.
I'm a bit like those young men who do the rounds of local pubs looking for the perfect pie! My hoarding friend said "at least there's something you hoard!" I suppose you could look at it like that.
Watching this post, like others, with interest!

It’s so tricky bra buying, how I would love to go bra less but am too big n floppy for that. I don’t like underwires because they stick in but I need support, so always go for the same Berlei bra mail order. They’re good but I’d like to try some soft sports bras but can’t be bothered with the faff of trying things and sending back if unsuitable.

Nanof3 Wed 06-Jan-21 19:20:14

The M & S range of non underwired bras seems to have shrunk and you cannot try them on so have to lay out a lot of money and then have all the faff of returning them for a refund. I now order a selection from the Grattan catalogue and return the unwanted ones for free and then pay for the one I choose. You can drop the parcel off at a local shop or they will send a courier to collect.

Another vote for Bravissimo. I’ve just taken delivery of 2 wireless bras which should be more comfy than under wired. (Wonder if they get Radio 2)?

NotSpaghetti Wed 06-Jan-21 20:13:44

If underwires "stick in" they are almost certainly the wrong size.

Ample Bosom has super knowledgable and friendly ladies on the phone but I think you will pay to return.

Figleaves is free returns I think. They have bras that work for me better than Bravissimo or M&S.
I have never found a M&S bra to fit properly. Obviously an unusual shape!!

Figleaves usually has an introductory offer on BTW.

I'm afraid I buy "expensive" bras but having found a make and shape I like and always fit correctly in "my" size. I just buy the new version of it if I can't find the old version in a sale somewhere. I usually have 4 that fit and I wear them all day happily and wash them by hand after one or two wearings. They are comfortable and last for years. I only buy wired bras.

My daughter just bought 8 bras and returned 7 the next day as she didn't know quite what size/shape to get after breastfeeding. She used figleaves and says she was quickly refunded.
If you can afford the initial outlay, after measuring correctly, I might try this method... OR I'd get some telephone advice from Ample Bosom. - I bought a swimsuit from then and it was excellent and fit first time.

I youtubed how to measure yourself for bra.

Went upstairs tape measure in had (made sure the heating was on, closed the curtains)

Spent about 15 mins measuring adding up and re measuring.

Wrote them down and set of to Asda George, bought a few in the size I was meant to be(completely diff from what I had been wearing for years.

Came home tried them on and not one of them fit! talk about my cup runneth over!
I had a gap at the front, I was spilling out at the side hmm

I took them back and have given up for the time being, back to my old comfies.

I bought a bra once from J D Williams-it rubbed underneath the cups and took the skin off, for goodness sake!
I usually get fitted at local M&S but will try Bravissimo now. I haven’t worn under wired for a long time now
