People have to do what they have to do.

Some feel entitled to go about and mix as they always have, others feel it's wrong and report them.

Not necessarily a right or wrong.

Witzend

IMO it’s been a godsend for curtain-twitchers. For once they can feel thoroughly self-righteous about it.

I’m reminded of Alan Bennett’s monologue Lady of Letters, with the brilliant Patricia Routledge, about a curtain-twitcher.
Has anyone else seen it?

Irene’s Platignum would be going ten to the dozen!

Whatever happened to the ‘ Covid Marshalls’ who were supposed to be on the lookout for rule breakers?

Sorry I hijacked that thread. We’re in a small development of 25 houses - mostly rules have been observed here but don’t know what people get up to when they’re elsewhere.

I did see Talking Heads and am now reading them in Alan Bennett’s book, which is complete with stage directions. They’re all brilliant observations.

I hope the police do not respond to reports from the curtain twitchers reporting a few people standing together or that their neighbours have been out all day or had 2 visitors.

These same people will be complaining that the police do not deal with mass gatherings, they cannot if you keep bothering them with pettiness.

I know of three families who broke the rules over Christmas and had large gatherings in separate premises.. Every single one has tested positive for covid. Some really quite ill

People just don’t get it do they? , and I watched as one household came out clapping last Spring.

I’m sure the clinicians would prefer that they stuck to the rules rather than clap. What an empty gesture that is.

Lawbreakers deserve all they get, is my motto.

I'm more mercenary with my thoughts.
No, I wouldn't report anyone, I'd just wait and see if the flouters become the next victims of this virus, with a " serves you right " attitude.

Yes I remember it- brilliant piece of writing.

I think you should report any large gathering but if its neighbours and minor transgressions then you still have to live with your neighbours afterwards and anyway - 'walk a mile in their shoes' before you do it.

This has been going on all year unfortunately.

There have been countless threads on this site alone of posters relaying their neighbours activities.

Obviously large gatherings and parties should be reported but honestly, doesn’t all this spying on neighbours leave a nasty taste in the mouth?

Your friend and her friends were outside getting very beneficial exercise in the open air and if they kept the correct social distance they were perfectly safe and not putting anyone else at risk.

I've just read that since COVID there has been a new 'army' of unofficial, self appointed and self righteous civilians, from all over the world, who have taken it upon themselves to report 'offenders' to the authorities. By 'offenders' I mean those (neighbours and even friends and family) that are not adhering to the rules, that is for example those who perhaps have larger gatherings than permissible in their garden ( and yes, this is very unacceptable and perhaps should be reported). But a friend recently met 2 other friends in a park for an hour (all of who had hardly left their homes in the past 9 months), maintained social distance and my friend's neighbour reported her to the police. Now none of us should be breaking the law with regard to what we can and can't do (which is confusing for many) but I cannot help but think that doing something like this, in this instance, for something which I consider to be petty, will overstretch the already overstretched authorities even more, bearing in mind the police have to fill in a police report for every call they receive and process it.
