I've just read that since COVID there has been a new 'army' of unofficial, self appointed and self righteous civilians, from all over the world, who have taken it upon themselves to report 'offenders' to the authorities. By 'offenders' I mean those (neighbours and even friends and family) that are not adhering to the rules, that is for example those who perhaps have larger gatherings than permissible in their garden ( and yes, this is very unacceptable and perhaps should be reported). But a friend recently met 2 other friends in a park for an hour (all of who had hardly left their homes in the past 9 months), maintained social distance and my friend's neighbour reported her to the police. Now none of us should be breaking the law with regard to what we can and can't do (which is confusing for many) but I cannot help but think that doing something like this, in this instance, for something which I consider to be petty, will overstretch the already overstretched authorities even more, bearing in mind the police have to fill in a police report for every call they receive and process it.
