Secret vice, keeping me occupied during lockdown.

I saw an item on the news about unusual things people were doing to improve their mental and emotional wellbeing during lockdown and then posting on Tik Tok.

I have one to share, blush with you all.

I have become hooked on a Chinese romcom on You Tube, called The General's Lady. It involves a lady, who on the orders of the emperor, is in an arranged marriage to a general guarding the frontier.
Its the last thing I would consider watching. or admit to watching. ?

Would any of you like to share just one thing you do, the stranger, the better. ?

I have developed a love of Hell's Kitchen USA.

I am also a fan of true crime. I have a particular interest in cannibalism, torture methods, female criminals, and historical true crime. Please note, everyone, that all of this is purely THEORETICAL. I would NEVER CONSIDER doing any of these things to another person. In fact, I have been described as a very caring and compassionate instructor and nurse by my students and patients.

Ann Rule, who was considered the foremost writer in the true crime genre, once wrote that the overwhelming majority of her readers were gentle people who would never dream of engaging in the actions described in her books. I actually have a true crime book that deals specifically with the reasons why true crime, especially serial killers, is an appealing topic. One of their points, and I agree with this on my part, is that what these people do is completely anathema to how most of us behave. It's intriguing to discover what motivates people to engage in behaviour that is so totally outside social mores.

Every day I go on the live web cam of the Minack theatre and the one at the Hotel Baia in Cascais, Portugal. I sometimes travel via Google street view from my son’s building in Lisbon, to Cascais and along the coast road. I look for people I might know —even though I know there aren’t—

When I was a teenage student nurse in A&E a man came in with a very large boil on his scalp. We’re talking golf ball size.

I was told to shave carefully round it for the doctor to have a clearer look to incise it. The man was very grumpy and impatient, probably due to the pain. He told me to hurry up and get on with it.

I did exactly that. I accidentally nicked his golf ball with the razor. He felt instant relief and I had it drained by the time the doctor appeared.

Gagajo, are you trying to get me to confess? NEVER!

The pimple popping I like best is the sea of blackheads. But I wish they'd show a before and after.

Adore Bob Ross. What a gentle, gifted soul he was.

Watching pimple popping and earwax removal would definitely class as a guilty pleasure! I think emptying of huge boils can also be found online. Best avoided whilst eating I imagine.

OMG Md, I give in to watching those sometimes! Sometimes I can't look!

Oh I have no problem looking. ?

Peasblossom

Where have you found ‘800 words’ Chestnut?

I really enjoyed that. I’d like to see it again and maybe some new episodes.

I think they're all on BBC iPlayer but not sure for how long. There are several series so quite a few episodes! But relaxing and chilled-out to watch.

? Looking on U Tube for a family on there that I follow,I stumbled upon a series of American doctors removing earwax,I was fascinated by the large amounts extracted, fortunately this guilty pleasure only lasted for a short while, and I have now recovered.

Reminds me of a form of transport in the previous Swiss place I lived. A funicular train that went straight down the mountain, instead of round, like a regular train. I am a real wimp and thought I would hate it but it was great!

MagicWand Thu 14-Jan-21 22:27:18

I love the ‘real time’ films on YouTube of train and cable car journeys going through wonderful Swiss and Austrian scenery. Loved the journey through New Zealand on BBC earlier last year too.

What about the disgusting pimple popping, worse than earwax? ?

3dognight Thu 14-Jan-21 21:49:21

That's so funny downtoeath, I have had a good chuckle over that!
I have a corn on my foot and a search on you tube to see what to do to get rid of it, well I wish I hadn't , it was almost like 'corn porn' , close ups of huge ugly corns being removed with scalpels. It made me feel abit queasy, so I closed it down quick! Abit similar to your earwax scenario!

For myself I have enjoyed watching a Pointer kennel in the US on you tube. I have followed one of their bitches giving birth and first two months with fascination , in instalments.

Other than that watching Peaky Blinders box sets.

A re-run of Darling Buds of May just before Christmas which gave me an idea for a present for DH. The Larkin family were on holiday in France and at breakfast 'Pa' had two boiled eggs in a double egg cup. DH admired it so I got him one for Christmas.

I am shamefully back on the diet Coke. I know it is disgusting and very bad for me. But I used to have a real addiction and have been off it for probably 3 or 4 years. I have been sneaking a couple of cans in with my shopping each time.

Jaxjacky Thu 14-Jan-21 20:47:00

I think I need to try harder and find one, mind you, ‘could do better’ was not unknown on my school reports.

Hours of online bridge and scrabble.

Mamardoit Thu 14-Jan-21 19:36:57

Doing the family tree.

Searching YouTube. Mainly for songs that make me laugh.

We have watched lots of Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister.

We have a jigsaw on the go.

Watching/listening too Andre Rieu.......Yes I know but I don't know how to play bridge and my spelling is too poor for scrabble.

Wine.

I've been reading books on my Kindle. Quite naughty books to be honest - but no one knows what you are reading when you use your Kindle blush
Any body got any recommendations? But nothing too saucy, please!
