Grey day again which does nothing to help my prevailing mood even though I have little to complain of compared with so many on this thread. It’s partly having nothing to plan for and look forward to, and like most of us I am longing for signs of spring.

Enough wallowing. Must find something useful to do - there are always cupboards to sort out if all else fails. Thinking of Auntieflo and everyone with anxieties of any kind.

Grandmafrench Fri 15-Jan-21 09:43:34

Good Morning everyone. Warm, sunny and blue here in the South. We’ll have a celebratory glass with our coffee this morning (how very French!) as my baby Son is .......50. Born at home at this time - to a ridiculously excited me. I remember there being a huge blue ribbon hanging in our bedroom window for anyone walking past in the village to have the news.

We shall celebrate too the arrival of a longer curfew. Well, how nice! Everyone at home from 6pm until 6am from tomorrow in France. Ooohhh be still my beating heart. This excitement ! ??

AuntieFlo hope your consultant has a plan and you’re feeling calm. ? Appalled at your treatment, Mary. You’ll be asked to manufacture your own meds, next! Hope you’re feeling a bit stronger..despite those who cannot do their jobs needing supervision and intervention.

Rotten night for you momb. Gets better once you speak about it, I find. Welcome to you NaughtyNan - GM is the best place to start any day! mollygo are you new? If so, glad to see you. (If not, shut up me!)

Hurrah for all those with vaccine texts! I shall speak to my Doc this afternoon and ask about vaccination plans here. Normally we get letters from the Government about everything. We shall see.

So, lovely peeps. Please watch how you go today. Sounds like the winter is making outing and abouting a challenge. Please take care and avoid all falls or going out at all in dodgy conditions if you can!

Hugs ? and all good wishes to you all. STAY SAFE. Enjoy another day closer to freedom. ?‍♀️???

Grey, misty and cold looking here, just about to go for a long
( well, long-ish)?walk.
Later have to do some phone calls, housework and meal prep.
Fun fun fun all the way.Sigh.

Gelisajams Fri 15-Jan-21 09:55:06

God morning from a frosty Morecambe Bay. The weather app says it’s misty but I can see the snow capped Fells and the Pennine Moors in the distance. I’ve done my exercises and may go out for a walk shortly if it’s not to busy. The other day the world with dogs seemed to be on the towpath which didn’t allow for social distancing.
Other than that not a lot planned. I’m running out of things to do. The house has never been so organised!
Take care, stay safe everyone ?

Sparklefizz Fri 15-Jan-21 09:58:33

Good Morning Mick and all GNs from cold and dank South Glos.

NanKate Glad to hear you've had a text re the vaccine. I've heard nothing but on Points West, our local news, it seems that the roll-out is going well and another large vaccine hub has opened in Bath.

Nothing exciting happening here. I'll be doing more voluntary work online today and also reading one of my Christmas books, the new Philippa Gregory "Dark Tides" which has got to a really good bit!

Thinking of Auntieflo, Travelsafar, Marydoll and all who are struggling, or not feeling well. x

Nortsat Fri 15-Jan-21 10:12:06

Good morning Mick and the GM team from grey east London. The temperature was 7 here yesterday but the weather forecast said ‘it feels like 0’, which it did. We kept putting the heating up.

I am late joining the Good Morningers this morning, though I woke at 7.30, my partner and I enjoyed listening to the historian David Olusoga on Desert Island Discs on BBC R4 at 9.00am and having an extra cup of coffee.

I am not sure it’s worth listening to Desert Island Discs on Catch Up any longer, because they have changed the way they archive the programmes. The extracts of music are now so short, it’s really hard to get a sense of the piece.
However, David Olusoga ended with a lovely piece of Ella Fitzgerald which is a good start to anyone’s day.

Thinking of Auntieflo today.
I forgot the thank the kind GMs who expressed empathy/sympathy the other day, over my HMRC saga. Your kind words are appreciated.
When I am frustrated with HMRC, it makes me think of gilly and her battles with the banks and the tax people. Sending you good wishes gilly, if you’re reading.

Wishing everyone a decent day, especially those facing challenges. Let’s stay warm and safe and ‘let’s be careful out there’.

Nannytopsy Fri 15-Jan-21 10:14:29

Good morning Mick and the Parsley Box gang!
Very slightly brighter in Suffolk but I am not convinced it will last. I have ironing to do so the weather doesn’t really matter.
Roast lamb tonight - I am really looking forward to that ?.
I hope the day is kind to everyone.

Blossoming Fri 15-Jan-21 10:17:07

Good morning all, minus 2 degrees here, very foggy and frosty. I won’t be going out.

Urmstongran Fri 15-Jan-21 10:18:50

Good morning everyone from a dry but chilly South Manchester. The forecast is for a bit of sun and 4°C mid afternoon. I will suggest to Himself that we wrap up and go for a walk. He’s always keen, I have to psyche myself up to do something so I shan’t mention it in case I change my mind ..
#lazygran
& getting worse.
?

momb I slept in till 9am this morning. I’d had a rotten night like you the night before and catching up was bliss! Sorry you have worries. I hope you sleep like a top tonight too. I took 2 paracetamol before bed as I still intermittently have jaw, earache and postural dizziness. Horrid when I first lie down and during the night if I turn over. I any wait for this nasty inner ear virus to just bugger off.

Which pales into insignificance against your worries today Auntiflo. Sincere best wishes that your hospital appointment goes well today and your specialist can offer you a shovel full of hope and treatment.

When we are late to post we find so much to comment on. I’d like to say something to about 10 of you! It took me an hour to read all your posts.

Hello to our newbie RedNan ? great to have you join us. The NW coast had me thinking I’d like to visit the lovely market town of Poulton soon when we can. And when we have a car ha! The snow in Yorkshire means our lass is better off hanging on to it for the foreseeable.

Ooh, good new about vaccines harrigran! My 88y old stepfather goes for his tomorrow morning at 10am just up the road - he can walk it easily, 5 minutes away. Great news.

Isn’t it funny grandMattie how siblings can be so different? German and Lego. Love it! Our 2 are like chalk and cheese even now.

The reminiscing about December 1978 got me back there too with you Gingster and Ashcombe as our Yorkshire Lass was 11 months old. We had just moved into the house earlier that month, luckily before snow hit!

Right I’ll stop wittering and make a space for someone else. You can tell I’m upbeat this morning after a good sleep ha! Oh, thought and good morning to you Maw as you’ve put yourself on suspension following some nasty posts yesterday. I shall say no more on the subject.

Hope Friday is kind to us all. Keep safe everyone that’s the main thing. x

Willow73 Fri 15-Jan-21 10:24:52

At least its dry in Hertfordshire today, yesterday got wet and cold didn't enjoy my long dog walk, dog didn't enjoy the washdown afterwards either!
Going to enjoy this one today, wrap up warm, street walk only so no big dog wash afterwards. Only thing is, do I go this morning or afternoon, what a decision for a Friday!

EllanVannin Fri 15-Jan-21 10:29:58

Good Morning All x
A hard frost last night. I hadn't realised how cold it must have been when everywhere was white this morning, even with my bedroom window open----it's closed now, a bit too nippy.

Not sure if D had said she was off today. I haven't seen her since Christmas, but I feel awful having to rely on her because of her own full life. I certainly don't bother her any more than I have to do and never did before the virus struck.

Because the medical centre rang me again yesterday I've decided not to put D under an obligation so instead I'll get a taxi tomorrow and hope for the best. Apparently the clinical staff advise against public transport before any appointments, using car or taxi to transport you there. Hence why the buses are running empty.

Some tidying up to do but not much else apart from getting a ham out of the freezer to thaw ready for boiling to death tomorrow for Sunday's dinner, soak some peas tonight then I can add them to the liquid for pea soup tomorrow, so a few meals up to Tuesday. That's the way to do it--as Punch would say grin.

What a palava for Marydoll considering that technology is/ was supposed to make everything easier. Too easy at times as folk don't have to use their common sense and half the time the right-hand doesn't know what the left-hand's doing.

For all those who have worries and struggles I wish you well x. Also if you're feeling under par I hope things improve.x
Must get washed and dressed just in case D breezes in or she'll think I'm ill hahahaha.
Take care all and stay safe--careful underfoot too ! xx

Gwenisgreat1 Fri 15-Jan-21 10:42:11

Good Morning all from bright, very cold (with frozen snow) Harrogate - the snow is very crisp underfoot but will be treacherous later.
Yesterday ended up being spent trying to organise another shop from Sainsburies - my shop got stuck in the snow, the driver phoned to say there would be no more deliveries yesterday!! DH and I walked to the nearest shop to get milk and bits (fortunately for me the shop was empty) on the way home we could see traffic stranded on the main road. Sainsburies were quite unsympathetic to my plight - could I not ask someone to do my shopping for me? Can we collect? finally agreed to click and collect tomorrow when the snow should have dissipated. Our house has quite a steep drive. I learnt when we lived in Glasgow, If I had to dig the car out of the drive then everything else was shut! (It was a similar drive)
Hope everyone's struggles and fears go and that you have a lovely day.!

Sandrahill Fri 15-Jan-21 10:56:06

First time I read this page. Really helped me. DH has cancer and I’m feeling sad. Reading your posts lifted my heart and spirits today. If only the whole world was as kind to each other as this forum. Count your blessings everyone and thank God for all you have in life ??

HAZBEEN Fri 15-Jan-21 11:06:08

Good morning everyone. Firstly thank you all for the kind words on Wednesday after my bad night. I didn't post yesterday as I stayed in bed late (still not sleeping very well) then had internet problems that didn't sort themselves out until late afternoon!
The plan for today is baking! We have finally got through all the stuff from Christmas, had a break from sweet stuff and now I feel the need for cake! My OH has requested rock buns and I want a chocolate sponge so that will keep me busy.
Thinking of Auntieflo today and her appointment, best wishes love and hugs to all who need them.
Stay safe all.

GrannyOwl5 Fri 15-Jan-21 11:08:02

Good morning everyone from north Kent where it is grey and cold. Late posting as usual as I have been doing my daily stint on the treadmill on my virtual challenge of walking across the channel. I dare not leave it till later in the day as it is all too easy to talk myself out of doing it. Instead, I sit here glowing with self righteousness whilst catching up on all your posts.

Thoughts, like so many of us, are with Auntieflo; hope your appointment goes well

Best wishes to Mawbe hope you are still reading through this thread. There are some nasty posts floating around. As an old friend used to say, just rise above it and take the moral high ground!

Excellent news that so many are receiving notifications of vaccine appointments; still waiting here at Owl Towers but no doubt our time will come.

Hope everyone has a reasonable day; be careful if you are out and about; we need everyone to cross the finishing line in good order! Stay safe

Litterpicker Fri 15-Jan-21 11:09:11

Good morning from a sunny West Sussex. Finally plucked up the courage to post having been “observing” for many months. Following the lives of such a brave and cheerful group of people has given me an anchor through the lockdowns and restrictions. Enjoy all the posts but particularly drawn to the Scottish ones, having grown up on the south side of Glasgow.
Must get off the sofa and out for a walk today now that the rain has (temporarily) stopped.

Grandmafrench Fri 15-Jan-21 11:11:15

sandra just checking back in. How very sad we’ll all be for you - and many here can empathise. Keep posting, you can say anything on here. We’re all bound together by kindness...what IS the point of being anything else in life. We try/I do try to remember how lucky we can be. Sometimes it’s easy to take stuff for granted and of course we all need a rant sometimes!

Warm wishes to you...hope things get easier and you have enough support to help you both. Remember we’re here. ?‍♀️A big hug to you.

EllanVannin Fri 15-Jan-21 11:16:44

Sandrahill, God bless you. I've been through all that in the past, so know full well how you'll be feeling. x
Keep popping in here when you can, it will help and will give you that much needed lift when you're down.

Welcome to the best forum on the internet.

Grandmafrench Fri 15-Jan-21 11:16:50

hazbeen keep on keeping on, lady. ? Litterpicker welcome to our mad Club. No courage needed, just post! Urmston will doubtless turn up soon (as the self-appointed Daily Mail property correspondent) with a demand to know how much your house is worth. Remember to lie!?

Grandmabatty Fri 15-Jan-21 11:18:45

Welcome to Litterpicker and ? to Sandra hill. I'm sorry to hear that you are feeling sad and your husband is unwell.

HAZBEEN Fri 15-Jan-21 11:18:55

A very warm welcome to this thread Sandrahill it is a lovely supportive place to be. As *Grandmafrench8 has said we are here for you.
Another welcome to Litterpicker yes the people here are a very cheerful bunch (well mostly!).
Best wishes and hugs to you both.

Urmstongran Fri 15-Jan-21 11:19:00

Oh Sandrahill what a poignant first post.
?

We take good health for granted don’t we and bumble along, often complaining about inconsequential things until life turns on a sixpence, throwing us into the bitter realities of real worry. Sadly it shakes us to our very core. No wonder we say without good health is above wealth. How true.

You would change your circumstances in a heartbeat I expect.
Keep posting if you feel comforted here you will be made most welcome.

I recommend ‘soops kitchen’ too. A lovely thread, as nice as this one. I call them sister-threads. x

EllanVannin Fri 15-Jan-21 11:19:59

---> still not washed and dressed yet, hair like a burst mattress ! Must shake a leg now.

readalot Fri 15-Jan-21 11:21:22

Good morning Mick and everyone from Co Durham. It is minus 2 here and still loads of snow so won't be going anywhere today. My Tesco delivery turned up yesterday. It was my first time doing an online shop. When I looked out yesterday I thought they would cancel but they managed to get through which I was very pleased about. There was only one item that was substituted which was alright. I might start doing one once a month, I can get some bits from my local shop to keep me going. Well stay safe everyone

LauraNorder Fri 15-Jan-21 11:22:13
