The changing face of Gransnet?

I am a 'lockdown-joiner' to this forum, welcoming the opportunity join in with others who are similarly 'shut inside'.

I have been wondering whether people have found that the site has changed in any way over the last year?

Themes/quantity of posts/membership/patience/tolerance?

Just curious!

Gagajo I think your earlier post was a riposte to mine.

The art of purposeful provocation is not unknown. Many politicians live by it! Some forum frequenters are pretty skilled at it too.

Of course we are responsible for our action & words.

I have spent a long & happy career in education as a teacher & headteacher promoting that. But I have also spent enough time sorting out accusations of bullying & unkindness to know that, on some occasions, the person crying loudest is often not the victim.

I'm new here and have to say totally confused with what I'm trying to decipher. Thought this was a nice forum. Maybe just avoid this thread wink

Berylsgranny, please don't judge GN on this one thread. Try the Good Morning thread and Soops Kitchen, where I know you will be very welcome.

I know this thread seems to mainly be about unpleasantness, but it's actually more about posters showing compassion for other posters and what they feel is grave injustice.

Yes it is.
And yes you should!

FannyCornforth Mon 01-Feb-21 09:35:13

Berylsnanny I meant that in a nice way! Sorry, it looked a bit off written down! thanks

MissAdventure Mon 01-Feb-21 09:35:41

I got told off for asking where posters were.
Not by gnhq, I have to say.
"Against the rules", I was told, and that if someone is asked about it may put them under pressure. (Which I agree with, actually)

Lisagran Mon 01-Feb-21 09:40:37

Is this thread about to be deleted, FannyCornforth?

BlueBelle Mon 01-Feb-21 09:42:25

berylsnan just leave this thread it’s not a snapshot of gransnet you have just joined when there are some difficulties going on and people are upset by not being heard There are loads and loads of nice people on here and you will make friends get support and sometimes just like real life find yourself in the middle of an upset
Go to the good morning thread and say hello you will get lots of nice stable posts there
This will sort out as things always do
Don’t worry

That would be me, wouldn't it?
I didn't think that I was 'telling you off', just stating a fact, a fact that it oft discussed now.

Please don't shoot the messenger!
As I said yesterday, I don't have 'insider knowledge", I just probably pay too much attention to what is going on! smile

Is this thread about to be deleted, FannyCornforth?

Ha ha! I think that it's probably got another hour in it!

MissAdventure Mon 01-Feb-21 09:45:33

Yes, it was you. grin
You appeared just after I wrote that.

FannyCornforth Mon 01-Feb-21 09:49:34

Update: no, hang on, I think that it will be gone between 10 and 10.30am

Marydoll Mon 01-Feb-21 09:51:28

Do you have insider information, Fanny wink

At least we managed to air our concerns, although it probably won't make any difference. sad

Marydoll Mon 01-Feb-21 09:52:07

Crossed posts, Fanny. My apologies. blush

MissAdventure Mon 01-Feb-21 09:52:22

I'm certainly glad I aired mine.

kittylester Mon 01-Feb-21 09:52:43

I'm not sure why this thread should be deleted!! But, if it is, I would ask again that it is read from top to bottom and the points considered!

There are an awful lot of us saying similar things!

FannyCornforth Mon 01-Feb-21 09:54:21

Do you remember Vyvyan shouting about the video recorder in The Young Ones? I've got his voice in my head now!

"NO I DON'T HAVE INSIDER KNOWLEDGE!" grin

Elegran Mon 01-Feb-21 09:56:04

Berylsgranny I am sorry you are confused, but it is really quite simple.

Many people think that a moderator has been too harsh in suspending a long-standing poster for some undefined offence, and also think that some moderators have been interpreting the site guidelines rather randomly and unequally.

For instance, a thread discussing another thread is not allowed, which is reasonable if it is just for continuing an exchange of insults that has been deleted, but it seems we can't even mention the name of someone who has been banned, and wonder what they did wrong. They have even ruled that saying that we haven't seen X for a while, are they OK? is not allowed in some cases, but let it pass in others.

The site is "lightly moderated" which means that they should look into complaints about posts, but in reality some moderators seem not to look into the circumstances at all, but just delete a post automatically if someone doesn't like it. This is not moderation!

I think that it will totally depend upon whether it has been reported.
If it's been reported it will go sooner rather than later.
Not reported, it will carry on for a few hours until someone goes completely over the top (which is inevitable at some point)!

Elegran Mon 01-Feb-21 09:59:06

And then all the valid and necessary points that have been made will be lost for ever.

NellG Mon 01-Feb-21 10:00:17

ixion - interesting choice of name.

Marydoll Mon 01-Feb-21 10:00:59

Fanny, as we had a deleted post yesterday, I'm absolutely convinced that HQ are VERY aware of our comments.

Galaxy Mon 01-Feb-21 10:04:52

But if people have been banned they may not like you wondering what they have done wrong. I wouldn't like it at all.

trisher Mon 01-Feb-21 10:15:41

It should surely though be the right of the person banned to disclose why they were banned if they choose to? Or for those people under warnings to disclose this if they wish-of course by doing so they might just encourage anyone wanting them banned to continue the harassment
I'm reminded of my GGM who had 13 children and who when one of them reported another for some misdeed used to send the reporter to get her stick and then whack both children! There's a policy for GN!
This thread remains! Are they playing with us????

kittylester Mon 01-Feb-21 10:17:16

trisher, if they are banned they might find it difficult!!
