The changing face of Gransnet?

I am a 'lockdown-joiner' to this forum, welcoming the opportunity join in with others who are similarly 'shut inside'.

I have been wondering whether people have found that the site has changed in any way over the last year?

Themes/quantity of posts/membership/patience/tolerance?

Just curious!

Why are we all allowed to question Mick's absence on the GM thread, without sanctions or posts being deleted?

I do hope that Michael has not been banished to the wilderness- if he has then we're all Doomed, Doomed I tell you!

I thought of that harrigran but would we get everyone on board?

Lisagran I'm at one time GNHQ were asking for volunteers to be moderators. Are you up for it? It could be such fun ???
Although they would have to supply copious amounts of brew and cupcake

A thought has just occurred to me - GNHQ used to be quite jolly and good fun - always popping in saying they were eating cake, enjoying themselves in the office etc. Do you think all this working from home is getting to them? We must spare a thought for them, it can't be easy.

I predict earlier than Monday Blossoming

I've just come in from lumberjack duties - serves us right for having a 12kw wood burner and the thread is Still Here!!

Banishing posters, who are popular because of their support and good humour amongst other qualities, is flipping cruel IMO.

I had no end of support when DD died and now two posters I regarded as 'friends' who helped get me through those dark days are gone.....just because of some tinpot dictatorship at HQ. hmm

Spirit of Gransnet?

PAH!

Marydoll I had the same thought about the GM thread where almost every poster questioned the absence of Mick and speculated about why he was missing. I didn’t mention it at the time because I thought it might just trigger GMHQ to delete it but you are right I think they probably didn’t think they could delete all those posts without causing uproar and wiping out half of GN. Double standards and non consistent approach.

I will go for 2.30 pm to allow staff a lie in on Sunday with a cup of coffee.

AGAA4 Sun 31-Jan-21 10:51:37

I will put my money one shilling on 11.46 tomorrow.

Good managers are those who accept criticism and learn from it aren’t they, I can’t see anything on this thread that is doing anything other than that, so there isn’t a reason for it to be deleted by the site managers?
I’ve been on the site for about two years, and it doesn’t seem that different to me over that time. Over the years I have reported two posts because they made racist comments, and I don’t find that acceptable.
There are a few acerbic regular posters, who I can imagine would upset some people who are of a more delicate constitution, but you learn to avoid them don’t you - it’s possible the reporting is by new members who don’t know that some people always fire from the cuff without thinking about how kind their comments are

Blossoming grin

Blossoming Sun 31-Jan-21 10:23:54

It will disappear at 2:45pm on Monday polishes crystal ball

harrigran Sun 31-Jan-21 10:21:31

I wonder what would happen if we had a protest and nobody posted for 24 hours, do you think they would notice ?

Lisagran Sun 31-Jan-21 10:16:37

I get really confused these days (old age, stress, every day the same, etc! ), but I don’t know anything about GNHQ. Do you work for GN / MN FannyCornforth ?

Chewbacca Sun 31-Jan-21 10:15:41

That's a good point Marydoll. What's the difference I wonder? hmm

FannyCornforth do you know whether there are staff on duty at weekends @ GNHQ? Or is the office staffed just Monday to Friday?

Marydoll Sun 31-Jan-21 10:07:52

Please allow me to put something else into the mix.

Why are we all allowed to question Mick's absence on the GM thread, without sanctions or posts being deleted?
The only reason I can think of is, that there would be very little posts left. Double standards or not?

FannyCornforth Sun 31-Jan-21 10:07:51

Marydoll I remember that too. In fact we had a little pm discussion about it. Personally, I'm not entirely convinced.

ixion Sun 31-Jan-21 10:07:21

Seems a tad unfair, if you want to withdraw temporarily because of personal circumstances.

I think seacliff's idea to have a thread called Taking A Break would be a great idea. That would reassure those here who may be concerned but cannot enquire.

They have such a place on Mumsnet.
It's called Flouncers' Corner! grin

Marydoll Sun 31-Jan-21 10:04:06

I remember Lara apologising recently for reported posts being left up and saying there would be an investigation, as there was always someone one duty.

FannyCornforth Sun 31-Jan-21 10:02:09

Or lack of!

Marydoll Sun 31-Jan-21 10:01:42

Yes I was wondering that too, Lisa. How can you be sure, Fanny? I'm intrigued now. Am I missing something here? ?

FannyCornforth Sun 31-Jan-21 10:01:10

Chewy and Lisa - staffing.

Lisagran Sun 31-Jan-21 09:59:05

FannyCornforth

I don't think that it will be deleted.

What makes you say that, FannyCornforth ?

Marydoll Sun 31-Jan-21 09:58:12

grannyrebel7, if it never appeared at all, then HQ wouldn't be responsible.
When you start a new thread, the software uploads it. It's only then, I'm sure HQ can delete it.

Marydoll Sun 31-Jan-21 09:56:05

11.23⅓am. I'm allowing HQ time for a lie in and time to deal with the reports! Someone has bound to have brought it to their attention. wink

Charleygirl5 Sun 31-Jan-21 09:51:57

12 midday today I think.

grannyrebel7 Sun 31-Jan-21 09:51:35

I started a thread about feeling positive about the new Biden regime and it never appeared. Can't for the life of me think what I said that wasn't allowed. Do GN HQ inform you if your post gets deleted?

Chewbacca Sun 31-Jan-21 09:50:43

Don't you FannyCornforth? Do you have "insider knowledge"? wink
