The changing face of Gransnet?

I am a 'lockdown-joiner' to this forum, welcoming the opportunity join in with others who are similarly 'shut inside'.

I have been wondering whether people have found that the site has changed in any way over the last year?

Themes/quantity of posts/membership/patience/tolerance?

Just curious!

MissAdventure Tue 02-Feb-21 17:33:28

So that makes it ok then?

dragonfly46 Tue 02-Feb-21 17:32:40

No it isn’t right MissAdventure but FH is still around!

Thank you for listening, even if I'm talking out of my backside.

Is it right to be speculating on posters who have gone, without their expressed permission?
I think it's very poor taste.

In hindsight, I agree MissA.
I have reported an earlier post and asked for it to be deleted.

Well ixion, has your curiosity been satisfied now? grin

What a can of worms has been opened by your timely question.

In the early days Geraldine, Justine and Cari were all very ‘present ’ on the threads and a lot of posts that would be disallowed now, with a severe warning, went completed unremarked back then. However, there have always been contentious threads on GN. See the links below for examples:

Thank you, yes!
It was an eye-opener to see the kind of interaction there was, at one time, with the Moderators!
I hadn't realised.......

I must admit to feeling a little uncomfortable with the thought of lurkers reading and reporting without joining in a discussion. Rather creepy to think that someone is judging without having the courtesy to let those involved know.

I agree too, Gill, it's rather sinister.

Bathsheba Tue 02-Feb-21 17:21:39

Yes I'm with you there GillT57, it is really rather creepy isn't it? What kind of person would get pleasure from anonymously reporting people for perceived transgressions on a forum to which they never contribute? Bizarre, nasty in the extreme angry

WhiteWave - like you I think I'm starting to outgrow GN now. I've been a member since 2013. But don't want to leave as it's still good company in these socially deprived times.
Also like others I want to support Maw as she's had a very hard time over the last few years and perhaps this forum has been a lifeline for her.
As it has with other Grans who have been bereaved.

Yes I am so aware of the support that this forum can give to people and appreciate and feel glad that people feel so supported.

My sentiments entirely Gill57.

That was my response too. Doesn't want to participate and be part of the community, just wants an anonymous policing role........creepy and somewhat horrible.

Elegran Tue 02-Feb-21 17:11:15

No, Frank wasn't a myth, he posted for quite a while. Now I look back, his personality and writing style did appear rather like FH's, so the initials may possibly be relevant. However, I wouldn't risk putting any money on a bet.

"Urmstongran Tue 02-Feb-21 16:51:29
I thought FH was trans.

Oh, why?

Well, for one thing, there is a gay pub in Blackpoool called "The Flying Handbag"

I must check my emails, been busy with my RL!

^Oh and never underestimate the lurkers, who can form up to 70% of site traffic. Lurkers love a report button and they can press it with absolute anonymity.^

Definitely & well said NellG I’d forgotten that aspect. I remember being somewhat stunned when a poster said a couple of years back ‘I very rarely post, I tend to just read but I do report as often as I see fit’.
?

Goodness - why would anyone do that?
What is the point.

Posters talk about Frank but, as I never came across him, I thought he was a myth!

LauraNorder Tue 02-Feb-21 16:55:55

Urms you are norty.

LauraNorder Tue 02-Feb-21 16:55:05

Loopy, nuts, angry, sweeter than sugar, all imaginable types, who knows what we need, attention, love, argument, humour.
What we don’t need is injustice.

TerriBull Tue 02-Feb-21 16:46:49

Well I think I should be working for MI5, because Frank, if I remember rightly was Frank Hunter, so there you are FH!! maybe he came back as Flying Handbag because the FH initials had some special underlying significance other than standing for foreign holidays!
