The changing face of Gransnet?

I am a 'lockdown-joiner' to this forum, welcoming the opportunity join in with others who are similarly 'shut inside'.

I have been wondering whether people have found that the site has changed in any way over the last year?

Themes/quantity of posts/membership/patience/tolerance?

Just curious!

I will put my money one shilling on 11.46 tomorrow.

I think that this is a good shout.
I'll give you odds of 3/1 AGA smile

Nod, nod, wink, wink, say no more, FannyCornforth? Do tell....

But I really resent it when a thread disappears before I have had a chance to read it!!! It's like arrivng at a party after all the booze has gone! Trisher grin

Well said kalu

Gosh Marydoll are people that devious - well actually yes they are and I have known a fair few.

I have always posted very innocuous posts, or so I thought, but I too have had my knuckles rapped on a number of occasions. I know full well who instigated that!

I reckon 10am when the daily email comes out and shortly afterwards I will receive my knuckle wrapping!

Marydoll Sun 31-Jan-21 12:43:03

Lisagran, you must have been reading my mind. It can't be easy working from home and homeschooling at the same time. ?

I did notice recently that HQ now only drop in to tell us off.
Last year I started a thread about the disaster I had when dying my very blonde eyebrows. Unfortunately we weren't in lockdown and I had to wear a paper bag over my head, until they lightened up.
HQ joined in the banter on the thread. All good fun. Oh for those happy days. (sigh).

Puzzler61 Sun 31-Jan-21 12:44:20

With the volume of comments on this platform I’d be surprised if anyone in the big office reads through each post to find what they term as unhelpful comments.
It is possible to run IT reports on certain key words within threads that may point to contentious posts e.g.
Where is?
Banned
Mods.orModerator

Then the job is shorter.

sodapop Sun 31-Jan-21 12:44:41

I thought the same thing Marydoll and BlueBelle Why could we ask about Mick and not the person rising from the ashes. I chickened out of commenting though.

Galaxy Sun 31-Jan-21 12:44:57

The thing is people have different views of what is ok. Some people may think that what they are saying is fine but if it breaks the guidelines and is reported then well it wasnt. I have been deleted before, I just took it on the chin as I knew I had broken the guidelines, even if what I said was right!

grannysyb Sun 31-Jan-21 12:45:56

In total agreement with Iam64, I think the owner of the thin dog is being unfairly treated.

Kalu Sun 31-Jan-21 12:46:57

Trisher ?. It also makes me say bad words!?

nanna8 Sun 31-Jan-21 12:47:48

I don’t read half my emails because I get so many, hundreds everyday, because of an organisation I am sec of so I probably wouldn’t even read anything sent! Anything remotely nasty - straight to the bin ?

Marydoll Sun 31-Jan-21 12:47:59

Never, Kalu. I thought you were a lady! More disillusionment. sad

petra Sun 31-Jan-21 12:51:00

So many brilliant posts. Puts a smile on your face, doesn't it.??
Now I don't want to teach my grandmothers how to suck eggs but you can still read GN whether your banned or otherwise.
So hers a big hug and ? to the lady with the thin dog

Nannytopsy Sun 31-Jan-21 12:52:17

Many of the posters here live alone or with a pet. Their families are distant and at the moment there can be no contact. There will be terribly lonely days, anniversaries, birthdays etc. On those days GN is a source of comfort because however much you love your pet, it isn’t the same! How cruel that members are denied that because of “guidelines”.

Bellanonna Sun 31-Jan-21 12:52:26

I so agree about the isolation that banishment could leave a poster in, marydoll. That person could well have looked forward to “meeting” friends on a couple of friendly sites, and sharing stories about her day. Also offering welcome advice where appropriate. We are coping with life in unprecedented times and we all need company, even f it’s virtual.
It gives me a nasty feeling to think someone among us is reporting threads. Yes this will surely be deleted but I gather from a comment upthread that this won’t be until tomorrow.
Were they just guessing or is it something they know?

Marydoll Sun 31-Jan-21 12:52:27

Petra, you can, just can't post. I'm sure the thin dog's mum has been uplifted by all the support.

FannyCornforth Sun 31-Jan-21 12:53:00

Puzzler I sincerely doubt that it's as high tech as that!
Lisa - nooo! I don't work for MN or GN! I can't even do links!
You are a suspicious lot!
I'm just going by what I've noticed, especially in relation to (late of this parish) Foxtrot Hotel.
I've noticed that nothing much seems to happen on a Sunday and early mornings aren't a hub of activity either.
I'm being vague on purpose, but I honestly don't have any insider knowledge!

Lucca Sun 31-Jan-21 13:02:23

I think bluebelle has a very possible conspiracy theory ?
I have reported posts for a) disseminating fake news re the pandemic. Or b) unacceptable personal attacks.
I’ve also had posts deleted much to my surprise sometimes !

brook2704 Sun 31-Jan-21 13:04:00

I too have been puzzled as to why we can ask about a missing poster on the GM thread but not on other threads? Double standards, inconsistency and makes no sense .
GNHQ need to clarify as it’s mixed messages... it’ll be interesting to see what happens...

Kalu Sun 31-Jan-21 13:04:02

Thé way the owner of the thin dog is being treated is appalling!
Singled out from similar posts by whom? I know who, a few of us know who but.....who gives a toss?....those of us who know her and know we are a life line for her !

I have heard the phrase, Lessons have been learnt, ad nauseam for months during this pandemic but, hopefully, in the case of this thread, it is applied.

grannysyb Sun 31-Jan-21 13:08:01

Hear hear Kalu.

dragonfly46 Sun 31-Jan-21 13:09:17

I sincerely hope the owner of the thin dog returns to us soon. I for one miss her wise counsel. If she is reading this I hope she takes heart.
The conspiracy theory could be right and it is now all being done undercover - a frightening prospect.

Kalu Sun 31-Jan-21 13:11:27

Sorry to disillusion you Marydoll ?.

farview Sun 31-Jan-21 13:16:35

What a wonderful, truthful thread...I agree with most things said on here...I was astounded the other day by the removal of a thread that I started because i was worried about a male gransnetter who ,every day starts an "early thread".....

dragonfly46 Sun 31-Jan-21 13:20:09

That was indeed shocking Farview

farview Sun 31-Jan-21 13:30:09

Yes it was dragonfly46...because if we aren't allowed to care about the welfare of our fellow gransnetters...then what the heck is the point?
