It’s interesting you should say that. I watched a series on Netflix called Manhunt about how the Unabomber was eventually tracked down. He was finally caught after one of the detectives who was (I think) a forensic psychologist who specialised in profiling, recognised his writing style from a taunting letter he’d written to the Washington post, and compared it to one he’d written to his brother.

Some posters have very distinctive styles and I could probably tell who’d written them without looking at their usernames. Others not so much.

Yes Doodle, other posters who have been banned have been eventually reinstated. A more civilised form of treatment which should apply to all.

All right in for penny so to speak! It was FlyingHandbag and all the other identities the poster came up with and there had to be about 5 at least. I fact I have my suspicions that they are back again but I may be wrong on that.

Yes! I really can't remember, or maybe it was before my time.

It’s this lifelong ban that is really the problem. I think there is a valid argument that someone can be suspended if they keep breaking the guidelines (as long as the guidelines are clearly stated) The suspension could be a week or two maybe a month but banning someone for ever because they disagree with someone else is not on.

GNHQ even prisoners get out on parole or early release.
The ban is too much. Please reconsider.

FH, I'm wondering if that was Frank ? anyone remember him ? that was all a long time ago. Never quite sure what he did wrong, he appeared to post mainly about family finances and his dog Andie, personally I found his posts innocuous and the ones about his dog quite amusing, but maybe I wasn't reading between the lines. Not sure we're allowed to speculate, but sometimes it's hard not to.

Well I can remember I think one of maws deleted posts which said exactly what I thought, and in an amusing way. A criticism of somebody’s joke ? Why she was reprimanded for that I can’t imagine.

I have had a post deleted with a reminder; personal attacks are against our guidelines and do not sit well with our ethos!

I mentioned two posters who have been mentioned long before my post. Very confusing.

NellG you said in your post we tick the box and except Ts & Cs. The way I see it the rules have change and are not consistent now to what I signed up for. No where does it say we cannot mention any poster by name when asking after their welfare but now seemingly on the GM thread we can but no where else. No where does it say we cannot discuss certain subjects or respond to certain posters in a way that shows we disagree with them but now we cant. We are only ever told when a post is deleted that it is "against the spirit of GN" or that it breaks "talk guidelines" we are not told how.

This was my point in my post at 14.48. There should be clearcut rules not woolly phrases.
