What makes a good friend?

All of the above characteristics, but also forgiving. It works on both sides and we all have off days.

A good friend is someone who I trust and I am comfortable with. I can be rather direct don’t mince my words but I am kind and sensitive. My friends go back a long way they are very like me down to earth but without the temper.

My closest friend once told me that I was behaving badly, she knew she was telling me something I didnt want to hear but did it anyway because she cared about me. Thst was years ago and I have never forgotten it, it's one of the reasons I am so fond of her.

Yes, a good friend is someone who listens intently to what you have to say and not someone who has his/her own agenda and is waiting to have their say.
It is someone who is really interested in you and does not judge.

I think a good friend is someone you can open up to and know they will keep your confidence.

Someone who knows the meaning of keeping something confidential perhaps.

Mutual support, not just during fun times.

I have half a dozen very good friends. They can rely on me and I can rely on them. We do all live in the same county but in different towns.

I don't tell people all my business and poke my nose into their business and I think this stops a lot of falling out that some people experience.

Good friends are like gold I agree. I am still friends with two women I was at secondary school with. We are incredibly close. Recently I moved back to my home town and looked up a friend I hadn't seen since my teenage years. At first it was great to have someone to go out with but lately she has shown her true colours and I don't trust her at all. Like all relationships, friendships have to be worked on. Some people are just not worth the effort but others I cannot imagine life without.
