Good morning from a dry E Kent. The moon is very bright in a cloudless sky again.
Hope Mick and everyone are ok today l
As expected, I finished my quilt. I am gobsmacked that it only took me 32 days, despite its 6’x 6’ size. I have already started cutting the pieces for DGS monochrome quilt.
Not a lot on today - virtual church, roast chicken... oh, and DH’s vaccine! How could I forget?
May those in sorrow, pain or distress have relief today. Stay safe.

B9exchange Sun 31-Jan-21 09:35:01

You all sound a lovely lot, I have often skimmed down the thread, but been reluctant to join in as a newcomer here. I have enjoyed Mick's postings, hope he will come back to you soon.

GD's 12th birthday today, my DD is a single parent with a younger DGS, so we are in their bubble. She asked me to make her birthday cake, so will take that over later today. It will be her favourite chicken burgers for tea! Had my jab yesterday, feel a bit headachey and tired today, but I am sure that will wear off.

Thinking of MaryDoll and all of you out there.

Alygran Sun 31-Jan-21 09:31:57

Good morning from North Yorkshire. There’s a very frosty start to the day here and possibly some snow later.
Another vote for The Dig. I really enjoyed it.
Mary you brought a memory back ...DH had caught the hem in his cassock which he asked me to stitch up. I noticed a split in a side seam so did that too. The following Sunday he came in asking why I’d sewn his pocket up ?‍♀️.
So what to do today? Hmmm. Will get my thinking cap on.
Hope everyone has a good day. Stay safe.

NotAGran55 Sun 31-Jan-21 09:29:01

Good morning from bright West Berkshire.
Still no sign of Mick sad

RSPB bird watch today as the weather is fine after yesterday’s precipitation.
Will go for a walk with DH but I must admit that I don’t particularly enjoy the country and village walks . I put it down to the fact that I was brought up in a country village and couldn’t wait to get to a town for some fun!
I will happily tramp the city streets all day long in preference.

Enjoyed The Dig on Netflix yesterday. Beautifully shot and I loved the fashions .

Thoughts with those who have struggles for whatever reason.

Nannytopsy Sun 31-Jan-21 09:23:27

Good morning everyone! It’s a beautiful bright morning in Suffolk with a frost. Must do the birdwatch then perhaps a walk?
Roast pork today, and Christmas pud ( like Lins). Like Jax, I recently bought a new greenhouse. We had a man to install it ( worth every penny!) and there are lots of seeds here waiting to go. I just know I shall get impatient and plant things too soon.
There has been a young family on our regional TV who were in exactly the situation as Marydoll’s and mum only got to meet the baby weeks after the birth but they were fine now. I hope that the same out come happens for “our” lady.

Greyduster Sun 31-Jan-21 09:09:29

Good morning all GNs and Michael in absentia. Mick I don’t know what is keeping you away from us but I hope it’s nothing serious and we’ll see you back soon. GM and others are doing a sterling job in the meantime. It’s very cold and frosty in South Yorkshire and the sun has decided to go back to bed. We are supposed to be going for a walk. I have reached for my thousand and one book of excuses not to go for a walk. Chicken curry for dinner this evening; made it yesterday so no work involved today. Have the best day you can folks.

harrigran Sun 31-Jan-21 09:03:53

Good morning from the NE where we have a covering of snow.
Enjoyed The Dig last night on Netflix.
Another quiet day with the crosswords after a light lunch and hopefully find another film to watch this evening.
Stay safe and warm.

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

Urmstongran Sun 31-Jan-21 08:59:21

Good morning everyone from South Manchester (my predictive suggestion is still ‘Malaga’ - I wish!) where it’s cold, dry and almost sunny. Roast pork and all the trimmings for lunch today - my stepfather’s favourite dinner.

Last day of January. We saw snowdrops around the trees in the park yesterday, a lovely big bank of them. They are so delicate aren’t they with their tiny drooping bell heads. Amazing to think nature isn’t asleep even in winter.

Your quilt is absolutely gorgeous granMattie I can’t believe you’ve completed it so fast. I can’t sew for toffee. In fact I have no skills at all really. I spent so long on this iPad yesterday it’s become an addiction. I think I need to give myself ‘time out’. Himself calls it my arm extension. Oh dear.

I love the Matt cartoons! He is SO clever to come up with some amusing take on topical subjects every day. Here is today’s from the Telegraph....

Hope Sunday is kind to us all and that you are alright Mick. Well done gM in being up early enough for us lot to rely on! Glad we don’t all have to take a turn. Keep safe everyone that’s the main thing.

Ps a friend who has severe Crohn’s and is on biologics where she goes to hospital for an infusion every six weeks, had her jab yesterday here in Manchester. She is 58y.

Morning from a S Lanarkshire with a hard frost. I did get out for a walk yesterday and bumped into a friend I haven’t see for months. We had a great socially distanced blether but standing still was not the best thing to do in the extreme cold. Even after I started walking again I couldn’t get warm again so cut my walk short. The chat was worth it though.
Mass online this morning, remembering Marydolls friend and later I might get a glimpse of my youngest grandchildren in the back of mum’s car. Happy days! She is coming to pick up a Samsung notepad which I have discovered does support Google Classroom, so I can donate it to a family who need it. I’m pleased about that.
Good wishes to everyone for a pleasant day.

baubles Sun 31-Jan-21 08:47:23

Good morning from very cold and frosty S Lanarkshire.

What a fabulous quilt gM, I’m in awe of your talent and speed. What a cute puppy Elizabeth, your determination to improve your health and strength is an inspiration. Hope you find your mojo Marydoll but even to be able to alter a dress is good going.

It’ll be another quiet day here. Yesterday I watched the funeral Mass for my aunt and felt so sad for my cousins with only ten people allowed in the church. When their father, who was a much loved uncle to me, died a few years ago that same church was packed full.

It’ll be another quiet day here, a bit of a walk with the pooch and decide what to make for dinner later. I’ll stare into the fridge and hope inspiration strikes.

Thinking of everyone with sorrow and pain and hoping Mick is ok.

Gingster Sun 31-Jan-21 08:46:23

Good morning all and Thankyou GM for opening up. I keep thinking of Mick. It’s very strange he has suddenly disappeared. I do hope he’s well. ?

Your quilt is beautiful GM . You put me to shame! I have had pieces waiting to be put together for years now. I get them out of the bag, shuffle them around a bit and then put them back. My lovely friend has said she will come over with her machine and help me complete it. Hopefully sometime in the not too distant, when Covid eases. I don’t have a machine!

I’m glad you’re feeling brighter today Sar. The better weather will help.

A worrying time for hard working farmers Sheep/cattle.

What a lovely time you had with your DS Viridian . It’s always special to have them to yourself for just a while ♥️.

I wish I could come to your church Ashcombe and listen to you play. I’m yearning for some ‘live’ music and although I’m not a regular church goer,( I go when I want to, ), I find it so Uplifting. ?.

Wishing everyone a beautiful day.

Lins1066 Sun 31-Jan-21 08:38:27

Good morning all from a dry, cold S Welsh coast.
Beautiful quilt grandMattie.
Glad you are feeling happier today Sar.
Lovely puppy Elizabeth.
Painful feet will put a brake on activity today. Sausages and mash, followed by Christmas pudding for us later.
Have a pleasant day all.

Beauregard Sun 31-Jan-21 08:37:38

Good morning all. It's dry and chilly here in Derbyshire.
Lovely quilt grandMattie.

I did well and slept through last night. No fruit or veg with dinner and a glass of red is the key to no night time toilet stops for me. It is a rarity though as I normally eat lots of vegetables with dinner, hence up at least twice most nights.

I saw a glimpse of two of my happy, smiling grandsons yesterday through the car window when DD and SiL came to collect something. They both told us a silly joke. How we miss them. SiL is trying to sort the water out at the yard and thinks we need a new tap.

Hope we hear encouraging news from Marydoll today and that Mick is ok and back soon.

Have a good Sunday all.

Oopsadaisy1 Sun 31-Jan-21 08:33:08

Good Morning from a cold, sunny Oxfordshire, lovely to see the sun after some very wet days. Easy day today as I have a Lasagne in the fridge, I’ll save the roast for tomorrow as it’s DDs birthday, how can she be 47? I’ll have to re adjust my age from 37 now!
Hope that Mick. is safe and well, also thinking of Marydolls. friend and her baby.
Such sad and worrying times for us all.
Hugs to all who need them.

YorkLady Sun 31-Jan-21 08:26:57

Good morning all, from a frosty but sunny West Yorkshire.
Positive thoughts for only for today. OH has a vaccine booked for midday!
NanKate just noticed the daffodils trying to pop open, hints of yellow brightening the garden.
Sheepandcattle what sad news, sending you my best wishes.

Georgesgran Sun 31-Jan-21 08:26:09

Good morning from Durham, where we’ve a covering of snow.
Wasn’t expecting that.
DH having leg/calf problems - his right gave way yesterday and he almost fell. Not sure if it’s his treatment/meds/illness but it’s worrying.
Thinking of others with heavy hearts and minds. Stay safe. X

Elizabeth1 Sun 31-Jan-21 08:21:29

Where’s my puppy photo

Jaxjacky Sun 31-Jan-21 08:21:26

Good morning all, absent Mick and other absentees. A slight frost, I could feel the chill in bed through the open window. I bought a greenhouse yesterday, been dithering since November, typical me, but they had a sale on, so the decision was made. I had one six years ago but gave it away when we rented the house out, the assembly will give DH a challenge. Out for a walk later, no rain forecast, a brighter day and duck legs for dinner. Thoughts with those poorly, worried or just having a down.
Great quilt Grandmattie and along with your cartoon I leave you all with a thought:
Wonder how we’ll get on in the Eurovision Song Contest this year? ?

Elizabeth1 Sun 31-Jan-21 08:20:32

Good morning all from the east coast of Fife where it’s -1 with a flurry of frosty snow on the ground .thankfully my exercise bike is indoors where it’s nice and warm. I was on it twice yesterday taking myself to the Sandy coves in the Algarve again. My dh and I had a bit of a struggle getting me strapped on due to that Velcro going it’s own way. A few chosen words were said but we made it eventually.

afterwards I sat in the conservatory it was beautifully sunny looking out into the garden for the birds. Unfortunately there didn’t seem to be any around - why not may I ask?perhaps it wasn’t their feeding time. I’ve been fooled into thinking spring tine is just around the corner. But after reading the weather news this morning it looks like another snowstorm is on the forecast so be aware all and keep safe from these treacherous paths. Mick where are you? hope you’re okay sadyou’ve got everyone wondering if you’re safe. Thinking of all who are troubled and seeking solace virtual hugs all around flowers a photo to make you smile.

Marydoll Sun 31-Jan-21 08:20:18

Good morning all, it's -2°and pretty chilly here in Glasgow.
Thanks GM for starting us off.
The quilt looks fabulous, what a talented lady you are!

Nothing much to report here, I'm still trying to find my lost mojo, this permanent fatigue and lack of energy is getting me down.

At last I managed a little bit of sewing yesterday and altered the dress I bought. Unfortunately, I somehow managed to sew up the pockets! How on earth I did that, I don't know!? Today I will unpick the seam. ?
If I can find the clams in the freezer, I will make spaghetti alle vongole for Sunday lunch. When I mentioned it to DH, he said: So its chicken for lunch then? I never deliver what I have promised. ?

I haven't heard from my friend about her granddaughter, which is worrying me. I am going to phone another friend today, to see how his cataract op went on Friday. He is in close contact with our friend and if there is any news, he will know.
However, I don't want to be intrusive.

Thinking of all who are in pain or weighed down with worries. ?

dragonfly46 Sun 31-Jan-21 08:05:42

Good morning from a frosty Leicestershire.

Hoping to get out for a walk today then Zoom with DD and SiL this afternoon.
I actually had to venture out yesterday to get our prescriptions but waited til 4 when it was quiet. It still felt strange.

Wishing everyone a good day.

Pittcity Sun 31-Jan-21 08:04:34

Good morning from a brightening chilly Colchester. It didn't stop raining all day yesterday but is forecast to stay dry today.
We enjoyed The Dig on Netflix yesterday if you're looking for a film recommendation.
Usual agenda of not a lot with roast lamb and a glass of red.

ginny Sun 31-Jan-21 08:03:40

Good Morning. Fairly clear sky and dry here in North Bucks.

grandMattie great quilt.

Dd3 asked for a few baby beanie hats so knitting kept me busy yesterday.

The fabric I ordered arrived yesterday and I shall be having a go at making some small garments. My sewing is usually patchwork and craft items . Will have to wait until tomorrow to start as MIL is coming for lunch ( care bubble).

Hope*Mick *will soon return and that you all find a ?today.

Sheepandcattle Sun 31-Jan-21 07:56:46

Good morning all from a dry but chilly Wiltshire. I had an early phone call from my brother this morning to tell me that my 97 year old aunt has sadly passed away in the night. She was living in a nursing home and had contracted covid only a few days after having her covid jab. It seemed like she had amazingly pulled through but sadly it’s not the case. I had sent her some hyacinths and spring flowers yesterday and I do hope that she had been able to enjoy their scent at least. It’s so sad that, like so many in the past year, she died without a family member being able to be with her.
On a happier note, I’ve had lovely FaceTime chats with my children and grandchildren over the weekend. We’re so lucky to have the technology to be able to see them ‘live’ but I do wish that someone would invent a phone where we could reach through the screen and touch people! I physically ache to be able to stroke the little ones faces or even better, reach out and hug them!
A fairly quiet day planned on the farm today, providing nothing unexpected crops up. We have the last few weaned, summer born calves to sell next week and the barns to start setting up for lambing. Last weeks weaned calves sold well at market but apparently pigs were being sold for next to nothing due to difficulties with exporting meat since Brexit kicked in. I feel for the pig farmers when they are having to sell their stock for far, far less than it costs to produce them. British farming is certainly in a very precarious position at the moment and I for one, cannot predict what the next few years hold for us. I’m rather glad that I’m reaching the end of my working life and not a youngster starting off in agriculture.
Best wishes for all today. I too am keeping everything crossed for Marydoll’s friends daughter and granddaughter and hoping that we hear that all is well for them.

Gagagran Sun 31-Jan-21 07:56:35

Morning all from a dry but cloudy south coast. Chilly again - 1.8c at 6am.

We have a click and collect this morning which will be the highlight for today, in fact for the week. I have some Ready Reads to collect from the library on Tuesday so that is something on the agenda at last.

DD tells me that she has lost her appetite and is still coughing a lot but is hoping that she is over the worst. I hope so too.

Last day of January thank goodness. I think it is the month I most struggle with, being long and usually cold. At least February feels shorter and lighter and takes us nearer to spring.

Thinking of our missing friends especially Gilly and now Mick. Lucky to have an able deputy in grandMattie to open up!

Hope the day is the best it can be for us all. Keep warm and keep safe. Spring is on its way for sure. sunshine
