It may now be February, but we're still in the throes of bleak mid winter on the Angus coast, and the week's forecast doesn't make good reading either. So glad that there's good news of Marydoll's friend's GD. Fingers crossed now that all goes well on Friday. And congratulations Granfromafar on the birth of your grandson. I hope cuddles with the baby are not too far away. Something beautiful to look forward to!
Now off I pop to do I know not what. Staying warm and yearning for Spring are high on the list. Have a decent day everyone and special thoughts for the lonely in need of hugs. ☀️??

Good morning from Durham. It’s cold and crisp here. DH’s health has gone downhill over the past 3 days and he has now has no strength in his lower legs. He has his ‘jab’ tonight and is anxious to make it - I’ll have to help him into the venue. His oral chemo pauses on Wednesday, so he wants to see if there’s any improvement after that - otherwise he will have to call his Clinic.
Tough times ahead, I know.
Hope others with heavy hearts and minds have a decent day. X

January was such an orrible month for me I just gave up inflicting my miserable little self on all you good peeps until I missed you all and the 1st of the month seemed a good time to do my Sinatra impression! I’ve now got loads of catching up to do - that’ll learn me?

I see that Mick has also absented himself for a while and hope all is ok ? although GM is a safe pair of hands - in lots of ways!

I am reading Rumours of Rain by Andre Brink if anyone is interested in South Africa in the Apartheid era. It is the first book which has gripped me in a while.

Good morning all. I've been up and about for ages but this is my first opportunity to post. Babysitting duties today and tomorrow. It is still cold and frosty in Polmont but dry. I hope we see Mick back soon and others who are missing. Thank you*Marydoll*. I wasn't on the norty step but had pulled back from posting for a few days. It is heartening to hear the good news about your young friend. I was worried about her. Grandmattie that quilt is beautiful. I love the colours. I have no idea when I'll get my sh*t but mum has had hers which is good news. It's also heartening to hear how many of you have had your sh*t. I baked all weekend which always makes me happy as I'm a feeder. So flapjacks and banana bread have gone to son in law. Cinammon buns and peanut butter cookies and scones will be given to neighbours and frozen. I made a huge pot of lentil soup too do that'll keep me going. Son in law has a couple of interviews this week so fingers crossed. Right, I'm off to play as a toddler requires my attention. Have a good day all.

Another bright, frosty day. I much prefer this to the dull, grey, damp weather we seem to have so much of.

At last, February is here, which means another step closer to spring. I know we shouldn't wish our time away, but I find January such a haul to get through at the best if times, never mind during a lock down.

Your opening post made me smile, GM - an unintentional typo on your part but so funny, and it seemed to fit in with the rest of what you were saying ?. Your quilt is looking good.

Like everyone else, I hope that Mick is alright and that it is just a computer issue that is causing his absence like it was the last time. I find it most bizarre that suddenly we are allegedly not supposed to enquire after posters who aren't posting - it smacks of over control. It's a basic human trait to show concern about others, surely? I won't say more in case I get my wrists slapped, but I certainly think some clarification is called for.

Just taken my car in to have the exhaust holding band replaced and the garage has informed me I now have a slow leak in a front tyre that will need replacing. It is going to be one of those days!

Feeling much better today, side effects from the vaccination last night left me unable to get warm, with aching joints, mercifully gone this morning.

Hoping for news of Mick too...

Sar53 homeschooling is getting to most parents I think, I know that the GC we have here several times a week is struggling and we struggle to motivate him.

Good morning all from a bright, frosty, calm Morecambe Bay. I suspect it’s cold out there. Yesterday was bitter and we abandoned our walk.
Not much planned for today, apart from a bit of research into a house for sale by auction which DS1 thinks may be suitable for his brother. DS2 is autistic but works full time and lives independently, but he needs a lot of guidance and support. It could be a nerve racking few weeks!

Good Morning from dry and frosty Harrogate
The penalty I pay for cleaning my silver sugar tongs? I now have to label them with their hallmarks, etc!! It was manageable when I had ten, but now it's nearer 30!!
Have put a beef casserole in the slow cooker, am just as likely to forget about it and cook something else!!

Spoke to my cousin last night, it is a year since her son died suddenly, think it was a heart attack! She and her other son and his family are having a vigil today.

Have to admit my breathing is not good today, will have to improve it or end up in hospital! Don't want that!

Will be talking to my school friend later this morning, then my sister this afternoon. I don't think I'd have got through this without internet and all it brings!!

I’m not running to the Thursday Murder Club novel but as our Yorkshire Lass bought it for me at Christmas I feel obliged to start it today. That said, I would never buy a novel in hard back! No way Jose.

My first post! Watched The Dig on Netflix yesterday and can recommend it. Based on the true event of an important archaeological find in Suffolk, in 1939. Ralph Finnes is terrific as the main character, with strong supporting cast.

Many years ago, we had an inspection from her Majesty's Inspectorate. We hadn't had one in twenty years, so you can imagine how nervous we all were.
The head inspector came to inspect my maths class of 6 year olds. After delivering the lesson, I asked a pupil to now teach the class.
We got an outstanding and were singled out in the report. The school was filmed for the Scottish news, as we received the highest rating ever in an HMI report. Not bad for a school in one of the highest areas of deprivation in Scotland.

Like Grammaretto I'd also wondered why calving is so early, but agree it may be to do with the market/pasture. Hopefully Sheepandcattle will clarify. When we bred our horse we timed the AI so we got a spring foal (early May), but that was a one off. Racehorses are bred to foal earlier in the year as they all have official birthdays on 1st January. The earlier they foal the more chance they have to develop and mature before they start their racing career as two year olds.
