All is forgiven! ??
Good morning everyone. Sorry I’m late, not very good night.

DH had his shit yesterday and went to bed early with a sore arm and headache. He then proceeded to fidgety et all night. Got up at 330 for a hot drink and eventually came back to bed. Naturally, I was worried and took ages to go back to sleep once I’d warmed him up and established it wasn’t serious.
Photo of new quilt. DGS has approved...
Nothing on again today - cleaning, some sewing, Spanish homework..thoughts and prayers go to the sorrowful, in pain, in difficulties and everyone on this kind thread. Stay safe. X

Good morning everyone from a grey and damp Northampton. Looks very miserable outside.

Thank you to those who reminded me about The Dig which I watched last night and thought it was excellent. Of course it led to me looking at the story of Sutton Hoo on-line, which I found fascinating.

Will be ordering my book club read today; I've seen that is over 300 pages, so I need to get started!

Will now go back and read the thread and may pop back in later. Hope today goes well for all.

What a cheering thread this morning - quilts, calves, new babies and Marydoll’s DGD has evidently inherited the teacher gene - can she do “the look” yet? All in all, a good start to my least favourite month, one which will be particularly unexciting this year.

Laundry of course and bed changing and possibly a little walk if it stays dry. DH’s balance is uncertain at the moment and I am nervous about taking him out in case there is a problem - at 6ft 4inches he is too tall to carry! We’ll see. DH is up and sorted so I can have my shower in peace with luck. Have a good day.

Any chance of baby pics please Sheepandcattle?

brook2704 Mon 01-Feb-21 09:17:02

Congratulations on the birth of your DGS granfromafar you must be so very thrilled. Exciting beautiful times ahead ... ? ????

Grammaretto Mon 01-Feb-21 09:16:27

Good morning from icy Scottish Border country. I am so looking forward to not having to put on 4 layers each morning and that's just in the house!
TBH grandMattie, I was embarrassed. I thought your DH deserved some privacy. grin
Jag, jab, hit or shot (as they say in America) I don't mind as long as I get mine soon.

I am so happy to hear the good news Marydoll. May everything go right from now on for the family.
I also like the way your DGD is teaching you. I must try that with my DGD. So far we have set up a zoom call and she has shown me pictures and crafts she has made. Their internet is not very good terrible in the Highlands so I only catch every other word.

Thanks sheepandcattle for your news from the farm. Why do they calve and lamb so early in the year? You'd think April would be soon enough. Is it to do with the market or the pasture? When we kept geese the first egg was laid on Valentine's day (and hatched 4 weeks later).
A catching up day for me, to finish my knitting and begin another project.

Hope you all have a good day. And what has happened to Michael?

Alygran Mon 01-Feb-21 09:10:53

Good morning from North Yorkshire. It’s bright and sunny so far.
First load of washing on and I will go and strip my bed in a minute. I hope to get it all dry outside.
Then perhaps a walk and some gardening.
Good to hear that the mum-to-be is home and that more people have had their vaccines. Hope all the sore arms are better soon.
Have a good day everyone. Stay safe.

granfromafar Mon 01-Feb-21 09:01:31

Good morning to all from a chilly west Kent. Pleased to say little grandson arrived yesterday and they are well and home! Hope to find out the name soon. Not sure when we'll get a cuddle but will have to make do with photos for now.
Love the quilt, grandMattie.

So pleased to hear your friend's granddaughter is on the road to recovery, Marydol. Holding the family close in thought.

Nannytopsy Mon 01-Feb-21 08:54:25

Good morning grandMattie and all the gang. Best wishes to Mick.
It’s grey and dry here in Suffolk. Today’s excitement is a trip to collect our clicked shopping and then I want to start off some indoor seeds - just the very early ones.
We watched the Dig too - a great film. Basil Brown lived in a village about 4 miles from us it appears.
I hope today is kind to everyone.

Beechnut Mon 01-Feb-21 08:54:22

Prayers.

Beechnut Mon 01-Feb-21 08:53:35

I’m not one for prays but the expectant mum has been on my mind so I’m pleased to hear the better news from Marydoll this morning and wish her well for baby delivery.

Sparklefizz Mon 01-Feb-21 08:49:44

Morning GM, and Mick if you're reading, and all GNs from a very cold South Glos. The temperature really dropped in the night.

Thanks for the smile GM and the new quilt looks gorgeous.

GG13 Sorry to hear about your reaction to meds and hope you can get something sorted.

Pleased to hear the good news Marydoll about your friend's granddaughter. I love Dollie's comment when you tried role reversal with her. I had similar from my grandson who said "Watch and learn, Grandma." That was me told.

Sorry about your bad night NanKate. I made up for lost sleep after my vaccination and slept brilliantly last night, and my arm is now back to normal. If that's the only side effect I am going to have, I'm thrilled.

Sheepandcattle I'm in awe of your hectic farming life yet you still make time to post a colourful description of your new animal babies.

I had a family Zoom yesterday which has set me up for the start of February ... now all I need is a lovely Premium Bond win in the new draw. Today is a Sainsbury's delivery and then I have to sort out my new router.

Have as good a day as possible everyone, and special thoughts to all those who have medical appointments, or who are heavy-hearted. flowers x

Gingster Mon 01-Feb-21 08:49:43

Thankyou Ashcombe that truly is a beautiful hymn. I’ll pass it on to friends who I know will love it. ?

Jaxjacky Mon 01-Feb-21 08:41:52

Cheering news for Monday Marydoll prayers and good thoughts hit their mark. beauregard happy animals now with water and easier for you, good job.
grandMattie where are my manners, very grateful to you for opening the morning shop, I’d be right out of kilter if it was shut ?

YorkLady Mon 01-Feb-21 08:40:57

Good Morning from a frosty West Yorkshire. I could do with an extra grandMattie type quilt to warm me up.
OH had his vaccine too and was a bit overheated during the night..we were up at 3am drinking tea.
We are planning a walk to exercise the creaking bones, then back for a late brunch.
Stay safe all.

grannysyb Mon 01-Feb-21 08:39:11

Good morning all from a grey and chilly Teddington. Going for a dog walk later with a friend, she had a new hip mid December and this will be her first walk with her lovely dog, she wanted me there in case of accidents. Good news about Marydolls friends daughter, hope all goes well for her. Must tidy up later , Zoom book group this evening, rather a depressing tome. Hope everyone has as good a day as possible.

dragonfly46 Mon 01-Feb-21 08:37:58

Good morning it is dry in Leicestershire so hope we can go for our trot round the block.

Great news about your young friend Marydoll

I felt very down yesterday about the injustices here on GN. I do hope some can be rectified.

Urmstongran Mon 01-Feb-21 08:35:03

Good morning everyone from South Manchester where again it’s dry but very cold. 1st February eh?

Last night to plug in my candle bridge, which I have found a comfort (a soft yellow light in the bedroom and it was bought for me by my dear departed mum) thanks to you granMattie telling me about Candlemas! It meant I was able to stop wondering if it was bad luck. I plan to do the same with it every year now.

Monday = down to the larder day, enough for 3 days as Himself goes down to Sainsbury’s again on Thursday. I shall make out a list in a bit.

No plans. Nada. I need to wean myself off this iPad and pick up my Kindle.
#lazygran

Hope Monday is good to us all. Keep safe everyone that’s the main thing. x

Lins1066 Mon 01-Feb-21 08:30:18

Good morning from a dry S Welsh coast, the sky is streaked with blue and pink. We had snow yesterday morning but it has all gone by teatime enabling us to have a short walk.
Laundry to do and maybe some baking that I didn't get around to yesterday.
I will ring my cousin in North Wales later, her dil is a doctor who is researching into the effects of Long Covid.
Thanks for the giggle gM, the quilt is lovely.
Thinking of everyone who is feeling low and for whom life is a struggle.

Nannagarra Mon 01-Feb-21 08:27:47

Good morning from the Sefton coast where we have had a stunning sunrise. Pork with Bramley apple yesterday was yummy. (Sheep’s comment led me to check the pork - yes, it was from Germany. In future I’ll be more observant.)
Very good news Marydoll. Must rush as I’m taking my car in for a service. Have the best day you can everyone. x

brook2704 Mon 01-Feb-21 08:27:08

Such good news about your friends DGD marydoll and hoping all goes well on Friday.

Kalu Mon 01-Feb-21 08:23:42

Good news about mum and baby Marydoll Hope everything goes smoothly for the birth and the happy parents can have a sigh of relief, allowing them to enjoy their new arrival. ??

I like the way you have hung your shelving Jax. A great idea to give an empty corner some life. You must be delighted the kitchen is finally finished.

Greyduster Mon 01-Feb-21 08:21:34

Good morning, all GNs, and Michael, who is missed. It’s bitterly cold in South Yorkshire. We are promised a nice clear day, but will be having an ‘in’ day today as the house needs a clean. We went out yesterday and I couldn’t believe the amount of standing water there is on the fields. Several of our usual footpaths are lakes and impassible. We ended up walking further than we intended to find an alternative route round the flooding. And don’t get me started on the mud! Whatever you’re doing this first day of the month, have a good one.

Litterpicker Mon 01-Feb-21 08:19:08

So many posts while I was composing!
Marydoll so pleased to hear better news of your friend’s granddaughter. Will think of her, especially on Friday.
Beauregard glad you have working tap now and ?s enjoying their grass.
Jaxjacky your kitchen corner shelf arrangement looks lovely. I am jealous as our kitchen is looking shabby!
Sar53 my youngest DD is also v stressed with homeschooling while both she and her DH try to work from home. Toddler who should be at nursery is also home this week as another child in her bubble tested positive for Covid. I’m wondering if I can help at all via Zoom but am not, unlike Marydoll, a trained teacher.

Sheepandcattle Mon 01-Feb-21 08:16:53

Ive just read your post Marydoll - what good news about your friend’s poorly daughter! An excellent start to the new month!
