Good morning all from an overcast E Kent.
Welcome all newbies, don’t forget that to join you need to answer Urmstongran’s questions ?
Yesterday, I treated myself to some lovely Pottery bowls made in Almeria apparently. They’re covered in fish. Fish are rather a love of mine. I love the shape. (I collect fish earrings - now have about 120 pairs...) and before you ask I am allergic to fish and am Aries, so no connection there!
I’m having my vax today - notice the cunning avoidance of the other word. It’s in a shutdown Debenhams, so will take hundreds of vaccinators. Be interesting.
Hope today is gentle with you all. Stay safe. X

Good Morning All x.
Very still outside and a mild 7 degrees compared to yesterday's 2. No snow or anything just dampness after tons of rain. The sun is trying its best to peep out.

I'll be doing my usual Miss Faversham impression and staying put, surrounded by the odd cobweb I notice. Tickling stick at the ready to zap them and that'll be the extent of my exertions.

No such thing as a break on the farm Sheepandcattle, didn't realise how busy it was so early in the year, but you can't hold back nature when all the births are due you really do have to be on the alert. Great updates, thankyou.

I've been buying underwear on Ebay to top-up on my knicker drawer, with a couple more vests. Perhaps if I stop boiling these things they'll last longer.

A Spanish omelette today to use up my peppers etc from a week ago, using a couple of lovely Maran Island eggs, delicious.

How sad to read about our past grans. Makes us all thankful that we're keeping going. A sad time indeed though.

Glad there's improvement with DD Scentia so let's hope there aren't any more blips.

It seems many of us have now been vaccinated, the more the merrier. It will help to keep the wolf from the door when things ease off a bit. Fingers crossed for everyone.

Up to now I haven't heard anything from the annual blood tests I had last week so I'm hoping the phone stays quiet----not that I'm really expecting anything untoward but you're always on pins just the same.

Thoughts to those who aren't so grand and hope better times aren't far away.
Look after yourselves and stay safe.xx

Morning all from a very soggy wet Ashford in Kent! Hasn’t stopped for ages. We have a gutter which needs attention, it sounds like Niagara Falls in our carport! Marydoll I so wish you good health. It’s horrible not being able to do the things we want to, due to feeling yeughy. Dollie will give you a boost.
Yesterday was a red letter day for me! After waiting 6 years, I got my first State Pension payment! I hadn’t heard anything since I applied for it in September so wasn’t quite sure if it would appear in my bank account. Lo and behold 01:30 Tuesday there it was. I haven’t been sleeping very well, that night I was awake 8 times between bedtime at 22:00 and 10:00! Im still very angry that we didn’t get our pensions when we contracted to get them. Ive been a WASPI keyboard warrior for all this time. I only found out about the delay aged 58 - despite the fact that I worked for The Industrial Society which lobbied for good employment practices. Thankfully my DH, who is five years younger, is still working. He was presented with a 10 year long service award yesterday, he was so chuffed! Certificate, badge, gift card and two days extra holiday - it was like school prize day.
Lovely hearing everyones news. Stay safe! I’m away to ponder how to use my pension wisely!

Good morning (just) from the Scottish Borders where it is cold with snow lying but more forecast.
Sorry you took a bad reaction to the vaccine HAZBEEN. I have heard of a few but hopefully it will pass and you will be protected.

Sad to think of all those who have gone NanKate

Scentia my heart goes out to your anxious DD. It should be a happy time with few worries.

I slept badly last night but was awoken by a video call from my DS in NZ which was lovely.

Have as good a day as you can all GMers.

B9exchange Wed 03-Feb-21 11:12:59

Greetings from Hertfordshire, still overcast, but not actually raining today.

Lovely to hear so many of you are getting your vaccs, had mine last week after booking direct through the NHS.uk website as mail here is iffy to say the least. Letter arrived on Monday, then this morning I had a text from the GP surgery. I opened it to find they were offering me a shingles vacc instead (and I have already had one of those!) ?

What are Urms questions? Are they just where we are from and what the weather is like??

Off to collect replacement glasses today as new ones lenses had crazed over after only 10 days. Would be good to be able to thread a needle again. Next GC due min April, DiL has ME, so anxious to help in any way possible by then.

Love to MaryDoll, Scentia, and all those with weighed down with worries. Looking forward to Sheepandcattles next update, your diary would make a wonderful book!

lovebeigecardigans1955 Wed 03-Feb-21 11:10:39

They are lovely grandMattie and are beautiful styles and colours. Don't worry about the cost when it comes to things of beauty.

Urmstongran Wed 03-Feb-21 11:04:27

I will p.m. it to you now amselerin.
?

grandMattie Wed 03-Feb-21 11:04:23

Here they are Ilove. To give an idea of scale, the big bowl has a diameter of about 13”. Hope you approve of my purchase. I haven’t told myself how much they cost yet ?

amselerin Wed 03-Feb-21 10:53:51

Good morning all from a snowcast Lueneburg. I had to clear all the pathways to the house of snow again and more is on the way. Otherwise nothing is planned and so I shall try to make some marmelade (I have got the inspiration from someone who posted about it on here). Also, I should like to make the pork and apple dish which originates from Urmstongran- Pls. let me know. I have mislaid it somewhere.
Wishing you all happiness and may your worries be tiny ones. x

Urmstongran Wed 03-Feb-21 10:52:59

Sorry I missed your post ExD it’s just that we’d like to know the value of your farm. I’m sure you’d be happy to oblige.
???

Urmstongran Wed 03-Feb-21 10:48:34

Not really granfromafar we are quite laid back on here. All we ask is that newbie’s remember to tell us the value of their homes (a lá the Daily Mail). It’s so important that we have this information as I’m sure you’ll agree. You too kw ...
Hi to you both you’re most welcome.
??

A later good morning from S Lanarkshire, took ages to get going this morning. On line funeral mass at 12 o’clock for a lovely lady who has died just short of her 100th birthday. Like baubles’ aunt and many others, in normal times the church would have been packed out.
I too will miss Viridian’s posts and wish her well.
A lot of people having a hard time just now, special good wishes to them today.

Gwenisgreat1 Wed 03-Feb-21 10:45:26

Good Morning from Harrogate, still got that slushy snow on the ground. Had hoped it would be gone this am.
Scentia or Mrs sad pants your reaction to your DD is perfectly normal, and i can understand your DDs concern.
grandMattie -fish!!
Sheepandcattle how nice for you to call one of your new calves after my GS! He's a lovely little boy, but more monkey than calf!! Have to admit, though It's time those Japanese lanterns were made illegal.
Oh dear, Marydoll I do hope you feel stronger soon.

With a heavy heart I am going to have to postpone our break to Llandudno in April, don't think we'll be protected enough.

So sorry to hear of the demise of Sir Tom, the man who inspired the nation!!

Keep well, and keep safe folks.

NanKate Wed 03-Feb-21 10:45:16

Well done NannyJ to your DGD, something to make you smile. ?

Thanks for the tv suggestion Sparklefizz.?

Here’s another who loved The Dig. Another recommendation for Netflix is Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. You need to like blues music to want to watch it. The young musician in the band gave a stellar acting performance, which could win him a posthumous award as he sadly died of colon cancer in September.

ExD Wed 03-Feb-21 10:43:57

Have I missed something? What are Urmstongran's questions?

dragonfly46 Wed 03-Feb-21 10:37:35

Welcome ExD we are a very friendly lot here!

granfromafar Wed 03-Feb-21 10:37:00

Good morning to all from a damp and gloomy west Kent. Are there any other unwritten rules for newbies on this thread, apart from answering Urmstongran's questions? Don't want to upset anyone!
Had to queue for about 45 minutes yesterday, mostly outside, to get my asymptomatic test yesterday. Thankfully it was dry and not too cold. Some lovely army chaps running it who were very helpful. The one who handed me the test asked if I was looking forward to it! Result was sent within 2 hours and was negative, as expected. Not much planned for today.
Hope the headache passes soon, HAZBEEN. It's amazing to get coincidences like those with the doctor and nurse, isn't it?
Have a good a day as possible, everyone.

kathw12 Wed 03-Feb-21 10:34:54

Good morning from an overcast damp Liverpool. Got the energy supplier here fitting a smart meter. Does anyone else like them? Had one fitted at our previous address under duress but found I quite liked being able to see the energy we were using.
Good luck with the vac GM I was quite surprised when DH said he’d read this morning that over 65s (that’s us) will start to receive letters next week asking us to book an appointment for the vac-can’t come soon enough for me! DH is about to start painting the dining room ceiling so I’m keeping out of the way. Have a great day everyone x

Nannagarra Wed 03-Feb-21 10:31:09

Good morning from the Sefton coast where, like yesterday, it is drizzling. Thank you for opening up gM and hope your vax goes well today. The inoculation programme is like a bullet train - tremendous - and gives me hope.
Sending flowers and hugs to those with troubles, worries and concerns. Have the best day you can everyone. x

lovebeigecardigans1955 Wed 03-Feb-21 10:25:23

Morning all from a damp South Notts. It's a case of 'same old, same old' for which in one way I am grateful. Shed a few tears for the lovely Captain Tom - tomorrow is not guaranteed for any of us, is it?
More reading, knitting and telly watching for me today. I have touched the ironing pile, maybe later I'll force myself to do the job.
Come on Grandmattie don't tease we fish lovers on here - show us your dishes.
Hope all is well with everyone, especially those with illness or worries.

ExD Wed 03-Feb-21 10:25:07

Good morning.
I have only just found this delightful page, and reading all your lovely news has quite brightened my day.
I'm a farmer's wife from Cumbria, where its still raining after a very wet night, and this morning its just drizzle and dark and cee, raw.
The recycling boxes are waiting for me to go down to the gate and collect them, a job I've been putting off since yesterday. I really must get into my wet weather gear and make the effort, just so I can refill them ready for next time.
Thats about the only excitement coming my way today I think - isn't life FUN just now?
Its great reading your news and weather reports smile and I look forward to seeing more in the days to come.
Have a Good day everyone - keep smiling.

HAZBEEN Wed 03-Feb-21 10:20:36

Good morning everyone from a damp Heathrow. Just had a Tesco delivery, all put away and neighbours bits delivered by OH.
I dont think I will be doing much today, I have a splitting headache and a very sore arm after my vaccination yesterday. It was so well organised in a community centre and the Doctor who talked to me first about my meds turned out to be from less than a mile from where I was born in Newcastle! He recognised my accent although he didnt have one at all! Then the nurse who did the injection had the same birthdate as me!
Now its time for another cup of tea and read through the papers.
Stay safe all.

hulahoop Wed 03-Feb-21 10:10:46

Good morning from West/York's snow thawing hopefully it will be gone by the end of today .supermarket today its the highlight of the day?be kind to yourselves?to all .

Mapleleaf Wed 03-Feb-21 10:10:03

Good morning all,

At least the snow has just about gone today after heavy rain last evening and through the night. It's still hanging around on the verges and in patches on the grass, but the roads look a lot better.

To all who are taking a break from the GM thread or GN as a whole, I hope you will come back soon, but in the meantime, take care and perhaps have a browse of this thread now and again ?.

Not a lot planned, but need to take a trip to the letterbox and maybe go and collect the prescription, though a wait of a couple of days won't hurt - need to spread out these outings, can't have too much excitement all at once! ?

To all with worries, concerns or ill health, I hope today brings you a little hope.

Take care everyone.

BlueSapphire Wed 03-Feb-21 09:58:36

sheepandcattle, please keep on with your tales of farming life in Wiltshire; I do love hearing about my home county and keep trying to work out where you are. I am Wiltshire born and bred and always used to get a tingle when I approached my home town, the Cherhill downs and the white horse. We used to go down every year for my birthday, but since DH died nearly three years ago I haven't been able to get there. Miss it so much.

GrannyOwl5 Wed 03-Feb-21 09:56:52

Good morning everyone from the north Kent coast. It is raining at the moment; think it’s going to be on and off all day.

Had a quiet day yesterday after my jab on Monday evening. It all ran very smoothly and I was in and out in twenty minutes. My arm was sore yesterday and I felt a bit off colour so made the most of it and languished fetchingly on the settee with my kindle and numerous cups of tea lovingly made by DH?. Feel ok today though - although I can feel a relapse coming on at coffee time ?.

Several worried and concerned DDs today; hope things get better for them all. Hope also that those struggling with illnesses and worries have as good a day as possible. Remember “Tomorrow will be a better day”. Think I will adopt that as my motto!

Stay safe.
