Do you watch too much TV?

I’ve been a tele addict since childhood, when all we had was watch with mother. I’d be at my nans house sat in front of the tv waiting for it to start. Wooden tops, bill and Ben and rag tag and bobtail ???
So, have I been watching too much tv now. No, I love it. ?
If I’m doing my housework then I’ll have music on. Another passion of mine.
But I start with breakfast tv, while I get ready. I don’t like the afternoon programs. News goes on at 6.00 then it will be on till bedtime.
As a family, we are all the same. We have 7 tv’s. We are a house of 4 adults and one child.
I do love reading as well.
I was an only child who had to find my own amusement. All the things I love can be done alone.

Never have tv on in the day even in lockdown, I turn it on at 6oc whilst eating my dinner usually watch until around midnight.

Radio 4 until afternoon when I do watch TV. Britbox had been good & I have seen a lot of very good series on Netflix too. Then back to TV for the evening.

Yes, I definitely watch too much telly. I now start the day with Workout the Wright Way on BBC2 - an exercise routine which is intended for teens but isn't too onerous.
I listen to Ken Bruce on R2 then switch to Classic FM.
At 4pm it's Sky Arts for music programmes which are variable for style and taste, then it's Pointless, next The Chase on plus 1. At 7pm Rick Stein on BBC2 Secret France and at 9-10.30 it's The Investigation.
So, yes I certainly have square eyes and I knit at the same time. But what else is there? I live alone and have very few conversations with real human beings during lockdown.

I don’t know that I watch too much TV, but it is always switched on, even when I am reading, doing housework, etc.

No, we have only 1 television, in the sitting room.

Apart from the odd Sunday afternoon, (to watch a film together) the tv doesn't go on until after 7Pm.

Listen to Radio 4 a lot, some of it good, other bits not so!

Just in case you wanted an alternative...I recently became so disillusioned with much of radio 4 (mainly Woman's hour and the Today Programme), I now switch between BBC World Service and Radio 4 Extra. Which, depends on what I am doing and whether I can pay full attention eg when cooking or ironing R4 Extra for the dramas etc. and if I can only half listen then World Service - although, some of the documentaries deserve full attention. I find the journalists who work on WS are less antagonistic and the stories more balanced. Also a greater variety of news stories from around the world. Sorry if I am teaching egg sucking!

I hold my hands up! I watch far too much tv at the moment as I bubble with my daughter all week and home school my GCs. I don’t have any of my stuff here so I’m under occupied. When I go home on Friday night I’m tired. I usually get some sewing etc done over the weekend.

The weather here has been unpleasant so we’re all stuck indoors and occupying the 6 year old twins is very hard. We’ve done crafts, science experiments, cooking, dancing, Joe Wicks, Cosmic Kids yoga. I can’t wait until the weather gets warmer and we can be outside more.

No, never watch during daytime.

Yes I do, I seem to find plenty to watch on Netflix and prime as well as terrestrial. The tv goes on at around 9am and off at 11pm then again I'm housebound and pretty immobile.

I have it on all day, the same way as some people have the radio on, aural wallpaper.

Most of which I watch is pre-recorded. Apart from the BBC news when I first get up, for about 20 minutes, long enough to get the overnight headlines and the weather forecast, I don't listen to the news at all. I made a conscious decision about not watching it during, I think, the last terror incident in London - the constant repetition of a little news, a lot of speculation and a dash of catastrophizing was genuinely detrimental to my mental health.

Yes, is the simple answer! When I was young I was not allowed much tv so now I can, I do! It goes on when I get up for the news and goes off when I go to bed....then I watch it in bed!!!! I don't watch it all the time but it is on - background noise! I have 4 tv's in the house and have numerous subscriptions for all sorts of tv. Too much - oh, yes!!!! BTW,I do other things - dog walks, cook, crafts but I love my tv!!!(smile)

Definitely, sometimes I've the radio channels on it while I'm cleaning. I like background noise as I live alone and it's company to me. Although sometimes I feel like I'm losing it when I'm shouting at the TV because someone is being an idiot on it. I need to get out more, oh yeah I can't....

We watch quite a bit of tv but we are very selective. We check the evening's programs then save any we want to watch. We can then watch them whenever we like. We are also news addicts and watch most of BBC news whenever it's on. We don't watch tv during the day but having said that I like the Mallorca Files as it reminds us of a couple of holidays we've had there. Silly stuff though, there's always a murder but oddly it's light relief.

People actually watch Pointless? For me the most aptly named TV programme.

We have access to Netflix, Sky, Amazon Prime and of course normal tv. Since I retired from teaching recently and then COVID I’ve watched much more television. There are some really good things on.
I don’t feel guilty. I still read a fair bit usually before bed but prefer to switch off with television. We watch as a family (husband and youngest son who still lives at home) in the evening.
I’m certainly not saying I don’t believe people who say they don’t watch very much but I have met those who won’t admit to the amount or types of programmes they watch.

I turn on Gmb or sky news while having a cup of tea in bed. I end up muting them after about 5 minutes . I catch up with Facebook and local news on the iPad before I get up. I have stopped watching This Morning since Ruth and Eamonn left and I can't stand Holly and Smug or Vine.
There's often a drama at 9.00 or a documentary but I watch very little live Tv. I watch Netflix and I player.

I gave up TV for 15 years and now I am in. household again with a TV and I find it so noisy! It’s a relief to have it turned off! I must admit, I do enjoy Ben Fogle though!

Yes definitely but I also listen to Radio 4 whilst crafting and do read although it tends to send me to sleep. I mainly watch documentaries/factual programmes. Shielding and living alone mean the tv/radio are often the only human voices I hear for days on end

We watch very little tv really. We do watch Neighbours every day over teatime, but otherwise rarely watch any telly during the week. At weekends we watch something on Netflix, just Sat and Sun evenings, from about 8.30 to 10.30. That's pretty much it. Never during the day at all.

We record programes we might like after a perusal of the weekend TV guide. There have been several good dramas recently; also some interesting programmes about life on and around the Thames, so we might have watched a little more than usual. The news is the only live TV we watch - and I have stopped doing that as I am sick of the constant repetition of bad news. Probably too much watching - but reading, emailing, gardening, walking, DIY, zooms etc. can only fill up so much time!

My late husband had the television on morning noon and night. After he died I hardly ever had it on - maybe three or four times a year? Since the second lockdown it's been on a little more - for a film or part of a series, twice a week.

So no, I don't watch too much television. I do however spend much too long with computer screens!

No! TV is awful, nothing worth watching. Read or listen to audio book. Anything but TV.

I would say I watch tv around 15 hrs a week! I don’t think that’s too much, not for me anyway

Dh and i watch the old episodes of coronation street from the 90s,then tipping point followed by the chase,,never do morning tv, watch a film probably once a fortnight and that`s pretty much it.
