Gets really 'good' at about 4 minutes.

WHY did they publish it?!

No one takes a lot of notice of councillors here . They have very little real power. The work is all done by the actual people who work in the local council as paid employees. The councillors are just the ones who go to presentations etc and speak on behalf of the workers. That sort of garbage doesn’t happen in our local area, couldn’t speak for the rest of the country though. There are rules where you cannot have more than one person in a particular family and they have elections where they have to state all their interests beforehand. They are not allowed to take part in any debate where they have a vested interest and they legally have to declare the interest.

Jackie Weaver's job description is
Chief Officer of Local Councils.

EllanVannin Fri 05-Feb-21 22:36:01

Imagine being married to one of those men. I'd have murdered it before now grin

Shandy57 Fri 05-Feb-21 22:33:43

An appalling demonstration of 'me, me'. I attended a parish council here once and unfortunately this behaviour isn't unusual. Too parochial, too driven by their own self importance, and unfortunately, their behaviour shows that being older doesn't always make you wiser.

Callistemon Fri 05-Feb-21 22:30:14

The less power they have, the more they wish to wield it, I suppose.
If they actually got around to any actual business.

Chewbacca Fri 05-Feb-21 22:23:46

To be honest Callistemon this kind of infighting, immature behaviour and decidedly questionable decisions seems to be a pre requisite for CEC. The poor souls who pay their council tax to support them and keep them in their jobs (that's when they haven't been put on "garden leave" with full pay for a year or more whilst "investigations are made") are rather wearied by it now and are unsurprised by any new revelations. angry

Callistemon Fri 05-Feb-21 22:15:16

Ok, understood now.
From watching it we thought she was the Clerk of the Parish Council ousting the Chairman.

I still wonder if should have been publicised like that.

annodomini Fri 05-Feb-21 22:07:35

Local elections are due in Cheshire in May. Some people may have to make a big effort to retain their Parish Council seats.

Chewbacca Fri 05-Feb-21 21:58:32

The inherent culture of bullying, and questionable decisions made by CEC, was actually referred to in that video and is well known both locally and nationally. CEC are an absolute disgrace.

GagaJo Fri 05-Feb-21 21:54:38

My god. If I dared to behave that way in a meeting, I would be sacked.

Chewbacca Fri 05-Feb-21 21:42:43

Lets hope the chair, the vice chair and whoever the bloke in the video with the vice chair was are no longer on the council.

They will be GagaJo, I can assure you. Sadly this kind of behaviour isn't unusual across Cheshire East Council and is simply the latest display of unprofessional and inappropriate behaviour here.

janeainsworth Fri 05-Feb-21 21:40:39

Callistemon Jackie Weaver....Isn’t she the Clerk? If so, she had no authority whatsoever and could not dismiss the Chairman and Vice-Chairman as she did

No, she was brought in to oversee the meeting. The link I put on page 1 explains the legality of it.

SueDonim Fri 05-Feb-21 21:32:59

I don’t think Jackie Weaver did publicise the meeting. It seems to have come from this young man. www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-55955288

GagaJo Fri 05-Feb-21 21:18:40

Weaver – employed not by Handforth parish council but the Cheshire Association of Local Councils, was parachuted in to run the meeting amid accusations of poor behaviour by councillors. They proved the need for her by their boorish behaviour.

Lets hope the chair, the vice chair and whoever the bloke in the video with the vice chair was are no longer on the council.

Urmstongran

The village idiot competition is going to be tight.

hahahahahahahaha. Nailed it!

Callistemon Fri 05-Feb-21 20:54:40

I won't disagree that they were all hopeless!

Chewbacca Fri 05-Feb-21 20:13:33

I live in the next parish to Handforth and like so many other parish council meetings within Cheshire East, it was just another debacle. Cheshire East is famous for its explosive meetings and highly questionable decisions. sad Jackie Weaver had her work cut out from the outset and handled the men-children brilliantly.

GoldenLady Fri 05-Feb-21 20:12:33

If someone had set this to music, it could have been right out of Gilbert and Sullivan!

Callistemon Fri 05-Feb-21 20:08:49

Oh, she wasn't unpleasant in the meeting but she had no authority to dismiss the Chairman.
Sending it viral was unpleasant and she is obviously enjoying the limelight, that is what is unpleasant.

Galaxy Fri 05-Feb-21 20:05:21

She wasnt the unpleasant one in those discussions. I was also quite concerned for whoever lived with one of the men. He was very aggressive towards them.

Callistemon Fri 05-Feb-21 20:00:31

Jackie Weaver would fit in fine on my committees

Isn't she the Clerk?

If so, she had no authority whatsoever and could not dismiss the Chairman and Vice-Chairman as she did.

I just saw her on the news and thought she looked inordinately pleased with herself. A thoroughly unpleasant woman I thought.
For her to publicise this confirms my view.

SueDonim Fri 05-Feb-21 19:51:08

PamelaJ1

SueDonim off thread but it wasn’t the Grange school was it?

No, it wasn’t. Grange was a rival, though!

ginny Fri 05-Feb-21 19:46:13

I didn’t find it hilarious, in fact it seemed more horrific to me.
Sadly our own town council had similar problems not so long ago.
The people who should be on these committees are unfortunately put off by this sort of behaviour.

Oopsadaisy1 Fri 05-Feb-21 18:55:27

Anyone who lives in the Village can stand for Parish Council Elections.
If you attend the PC Meetings you can also have your say and if enough people stand up and make their voices heard it can and should make a difference.
When I was on the Parish Council we usually had between 4 and 6 Villagers who came along out of a village of 200 adults that’s pretty shocking.

Iam64 Fri 05-Feb-21 18:52:11

Well said grannysctivist

Cornishpasty, I find I have little sympathy for men who lose control, shout in fact scream, at a woman brought in specifically to try and reduce that kind of bullying behaviour. It’s ‘gone viral’ - here’s hoping that may encourage some people to reflect on the way they present themselves. The awful behaviour of a couple of those men needed calling out. Well done Jackue
