Hilarious parish council zoom meeting

Many of us have spent the past year in endless zoom meetings of all types, I have never behaved in such an aggressive threatening way or seen other people behave in this way. The last thing services need is volunteers who behave in threatening aggressive way.

I have recently been co-opted onto my local town council and we have all laughed at this. Fortunately, although there are tensions at some meetings, our council is very well mannered. I could not work with those gentlemen and yes I am being polite!!

Lizbethann55, then those men should have behaved themselves. It was three men behaving like the boorish bullies they clearly are. One other man presented himself appropriately so hasn’t been seen in a poor light.
People who behave so badly, especially in a formal meeting should apologise and reflect on their behaviour. I understand from news reports, that isn’t the case here.

When I consider some meetings I've had to chair, I think it would have been lovely to have been able to switch certain people off!

Then they need to understand that actions have consequences. Act like a bullying, overbearing boor and expect to be laughed at and scorned.

I agree Chewbacca, there is absolutely no excuse to ever behave in such an aggressive and dismissive way to other people, whatever the circumstances.

It was 'published by someone who apparently watches them for interest as he wants to go into politics - this one would stand him in good stead for Parliament.

I'm a Parish Councillor and our meetings are nearly as 'exciting'!!!

Take my hat off to her. The men concerned are out and out bullies. Hopefully they will be suitably embarrassed looking at themselves. Well done Jackie.

Lizbethann55 Parish Council Meetings are in normal times open to the public, in light of the present situation they are videoed so available for public view, similarly the minutes, so all can be seen to be above board.

Sorry meant to say, the data is in the public domain, although normally on the Parish website, wouldn’t be surprised to see others, not necessarily this Council go viral.

In my professional life I have had to minute meetings far worse than this - and of course I just had to keep my head down and keep on writing whilst forcing myself not to laugh or look horrified. Happy days!

Lizbethann55 I think they did ask for it in that they cannot be ignorant of their own behaviour and chose to be arrogant and bullying in the full knowledge that as things stand anyone can upload anything on YouTube. Previous meetings had been uploaded there. Everyone should be accountable for their own behaviour and be aware that like it or not the court of public opinion will judge them if they show themselves up in the public domain. They deserve everything they got.

The men concerned were arrogant and bullying and they deserve the derision they are getting.

I've sat in on many meetings like this., Vast majority men, They all talk/shout to each other in a similar way, Haven't we supposed to have reached the point where we talk to men and women talk the same? No doubt had they pulled her chair out for her that would have been deemed sexit.

In your view it’s ok for men to behave like bullies. These men weren’t ‘talking/shouting’ at each other. They were attempting to disrupt and prevent an official, sent in to restore order, from doing her job.

What nonsense to suggest that pulling her chair out, that would have been deemed sexist. The fact you found them ‘hilarious’ is worrying. It’s not unknown for mEn who demonstrate that level of anger, need to control in their public lives to show even less restraint in the privacy of their own homes.

I did not find it "hilarious" at all. I immediately wondered what it would be like to be married to a man as aggressive and bullying and arrogant ..... and then remembered that once upon a time I had been, and how relieved I was to divorce him and get away.

We've only got to look to the House of Commons to see exactly how rude people can get in meetings funded by the tax payer, even when they know they are on national TV.

One of the men was very abusive to someone who lived in the house with them and was out of view of the camera. I think you are right to wonder sparklefizz.

I think that's an interesting question and quite complex. Every time I see Jackie eject them from the meeting I smile. I think personally I enjoyed a woman triumphing over aggressive behaviour. Although enjoyed is an odd word to use I suppose. And there is the thought of what would have happened if it was a real life meeting.

Perhaps there is an argument for meetings remaining on zoom.

Men and women behave in a similar fashion.

All over the country you will have these sorts of meetings where people want to shout their point. On zoom and in rl meetings

They talk over each other.

We are human. Not everyone agrees. This thread is a case in point.

As an aside I have lost count of the amount of times women have taken umbrage at men pulling a chair our or standing when a female enters the room.

We are not robots. Thank goodness.
