Good morning from a cold Black Country

It is MrJans 70th today, so have been busy opening cards, presents and phone calls. Sad we cannot celebrate as planned but cooking lovely 3 course meal tonight, with ingredients from a restaurant in Bristol his DD's had organised.

Will read all your posts later

Wishing you all a good day

Niochorio Sun 07-Feb-21 10:05:12

Good morning one and all from a chilly North Wales where my phone tells me that although the temperature is 2 degrees, the wind chill makes it a bracing -3 degrees so I will have to wrap up well when I go for my walk later. Roast pork with lots of veggies, stuffing and Yorkshire puddings cooked for me by my lovely husband will be thoroughly enjoyed later on. Can anyone tell me where I can find the infamous SOAP recipe everyone is talking about?
As for the rest of today’s activities they will probably involve making some scones, some reading, washing and later this evening some more work on my tapestry while I watch tv. I am now also inspired to knit some wrist warmers for the wonderful mental health charity set up by the lovely Dr Alex and his family. They are rather short on supplies at the moment and I have lots of wool in my stash. These terrible times are affecting the mental health of all ages at the moment.
Sending virtual hugs and ?? to all who are sad and suffering today and the hope that tomorrow will be a better day.

Mick this cold snap isn't good for " hearty " people. Some takeaways will deliver to save you venturing out and also if you contact your surgery, repeat prescriptions can be arranged with your local pharmacy to deliver.
Perhaps a grocery delivery too to save going out ?
As Mary said, it's to protect yourself as well as others especially now that you're maskless.

EV, I watch them when I can't sleep. I came across them by accident.

Let's set the scene.
BIG Boss
New, stunning, PA
BIG Boss secretly in love with PA
PA secretly in love with BIG Boss
Business dinner
PA has accident, spills wine or something on clothes
BIG Boss lives in penthouse appartment
BIG Boss takes PA to appartment, which is conveniently close at hand, to clean up.
Too late to go home, PA sleeps in spare room.
BIG boss in his own room, full of more angst
Misunderstanding
Disagreement
PA leaves
Big Boss can't tell her how he feels
Angst all round
Tension in office
PA leaves and runs away (they always run away to escape the situation) to London
BIG Boss finds out where she is and goes to London to look for her
BIG Boss eventually reveals feelings
Happy ending.

Simple really!

???????????7️⃣0️⃣? MrJans
Have a lovely Birthday!

Stilllearning Sun 07-Feb-21 10:17:24

Morning from S Lanarkshire, very still but slight attempts at snowing going on. I do hope it comes to nothing.
I got organised early this morning and got to my local supermarket just after 8.30, only a few other intrepid shoppers and I managed to get a decent top up shop although I’ve just remembered I didn’t get custard which I have developed a strange longing for!
My weekly trip to mass in Ireland soon and then a good read of our U3A zoom book club choice. It’s a strange book but I’m enjoying it more than I thought I would, Warlight by Michael Ondaatche.
I was feeling sad for Nancy too Sheepandcattle, glad things have sorted themselves out!
Wishing everyone the best Sunday possible.

Jaxjacky Sun 07-Feb-21 10:18:45

Happy Birthday MrJans have a spoilt day ???. Marydoll no wonder you have restless nights, how obscure, if I had a vaccine date I would transfer it to you, so dispiriting.
Grandmafrench Chase the vaccination slot seems a daily challenge for our friends in France too, a couple grasped this holy grail only to have it cancelled the day before, hopefully it’ll improve.

Grandmafrench Sun 07-Feb-21 10:19:01

Niochorio (Newhouse?). You can ask Urmstongran for her delicious recipe, or if not PM me as I’ve made it - and it’s not only delicious, it’s also very simple to do. Wonderful in these times where we’re all so short of time! ? Enjoy your walk.

Mary what an original storyline....who’d have thought? x

Gwenisgreat1 Sun 07-Feb-21 10:21:06

Good Morning all from slightly white Harrogate (we did have a bit of a flurry).
So glad "sheepandcattle" that your little drama has ended well.
Marydoll you seem brighter this morning? I take that back having heard your 2nd rant!!! The vaccines go purely by age! I fully expected to have mine with DH who is 80. My concession was having it locally instead of having to travel 18 miles!!
This am I will have to make a load of pastry to freeze, probably do it while listening and watching the church service (if only they knew!!). Sadly our minister has retired so will will have someone new to stand in.

This pm, will try to do some catchup on TV - depends on the signal we get! Watched "The drowning" it was so good, can recommend anyone to watch it on catch-up!
If that fails, will probably finish a painting!

EllanVannin Sun 07-Feb-21 10:22:38

Honestly Mary, you're a caution----hilarious. It's as clear as mud grin You'll have to wean yourself off them. Try the Bollywood films instead.

Taichinan Sun 07-Feb-21 10:23:06

Good morning to Mick and all, and a big hug of understanding for Marydoll. It's trying its hardest to snow on the Angus coast, but hasn't managed anything meaningful as yet. As I don't intend going anywhere at all this week it's just an academic interest of course - although it would be a change of scene!
Lovely to hear that Nelly and Dumpy Bag (what an intriguing name!!) have bonded. It was so heart-breaking to think of Nelly seeking her calf. I hope the last five arrive without drama and you can take a deep breath and relax. Happy Birthday to your DGD - such a shame you can't be with her.
I'm with you Elan, my dashing days are few and far between just now - although I hazard a guess that a warm sunny day or two will see them return. We had one day (Monday 25th January to be exact, and I've no idea why I remember that!) when the wind died down and the sun shone and I suddenly felt a million dollars. I just have to trust that that will happen again!
Nothing to report from the blacksmith's cottage so I shall depart. Sending love and hope to those unwell or despondent. ??

Urmstongran Sun 07-Feb-21 10:23:58

I will p.m. you (or anyone else interested) with my SOAP dish Niochorio. It’s very simple to ‘assemble’ it’s not even fair to call it a recipe! It stands for Sage Onion Apple and Pork.
?

gillgran Sun 07-Feb-21 10:28:30

Good Morning to you all from dry, cold & windy Cambs.,
No snow this far over, looking at the weather forecast, it seems that Essex, Suffolk & Norfolk will get it. (that means our little "home-from-home" on the NW Norfolk coast will get a pasting). let me know, all you lovely people there, I miss news from Nfkd & other good folk from the area.

Mick, do look after yourself, Marydoll & the rest of us have your welfare at heart.

Take Care Folk.

EllanVannin Sun 07-Feb-21 10:28:48

A Very Happy 70th Birthday to MrJans winewine and more wine. Enjoy the day both of you. xx

Grandmabatty Sun 07-Feb-21 10:29:06

So the Tesco delivery I was expecting isn't actually due til 21st February. Oops. A quick trip to Aldi after all. The chicken is roasting and the leek soup is bubbling. What a numpty.

Beechnut Sun 07-Feb-21 10:31:13

Wishing MrJan a Happy 70th Birthday ??

Greyduster Sun 07-Feb-21 10:32:43

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. I think this is the latest I have ever come onto this thread! An up and down sort of night so DH left me to sleep. It’s freezing here in South Yorkshire but all the snow we had coming down in huge flakes last night about ten o’clock had all gone by about two and hasn’t returned - yet! It was very pretty but I don’t want it back!
Sheepandcattle glad the cow and calf have bonded. Do you have to hand it back when it’s weaned?
Happy birthday to MrJan?. Nothing much going on here today. Pork chops for lunch. Take care everyone.

Marydoll Sun 07-Feb-21 10:40:36

Gwen, I an extremely clinically vulnerable and am in the same group as the over seventies. I was promised by my clinician, that I should have had it by now.
For some reason they have now moved onto the 60yr olds in our area, without vaccinating all the over 70s. My DH has had it. There appears to be no plan in place. That's why I am annoyed and demoralised.

GrannyOwl5 Sun 07-Feb-21 10:41:29

Morning everyone from north Kent where it is snowing; not the big fat fluffy flakes, but those grain-like flakes. Still, it’s settling so expect the sledges and tea trays will appear later!

Happy 70th birthday MrJans! ??????. Hope you have a great day.

Love the film synopsis Marydoll I was breathless with anticipation whilst reading it! No wonder you have difficulties getting to sleep after watching them.

Lots of lovely meals being prepared for today. Not sure what I’m having as DH is chief cook and he likes the meal to be a surprise - in a good way I hasten to add!

Hope those with illnesses and worries have as good a day as possible. A day to be staying in the warm. Stay safe

Annapops Sun 07-Feb-21 10:56:21

Good morning from a freezing cold County Durham where very fine snow is presently falling. It's so dull and grey out there that I have mixed feelings about venturing out for a walk later today.

Beef in the slow cooker for later, a little washing and bed linen change then I shall sit and pick up my knitting needles once more. I am in the process of knitting bobbles with fur wool, something completely new to me.

Yesterday we took a very short drive in the new car which has been standing in the drive all week. Off we want to our local botanical gardens which we heard had reopened after a year of closure, only to discover they are open weekdays only. However, our journey wasn't wasted, after a lot of faff we did manage to get the Bluetooth working and phone connected so we now have music to drive to.

Thinking of Georgesgran and others who have troubles and worries and I do hope you receive your vaccine soon Marydoll.

Try to have the best day you can everyone.

CherryCezzy Sun 07-Feb-21 11:05:30

Good morning all. There's a lovely blue sky with big fluffy white clouds in the Gower today. It's a chilly 4°c, feels like 0°c, but the birds are enjoying themselves.

I haven't really read anyone's posts properly yet, I had those dratted ? seizures in the night ? . I fell out of bed again ? and goodness knows why but in my postictal confused state frantically unplugged the bedside lamp and clock. In my confusion I feared getting tangled up in the leads I think ?. Then I got back into bed only to discover my duvet was actually on the floor confused. One of these days I'll set up a video camera so I can record and play these antics back ?

Happy birthday to your 3 year old DGC Sheepandcattle ? and to your DH NannyJan ???

Take care one and all, stay safe ❤️

Anniebach Sun 07-Feb-21 11:05:48

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

cornergran Sun 07-Feb-21 11:07:20

A very late good morning from a sunny corner of Somerset. It seems I slept for 11 hours - how did I do that? Unheard of. The Butler is off to bring me some breakfast I do know how lucky I am. I think a walk will be called for then a bit of tidying, it’s apparently very cold outside, dormouse here has no idea yet. A very happy birthday to mr jans. Your lack of vaccination is a scandal marydoll , I’d like to add my voice to your plea to mick, please try a visor, not perfect but safer than nothing at all. Take care everyone.

Dwmxwg Sun 07-Feb-21 11:14:55

Marydoll sounds like Chinese Mills & Boon ?

Megs36 Sun 07-Feb-21 11:15:49

Good morning all, I wonder how many like me can never remember what day it is ?? I read the posts most days but only very occasionally post myself, anyway I’ve just noticed the date which made me think. Two years ago this week I had a stroke, MCA, and recovered alright except my sight was affected, andmy confidence, so couldn’t drive any more, this proved a problem on and off for months for both of us because a few weeks later my husband had a pneumothorax followed by pleurodesis. He hasCOPD following treatment a few years earlier for lung cancer, so worrying to put it mildly, took a while to recover so dependent on friends and family, not near. Then came a week in hospital with pneumonia at the beginning of the pandemic, he of course has been shielded now for most of a year. As we came in the early batch of vaccinations because of our age , we are now approaching a time when we feel we can actually speak to people outside the door ! but not seen son since Christmas Eve ,thank heavens for.WhatsApp .and online deliveries. I wonder if I’ll ever have the confidence to go in a shop again?.
Sorry for boring post but felt the need to unload, if just to strangers. Thanks for listening /reading. I know I’m not alone with so many problems and also disappointments in the last year , let’s hope the New Normal is coming soon!!!!!
