Illegal migrants’ amnesty vaccine.

1.3 million illegal migrants in the UK are being urged by the government to register with a GP and get the Covid vaccination - and the Home Office will ‘take no action’ if they comply.

I dare say the main role of any Government is to protect its legal citizens, therefore on the one hand this is laudable however 1.3 million people here with ‘backgrounds unknown’ is shocking. That’s 1:70 people living here! Who knew?

You are trying to shut down free speech because you do not like the subject that is being discussed.

Hooray! I win the prize for spotting the first mention of shutting down free speech!! grin

Alegrias1 I agree, my explanation was somewhat clumsy.

Blatant intentional racism is totally unacceptable.

I do think the lazy use of language can for some be confusing (no slurs intended)

Many West Indian people, and others, suffer from sickle cell anaemia which as you know is a blood thickening disorder - a good enough reason to question whether the vaccine is right for them I would have thought.

Agree Alegrias1

The English language and the correct usage of is constantly evolving, just because a phrase which has been in constant use suddenly becomes unacceptable is used by someone who is unaware of this does not automatically make the user racist.

Nobody on here called the users of the word "illegal" racist, as far as I can see? Just rather behind the times and insulting. And unwilling to accept being told that the world has moved on.

The racism later on was much more blatant.

Why doesn't everyone just stick to the topic of whether everyone in the country should be vaccinated, irrespective of their immigration status, instead of trying to make a big thing of being asked not to insult people?

Eeerh because the title of the thread is Illegal migrants' amnesty vaccine and that's what we are discussing.

You are trying to shut down free speech because you do not like the subject that is being discussed.

Is that all you've got to say, Riverwalk ? The post wasn't about me !

Yes, I did hover about receiving a vaccination simply because I didn't want anything upsetting my blood-clotting levels.
Since it's been reported that someone died after their vaccination because of a blood clotting problem obviously put me off having a second dose.

No, it's not all I've got to say.

So you are allowed to have your misgivings about vaccination, for good reason, but BAME people are not allowed their misgivings? They equally may have good reason.

Now Riverwalk let's see how you feel about the 50% refusal !

Firecracker123 Tue 09-Feb-21 13:26:05

Political Correctness gone mad, people won't be able to open their mouth soon without fear of offending someone. Or someone getting the race card out.

Oh, please don't delete this thread - let it stand in all its glory!

AmberSpyglass Tue 09-Feb-21 13:23:12

JenniferEccles Yes. Because it’s racist. Frankly ‘illegal immigrants’ isn’t much better, but ‘illegals’ is downright disgusting.

Can we please, PLEASE get this thread pulled GNHQ?

Riverwalk Tue 09-Feb-21 13:22:05

For the far right wingers on here - with your liking for small government and entrepreneurship are you not just a teensy bit in admiration of 'economic migrants' (don't know why that's a pejorative) who risk life and limb to come here from half way across the world to earn a living?

They may do it illegally, and I'm as much a tax-payer as anyone else, but some of our young fit men could learn a lesson from them, instead of sitting on their backsides in deprived areas, so lacking in drive to even move to the next town for a job.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 09-Feb-21 13:21:33

This thread allows those who are so good at dog whistle racism a free reign.

It needs withdrawing.

JenniferEccles Tue 09-Feb-21 13:19:32

So just to clarify’ illegals’ is for some silly reason not permitted, but presumably we are still ‘allowed’ to say illegal immigrants? Therefore it’s just the shortened version which is now verboten? Is that correct?
Ye gods.

Riverwalk Tue 09-Feb-21 13:14:57

EllanVannin

It's the BAME society in this country who are going to let us down. Won't it cause hostile behaviour ? Of course it will !

Er, pot calling the kettle here?

You said on another thread that you were reluctant to have the first dose and will refuse the second.

Or am I confused and mixing you up with someone else?

There are words in the dictionary that, if I used them on here, I'd get a well-deserved ban. Being in a dictionary doesn't make it acceptable usage.

Urmstongran Tue 09-Feb-21 13:07:28

Thank you Firecracker123.
Nice and clear validation there. No upset at all to anyone. Just factual.

We mustn’t shorthand and say ‘illegals’ as that’s derogatory.
I accept that.

Illegal migrants is fine.

Urmstongran Tue 09-Feb-21 13:04:43

Well if half of BAME community in Birmingham have refused EV I’m not sure why the government are trying so hard to ask illegal migrants to come forward as their percentage is so much less?

Unless of course the government are being disingenuous and have an ulterior motive?

I think if they are waiting for asylum status GG13 the government will already know about them as their name & contact details will be in the system.

EllanVannin Tue 09-Feb-21 13:01:22

50% of Asian and African/Caribbean in Birmingham refused.
