Some news about our H o S
RF family want their 1969 documentary to be taken off air. The Queen was talking in it about a governor that looked like a gorilla, in one little clip, of docu seen on twitter.

Queen doesn't want her various shares and their values in companies made public too embarrassing. And lobbied in the 70s to be made exempt from new law. She has millions in off shore accounts.

P Charles land owner lobbied to be exempt from new leaseholder legislation that would have allowed homeowners to buy the land their property sits on.

And when people from the Duchy die with no living relatives P Charles gets the money, with other landowners around the country money goes to the treasury

Then there is Andrew

The 20,000 Sandringham Estate gets millions in subsidies

Queen gets her Wendy house refurbished to her own specifications including a new thatched roof.

Meanwhile in other news a little boy stole a tin of soup because he was so hungry, never mind.

I really feel its time for Harry to stop harping on about his mother. Of course it was a tragic way to die and so difficult for her sons to deal with at a young age. However time has passed and Harry needs to grieve more privately and not use his mother's death to gain sympathy.

Which papers were racist , which paper asked ‘how dare a black woman infiltrate our monarchy ? I can’t find anything on any newspaper which printed this

GagaJo Tue 02-Mar-21 09:08:45

The British press is known for being particularly vitriolic. And yes, there was a lot of racism in the reporting about MM. How DARE a black woman infiltrate our Monarchy and then even more shocking, DARE not to be eternally grateful enough to put up and shut up, with the treatment she got. Diana was of course also horribly treated. The difference was, she was a very vulnerable teenager. MM was an adult AND had a husband to support her.

I still don't really understand the furore about them leaving.

Anniebach Tue 02-Mar-21 08:48:43

To escape racism !

Galaxy Tue 02-Mar-21 08:37:29

Yes they chose to live in America as millions of people do.

Anniebach Tue 02-Mar-21 08:14:49

There was racism in the U.K. so they chose to live in America !

Galaxy Tue 02-Mar-21 08:03:36

Of course there was racism the headline that someone reproduced on the other thread was racist. We can pretend it wasnt if we want but what is the point.

Lynn1959 It's ok to support the RF there though there are genuine valid reasons to criticism monarchy

The fact that RF don't work hard they hardly work at all. All their days out are paid for by local councils.

There don't have an effect on to tourism look at Visit Britain

An in depth report has been compiled by Giving Evidence proving that charities don't benefit from royal patronage
74% don't get any visits.

The RF only visit the charities that they've set up themselves those they have a personal interest in, all nearby where they live.

The queen doesn't concern herself with our constitution though gets all the benefit and privilege of the job.

The RF are secretive above the law and have exempted themselves from the freedom of information act.

It's good that Harry has set up the charities you mentioned. He can still be of service to good causes as can anyone else.

The RF spend public money day in day out nothing is ever said about this. We could do a lot better and for less.

When Charles becomes King, Camilla should be Queen.

I think calling her ‘Princess Consort’ would just sound daft.

The only reason she isn’t known as Princess of Wales, which of course she is, is in respect to Diana, which is why they decided on Duchess of Cornwall, seeing as Charles is also Duke of Cornwall.

But C&C married back in 2005. A lot of water has flowed under the royal bridge since then, I bet Charles has every intention of making Camilla his Queen, despite what was said back then.

Plus by then there will be a new Princess of Wales, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.

I noticed too that the racist card is being played giving another reason why they left this country. Do they honestly think we're thick enough to swallow that too ? It's honestly nothing short of farcical now all because they wanted to go their own way.

It’s not a racism card

There was a lot of racism, whether people here admit it or not.

That’s certainly not to say there isn’t in America, I don’t think they ever said that.

However the major papers certainly are not treating her as she was in the UK.

Likely as she’s just not that important in America

Why can't Camilla just be given the title of Queen? Just as Elizabeth Bowes Lyon was, and Princess Mary of Teck, and all the others who married men who became Kings?

I believe It had to do with Diana backlash. There was so much terrible publicity.

Gosh doesn’t that feel like two lifetimes ago?

Oprah is different because they are getting paid for it.

Are they?
It’s always Been my understanding that you do not get paid to go on Oprah. If anything it’s seen as an honour.

I’ve seen no press stating they are being paid.

Just that the production company (Oprah’s) is in for a huge pay day

All the wives of Kings since Victoria have been crowned Queen in the Coronation ceremony: Alexandra, Mary and Elizabeth (the Queen mother). Elizabeth 11 was crowned Queen in her own right. When Charles and Camilla married she did not take the title of Princess of Wales and at the time I believe it was stated she would not become Queen. Clarence House have stated that she would be known as Princess Consort and not take the title of Queen, I think more a sop to public sensibility than for any constitutional reason. After the havoc Harry is attempting to wreak on the royal family I doubt if it will be that important.

Indeed * Smileless*, it's called not having a backbone.

I certainly don't like their way of making money that's for sure

Despite my view of the monarchy, I did find the Queen's comment tonight on her new statue in Adelaide quite funny. On seeing how good the likeness was, she said It must be quite alarming to suddenly see it out of the window - you'd think, gracious, has she arrived unexpectedly?

Alegrias1 Mon 01-Mar-21 21:24:25

Thank you Anniebach.

Anniebach Mon 01-Mar-21 21:12:42

The queen mother was queen consort, if Camilla was to be queen consort she would be called queen Camilla

Alegrias1 Mon 01-Mar-21 20:49:19

I think Camilla should be queen consort,

NellG Mon 01-Mar-21 20:30:37

Very good point EV

It's all becoming quite unsavoury.

Urmstongran Mon 01-Mar-21 20:20:22

Good point EV.
This continual playing the victim card is wearing a bit thin now.

Long term I’m not sure how well (much money) they will make in America. Many Americans just aren’t interested. Apparently a photo of Harry was shown to people in the street and the vast majority didn’t recognise nor know who he was. This is going to need some tremendous PR work to generate some interest.

grandMattie Mon 01-Mar-21 20:19:45

Also Diana was barely in her 20s and naive, not something one could accuse 38 y.o. Meghan of!

Ellianne Mon 01-Mar-21 20:18:18

I can't understand why Harry compares Meghan's plight with that of Diana. It is nowhere near the same. Diana was destined to become Queen (until the divorce) and Diana was the mother of a future heir. Meghan is not in the same league.

Smileless2012 Mon 01-Mar-21 20:15:32

I think it's already been decided by Charles and Camilla that although she's entitled to the title, she wont be taking it.
