My Mum used to say a lot of things but a couple I remember particularly are
‘You’re a long time dead’ i.e. enjoy yourself whilst you can and
‘If you can’t say anything good about someone, don’t say anything at all’
Pretty cluey some of the older ones .

Thought of a couple more, 'it' s as straight as a dog's hind leg' if something was wonky. Often used in regards to my attempts at hemming!
'Sing before breakfast, cry before night', I'm not sure if this was just superstition or to try and keep us quiet in the morning.

Mum had a lot of the usual sayings

And if we wanted this that anything she would say

Well want will be your master.

Mum would say, I could sit on that bottom lip, to my youngest sister when she threw a strop.
You're laughing now, you'll be crying in a minute.
If we were messing around when little, Mum would say, It'll all end in tears-and it usually did!
They can talk the hind leg off a donkey.
You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Such a good thread, bringing back lovely memories of my dear Mum.

There’s a lid for every pot (about those looking for love)
In and out like a bluearsed fly.
Backside like a bus horse.
Blue and green should never be seen without another colour between. (That’s a nuisance as even with a pile of washing, I have to put something between green and blue clothes etc.)

My mother had a screed of them.

Sure a blind man on a galloping horse wouldn’t notice.

I’m going to run away with a soldier (if she was at the end of her tether).

Don’t look at me in that tone of voice.

There’s not a sinner on the street today.

You have my heart roasted.

I didn’t come down in the last shower.

I can hear them to this day.

"I'll bang your heads together, you two."

And the cause for any illness or problem "Talking too much". With our GDS with us a few days a week, I know what she meant. He doesn't stop from the minute he gets here.

Whoops DGS of course. Don't know how I muddled the familiar letters up there.
