Good morning all , the cold took my breath away yesterday when we went to see GS , socially distant , I got my spare mask out and put it on over the usual one , it kept my nose from falling off and stopped me coughing , GS tried to hide how much he was laughing !
My water feature is frozen solid again , I might have to do away with it if it has cracked ?

Good Morning Mick and everyone from a bitterly cold South Glos. Lovely to see the snow pics and ice formations but very glad I haven't got snow here.

Had a surprise phone call from my son yesterday who was thrilled that he had saved a lot of money on his car insurance because he actually had the time to trawl through the comparison websites. I love that we are pleased about minor things nowadays.

Good luck to those having their vax and special thoughts to all who are struggling. Stay safe and warm. x

Good morning from a very, very cold and windy Wiltshire and I am SO DONE with the cold weather now!?. Yesterday was mainly spent trying to get all the livestock watered as everything was frozen and today will be the same. The cold and the biting wind just makes every job seem so much harder and by the evening I’m fit for nothing. Roll on Sunday when this cold spell should be over! We still have the last 4 cows to calf but they are showing no inclination to do so but at least all the ewes are keeping their lambs-to-be tucked up warm inside them........ I really don’t want any early, premature lambs born in this icy cold. Still so much to do to get the barn set up for lambing, but hopefully will make some headway there today. Moan, moan, moan .......!!!
On a brighter note, it’s great to read how many of you now have had your first vaccines and Sar, that’s such good news about your daughter. Wishing you all a good day- stay out of this biting wind and icy weather as much as you can..... the better weather isn’t far away!

Good morning from a beautiful sunny Malta.

I’m already ensconced on the couch watching the tennis from Australia.

Lovely snow pictures but I’m glad I’m not there. I hate being cold.?

Hairdresser later. Should have gone yesterday but I wanted to watch the Nadal match so my lovely hairdresser changed the appointment for me.

Wishing you all a good day.☀️

Good morning from North Yorkshire. Another freezing start under a clear blue sky here. The last two days have been lovely even though very cold and it looks like the same again today.
I have a shopping slot booked at 10 and have a few errands to do in town.
I will write some letters later and get them in the post. I used to write to my DDs every week since their university days but stopped last year when the post became very erratic. It’s time to start again.
It’s good to hear so many people have had their sh*t. I’m in group 5 so should be hearing something soon.
Hope everyone has a good day. Stay safe.

Good morning everyone from a bitterly freezing cold start to the day from the east coast of Fife.Lots of folk in Fife have been stuck in the snow yesterday. After waiting 2 hrs for a nurse to come and give me the vaccine I found out that of the two nurses working one of them had slipped and broken her wrist. Poor thing. My ds had a slip too luckily she wasn’t injured. The main roads are clear I hear the cars coming and going. I had the most horrific night last night feeling nauseous and dizzy probably due to the UTI it was a real palaver to get my antibiotics prescription the chemist couldn’t source any of the antibiotics prescribed luckily my dh sourced them at his pharmacy about 3 miles away.what an excuse to stay in bed today after a gorgeous sunny day yesterday. - when I’m feeling better I’ll get up else I’ll be rooted to the mattress.winkif you’ve got snow and ice please stay safe and no skating around

grannysyb Fri 12-Feb-21 08:37:57

Good morning from a bright Teddington. Still very cold, but snow has gone. Change beds today and give upstairs a lick and a promise! Going for a walk with DD this afternoon, and hopefully wave at the GCs. Have a good day everyone.

Good morning everyone from a dry and chilly Northampton. Stayed in bed till 8am, and am just having tea and biscuits. How I long for the days when DH used to get up and bring them to me......

I had a delivery of wool yesterday, so am able to finish off my cardigan. I have another pocket to knit, then it will be the neckband to finish and sewing up. I've also had an email to say that more wool is on its way.

Ordered DS's birthday present yesterday; finally decided on some cologne to go with his favourite aftershave.

Just the same old again today, reading, crosswords, knitting, and watch tv this evening. Hoovered upstairs yesterday, and may run it over the sitting room today to remove any stray cat fur from their daily grooming. They do like their nightly routine - about 10pm they will come and sit in front of me and wait to be brushed as they know they get treats afterwards.

Enjoyed looking at the photos; hoping that we can all find something to enjoy today.

Good morning from -1 in S Hants, up later today, it was very windy overnight, I heard it briefly. Lovely photos Ashcombe I’ll bet there’s a wood burner in there making it cosy. Gingster my daughter is a sp too and not looking forward to half term next week with the restrictions. I’ve arranged delivery of Prosecco and cake for next Friday, she’ll deserve it. Tesco delivery later, hopefully with crispy duck for Chinese New Year dinner tonight. So many getting vaccinations now, I can remember when we were waiting for the first GN to get one! No plans, apart from dropping a parcel at a local shop to be picked up, washing and hoovering.
Have a peaceful day all, hoping some mojo comes back for those who’ve mislaid it.

harrigran Fri 12-Feb-21 09:03:31

Good morning from a sunny NE where it is -3 and the snow is still lying.
It was -5 yesterday evening so everything froze.
DH had an email to say he was now extremely, clinically vulnerable and must not meet with anyone, he has been very ill for the last year and now they send the notice.
Dustbin collection day but they have put notices out to say they may not empty the bins because of the snow, there is about 2 inches here FGS.
Hearing of more reactions to the vaccine, I take that as a sign that our bodies are making antibodies.
Stay warm and safe.

Susan56 Fri 12-Feb-21 09:05:59

Good morning from a very chilly Shropshire?

We had the Pfizer vaccination yesterday and have the date and time for our second appointment. No side effects as yet??It was a very efficient process and lovely volunteers and staff. We felt sorry for the car park attendants too Ashcombe.

We had a video of DGD saying her Rainbows promise on zoom last night???the wonders of technology.

Half term starts today so no child care support needed until the end of next week.DH is thinking we should paint the kitchen, I feel I could sit with my feet up and read for a week!

Cherry, I hope you are ok and had a restful night.x

Ellan, hope you are ok too.Thinking of Auntieflo and Georgesgran and anyone else with illness, worries or lost mojo’s?

Happyme Fri 12-Feb-21 09:06:25

Good morning from a decidedly chilly overcast Cumbria. It was cold but sunny and bright yesterday......sunny and bright makes such a difference. Photo was taken on yesterdays walk on the other side of town with a glimpse of Coniston in the distance. Only snow was on mountain tops but plenty of ice ? .
Good news for us re vaccine, Mr H and I have appointments at GP's surgery tomorrow......can't believe how excited I feel.

Will go back and read everyones posts later...off for a shower as need to be out by 9.30 to drop car off at garage. Ooh I am so busy....not!

Urmstongran Fri 12-Feb-21 09:07:42

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where it’s dry but looks very cold out! Himself is just about to go down in the lift to our (Sainsbury’s) larder for groceries to last us till Monday. Twice a week shopping is safer than bits and bobs every day we feel. He usually goes Thursday but he had a high temperature from the vaccine the day before so it was just a rest up with paracetamol day. He’s great this morning.
Phew! I’d have had to move myself otherwise ...
?

I love this thread. I had to look up that word ‘nacreous’ granMattie - 3 across anyone?
?
It apparently means ‘mother-of-pearl’. Lovely word.

Also I didn’t realise (yet) that it was Chinese NY NanKate. I thought Mick would have told us that as he often has a Chinese takeaway!

Scentia and dwm I think you are both superwomen! You energy astounds me. In fact I feel exhausted just reading about your plans for the day!
#lazygran

I finished my novel yesterday (my level of exertion. It was The Thursday Murder Club and I thought it was pretty dire. Oh dear. I only persevered to the end because our Yorkshire Lass had bought it me for Christmas!

Pantglas that made me laugh about the speed you rushed out yesterday as though on a hot date!

My doctor is ringing me at 11am. A telephone consultation about the result of my blood test for sugar levels. I’m hoping it’s a kick up the bum saying ‘lose weight and exercise more or I’ll have to put you on metformin’. I’ve gained a fair bit of weight and need to sort myself out. I’m also going to ask if I can have a thyroid function blood test as per my thread about the condition of my hair.

Ashcombe what a gorgeous house and view your husband has. It looks pretty rural. I’d need a Sainsbury’s at the bottom of that drive though!

kitty what beautiful ice formation - however one photo looks like an x-ray of intestines so I’m not too keen on that one!

Another here who misses our Friday girl. A shout out to you dear gillybob hoping to come back soon. I don’t think a poster has been so loved and missed.

Hope Friday is good to us all. Keep safe everyone that’s the main thing. x

Happyme, your photo has brought back happy memories.

We always used to stay at The Sun in Coniston when I was a child.Donald Campbell’s mum used to stay there and my mum taught her to crochet!

Last year was the first year of my life I didn’t visit the Lakes.Hopefully later this year we will be able to visit??

Greyduster Fri 12-Feb-21 09:15:20

Good morning Michael and all GNs. It’s bitterly cold and windy in South Yorkshire. I feel as if I have fallen out of a tree this morning. I ache everywhere. We took GS’s birthday presents over yesterday and had Face Time cutting of the cake and singing Happy Birthday in the evening. I am gutted by all the birthdays we are missing because of Covid but at least we are still here to see them, gratias Deo, even if we can’t get up close and personal to celebrate them! Food shopping to do today, if I can get moving, and then a warmer weekend I hope! Have a good day folks.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 12-Feb-21 09:24:48

Good morning Mick and all

-1 here in S E Essex snow still here, DD and boys stayed last night, the 1 yr old finally went to sleep at 3am!!!! Poor DD has gone into the office, I shall send DH out for nappies and cakes, hopefully the 1yr old will have a long sleep this morning.

Sons daffodils to brighten your day!

Urmstongran Fri 12-Feb-21 09:34:10

Susan56 your post about Donald Campbell brought back a memory. In Spain, one of our neighbours (who sadly died last year at the age of 84y) was one of the team of engineers who worked with DC - designing his Bluebird boat. He told us the weather that day was against trying for the speed record as the water was very choppy. He said DC wouldn’t listen to advice from some of his team. Apparently he was a stubborn bugger. The rest, as they say, is history.

Talk about 6 degrees of separation!

muse Fri 12-Feb-21 09:38:59

Good morning Mick and all. Not seen any snow at all here (Cornwall)
4° on thermometer outside. Blue skies and freezing wind. Poorly dog again. Going to ring to talk to the vet but I've lost confidence in him. We've had a walk.
Decided for 2021 I'd do less to try and maintain the massive amount of veg and fruit I grow as well as the garden and grass and pond. I've found Mark whose coming to help (paid).
Hi and welcome Happyme.
Do as DH says Marydoll.
Lovely icy photos Kitty
I love discovering new words Urm. I also love inventing new ones. I think some words have a lovely sound. Wish I had a supermarket or even a shop that close. Closest neighbour is 500m away.

Stay safe

Good Morning everyone from soon-to-be sunny Southern France.

Life overtook me yesterday but I caught up on all your doings before bedtime. I see how you have such beautiful cats, Blue if they have a daily pamper session. How obliging they must be and they must enjoy it. We do have a dog who will go and stand in the shower when we ask! ?. Fantastic news from your DD, Sar. Hope life will settle now and you can take a break from worrying. Taichinan - no, you’re not being a cynic. We’re convinced our paint, order in so many boxes, was deliberately vandalised. ? Have a decent day, Jax.

Baubles, you need to stop thinking! I find if I start to feel ‘what’s the point’, as long as I can find stuff - however dull - to distract me from contemplating too much on the What Ifs, I can get past a low point because I’ll get some small achievement from feeling in control again. Hope you have a better day.

I made a huge effort to get on and enjoy the day yesterday. At the end of it, it felt almost like the good old days. Of course warm sunshine helped. Doors and windows open, dogs and cats outside in the garden, DH ditto, enabled me to vacuum and steam mop all the floors which were dry in 10 minutes. Cleaned the bathrooms and then quickly baked some treats. At 2.15 we met some dear friends on the beach and walked for a couple of miles. Flat beach, foot not playing up, all fingers crossed. Lots of sails on the horizon, dazzling water and no wind. ? ⛵️A lovely treat as the 4 of us, with 3 dogs, a picnic rug and some refreshments, finally chose 2 massive washed up tree trunks to settle on near the dunes. (The dogs just wouldn’t keep off the picnic rug!)

We laughed at how ‘reduced’ our efforts were in these times and how happy we were to be out together. Normal life would see us meet for a stroll and an impromptu lunch in a pavement or beach café, later this became a picnic left in the car following a walk, to avoid carrying a wine bottle, containers, glasses, a combined lunch etc., Yesterday we sat in the sun and it was glorious. My girl friend made us all laugh when she said, I honestly think we’re turning into our Mothers. We had some bottles of water, some sunscreen, a box of cherry rock buns and peanut butter cookies and .......flasks of tea! All we needed was a windbreak and for one of the men to have a big handkerchief (knotted at 4 corners) on his head! ? It was fabulous. Probably no point in railing constantly about what we can’t do. Nice company, fresh air, being warm enough in long sleeved tee shirts and gilets in February and having tea and a rare catchup with good mates on a pretty empty beach .....what’s not to like? At the end of the day, it felt like I’d had a holiday. Today, I’m feeling positive and energized, so will make the most of that feeling. While it lasts!

Glad so many are getting the needle ?. Let’s hope and pray for safer and healthier times for us all. The snow will soon be gone - a further step towards Spring and lighter, brighter days.

Hugs and ? flowers for all who need them Keep going, lovely people, we’ll succeed together. ?‍♀️???

Morning all ?
Not ventured outside yet but my gardening son (who lives with us) opened the door to go to work and the Arctic wind got in. Flipping heck! Still no snow though and actually no ice on the car by the looks of it.
Off to pick up my click and collect grocery shopping in a bit. Just done my hair and makeup. Hope the bloke at Morrison’s appreciates it! When you don’t get out so much, it seems a bit of an occasion!
Nothing else planned for the day although I’ve got sone computer work to do for a mate of mine. And I’ve signed up for a free online reflexology session later and then at 6pm, a cockney sing song session!
Have a super day everyone
Xx

Auntieflo Fri 12-Feb-21 09:53:49

Good morning Mick, Annie, and all. Another beautiful, bright, sunny and cold day here in our bit of Berks.
Yesterday was a complete nothing day, and I felt so bored , but I did begin to crochet a Clanger, for GGS. Hearing that he had seen a couple of episodes with his Dad, I decided to make him one; then I can post it, and he has a parcel to open.

I was going to post yesterday, but by the time I got around to thinking about it, it was afternoon, and so many posts to read!

I now have my new phone, but it isn't showing the correct number in Settings, although calls are getting through. Also, I can only see ICloud Mail, and not GMail, so another snag for son in law to sort out for me.

Harrigran, sorry to hear that your DH has been poorly for so long. Hugs to you both.

Lovely french home Ashcombe, I also have porch envy.
Scentia, sounds as though your new baby guinea pigs will have a warm and comfy home.
Love the icicles Kitty. Are they the result of car spray? and one of them does look a bit like intestines.
Your poor DD Ginster, let's hope her drip is soon stopped.

Baubles, flowers for you . Chin up and we are with you and all who have the slumps!

To Marydoll, Elizabeth, Lins, and all who are unwell, Sending my best wishes for a good day.

Now to away and get myself ready to face the day, and being as it's Friday, remembering our Gilly

Have a good day one and all.

Taichinan Fri 12-Feb-21 10:00:56

Good morning all from a bitterly cold Angus coast where more snow has fallen. Enough is enough!
Welcome to the Chinese Year of the Ox. I hope he's kinder to the planet than last year's Rat! Usually all us Tai Chi-ers go to a rather lovely local Chinese restaurant for a banquet - usually 50-60 of us - but not this year of course. We just managed it last year before the first lockdown.
My main task today is trying to feed some water into the pond, which of course is frozen over except for one small corner. I hope I haven't lost the fish - I've just remembered we lost them all in 2010. However the miracle was that the little ones hatched out safely that early summer, so I must remember that! (Mr Heron managed to get most of them a few years later ?)
Loving all the photos today. Your DH's house in France looks lovely, Ash. My DD goes walking every day near her home in Perthshire and takes the most beautiful photos. I'll see if I can find one later and add it.
Now I must head for the shower and get this day moving - I don't pay attention to the clock any more and just do things as the inclination takes me. As usual, have the best day you can everyone. And remember Spring is surely round the corner ???
