Which actors do you consider over rated?

Flicking through channels last night I came across an actor who I think is vastly over rated and I can't understand those who think he is talented. I am talking about Mandy Patinkin. His movements are wooden, he rarely speaks with any inflection and has only one expression - miserable, even when trying to smile!

Yes, the builder family in Corrie have been graced by the addition of Ed’s brother. Aargh!

The mother and father are the worst actors, closely followed by the gullible older son.

I feel I could be a more useful addition to the cast than they are.

I don't agree that Hugh Grant is the same in every part. I think he was extremely good playing the part of Jeremy Thorpe. Hugh Grant says himself that he is nothing like the stuttering, gauche but rather charming Englishman that he is often typecast as.

I do like Nicola Walker very much but she does seem to have some rather noticeable mannerisms in whatever drama she's in.

I gather the builder family are getting a new addition.
Personally I’d prefer they were all gotten rid of, maybe the older son could stay if he got rid of Grace.

Definitely the builder in Corrie, he is more wooden than the staircase in his house, the son with the pregnant girlfriend is dire too.
Danny Dyer is dire, absolutely no talent whatsoever.

I think Judi Dench tends to sound the same now because there isn't much variety of parts for women of her age. If you go back to programmes like Talking To A Stranger or On Giants' Shoulders or her Lady Macbeth with Ian McKellan she had a great range.

I would have put Gwyneth Paltrow on the list, but she was perfect in Emma. Leonardo Di Caprio I thought was very impressive in The Aviator. I make a point of avoiding anything with Daniel Craig.

Luckygirl
Oh he is, he’s so cute!

Yes, I also go with Brian Blessed, and also Michael Caine who always sounds the same to me. And women...Joanna Lumley.

I think there are a few actors, both male and female, who seem to play themselves all the time. But on the whole they all have the ability to relax, be comfortable in front of the camera and totally at ease in the character they're playing. Therefore what they do they do very well because they don't appear to be acting.

Suranne Jones. She gurns a great deal and stays as the same character whatever role she plays. Heaven alone know why she is so often on the box.

Dominic West.

Dominic West was excellent, and chilling I thought, as Fred West in 'Appropriate Adult'. Dominic West and Hugh Grant have both redeemed themselves with one meaty role where they proved their acting credentials.

The builder family in Corrie especially the mum and dad, watching them makes me cringe, they cannot act for the life of them, Dev changing the tone of his voice every so often into a higher pitch drives me mad, Gemma Collins although no one could call her an actor she’s been in reality programmes and other things, although I’ve read she’d like to break into acting ! God help us

Nicolas Cage. So bad in The Bad Lieutenant, I honestly thought it was a spoof movie.

Sienne Miller, Liz Hurley. Both only famous for being attractive.

I used to think Hugh Grant was bad and could only play posh blokes, but then I saw him in a couple of things where he had a bit of an edge and changed my mind. I think along the way he has learned how to act.

Jaxjacky Sun 21-Feb-21 15:38:33

Tom Cruise, I just don’t find him credible. I watched Knives Out with Daniel Craig recently, very good.

RulaNula Sun 21-Feb-21 14:58:52

I thought the boy who played Harry Potter when a child. Daniel Radcliffe, well I thought he was dreadful.

However, now he's an adult my opinion has totally changed. He's done a few good films and he's great fun when being interviewed.

Grandma70s Sun 21-Feb-21 14:52:29

The problem with Judi Dench is that she has a very distinctive voice, so whatever part she’s playing she just sounds like Judi Dench, whereas Maggie Smith, whose voice, and looks for that matter, are far less distinctive is able to more fully inhabit the character she’s acting. The same was true of Laurence Oliver.

NellG Sun 21-Feb-21 14:45:11

Kristen Stewart - she pretty much just does wooden, pained or constipated.

Can agree re Olivia Coleman - she's still Bev, of Bev and Kev in their 'whizzy' car.

RulaNula Sun 21-Feb-21 14:45:02

Fanny-why not just say Mandel then, its not much shorter is it?

That's how he likes to be called. Mandy. It's his business.

I really like him, Oldwoman70!

He's also a very talented musician. But not my genre so I don't get excited about that ;-)

Judy54 Sun 21-Feb-21 14:36:19

Joanna Lumley, Joanna Lumley and Joanna Lumley.

hollysteers Sun 21-Feb-21 14:35:59

Blossoming Sun 21-Feb-21 13:43:22

Jude Law.

grandmajet Sun 21-Feb-21 13:35:45

Isn’t Bill Nighy with Anna Wintour now? Sorry, off the subject a bit - he’s not a great actor, but interesting to watch. He was good in the Marigold Hotel.

paddyanne Sun 21-Feb-21 13:22:36

Mandy Patinkin was in Yentyl with Barbra Streisand ,I liked him in that ,I assume he's Jewish as we have a Jewish friend who 'se name is Mandy short for Mandel to.Haven't heard it anywhere else .My additioon to those who just act themselves is Jason Steatham (sp) My GS used to want to see his films when he stayed with us and not only does he play the same character the films all have the same story just reworked
