I agree with you about John Wayne, TerriBull, he always looked and sounded like - John Wayne. I particularly remember him playing a Roman soldier at the foot of the Cross in the film The Greatest Story Ever Told. He only had one line:
Truly, this man was the Son of God
and said it with a drawl, no expression - as if he was playing an American cowboy!

Yes I do remember that line Marmight, Oh my God he was awful even with just a few words, he still managed to ruin the whole scene, something about new world accents, not good when playing a character from an ancient civilization. Russell Crow and Joaquin Phoenix manged to do it though.

Just scanning other comments, yep! Hugh Grant, only does posh, couldn't see him playing a geezer say, leave that to Danny Dyer who can be relied on to turn in an excellent impression of himself, strange! him being royal 'an all . Although I do think Hugh Grant can be quite good in some roles, he was excellent hamming it up in Paddington 2, almost upstaged the Bear! he's such an irascible sod though, HG that is not Paddington

Sorry GG can't agree about Leo De Caprio I do think he is an excellent actor ever since I saw him playing mentally disabled brother of Jonny Depp in What's Eating Gilbert Grape. Thought he was very very good in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Certainly not one dimensional.

Also don't agree about Olivia Colman or Jude Law, think they can both be very good depending on the role.

Michael Caine, as mentioned up thread, yes I think he's always Michael Caine and don't think he does a very good American accent. Don't dislike him though.

I can't say anything too rude about Keira, she went to my kids school and was a local girl.

I agree about Olivia Coleman especially in The Crown. I thought Claire Foy was wonderful though.

I was also of the opinion that Hugh Grant wasn't a good actor, as he just appears to play himself in all his films. However, I changed my opinion after watching him play Jeremy Thorpe in a mini-series of his life- he was mesmerising and really captured the essence of the MP, who couldn't be more unlike all the other characters
that Grant's has played.

I also agree that Daisy in Corrie is very wooden and think Kirk is nearly as bad. Neither character is believable.

At the risk of being slated - I never understood Humphrey Bogart's appeal - from the few films I've seen him in he was so wooden and seemed to play the same character in all of them!

Ray Winstone is another one who just walks around being himself whatever the character is supposed to be

Danny Dyer is top of my list. Having seen him in interviews I’m not convinced he’s even acting in Eastenders.

As for that awful game show he presents and can’t even pronounce the name! The Waww!

Frank Skinner was my A level English teacher!
Goodness me! I don't dislike him, I just don't see why he is where he is, very average at everything although undoubtedly quite clever. So, what was he like?

One person I would have loved to see do more real acting was Kenneth Williams. I heard a radio play he did re someone who descended into madness and it was quite chilling.

Michael Caine gave a television master class on acting once and it was really interesting.

Bill Nighy - he only ever seems to play himself in films which isn't really acting. Saying that I think that his was the best performance in 'Love Actually' which was a fairly grim film all round imho.

I agree about Hugh Grant, but what he does, he does so well.

Leonardo DiCaprio just do not get how people think he is handsome and I also do not think he is a particularly good actor.

I have seen him interviewed and he does come over as a really nice person though.

Same with Hugh Grant, but I do rather like him nevertheless!

I suppose he thought mandy would get him more notice, as an actor..But Mandel is unusual too, and sounds more dignified for him.

Danny Dyer used to be better i think, when he started, but when he alighted on Eastenders, he began to change, like he didnt think he had to do much, as he was now 'famous'- but i think all the long- timers on the soaps get like that these days, but that could just be the scriptwriters because they don't know where else to take their characters?- lets hope Danny Dyer's new abuse storyline brings him back down to earth so he can play it with real feeling & compassion to do the story justice?

I agree about Daisy in corrie- and add also Gabby in Emmerdale, in fact most of the young females in all the soaps are a bit mundane!
