Yes and I think it was a cultural difference as well. My sister in law is Anerican and she is very open about her feelings, we had a family bereavement last year and watching the difference between the way she expressed herself and the way dh (British, quite reserved) expressed himself was interesting to say the least.

Marrying Harry has put her on the world stage. She was a second rate actress who handed out packets of drugs as favours at her first marriage. She saw her opportunity and took it. Some would say good on you girl. But please go and do it quietly and let everyone forget you ever existed like before their marriage. Who cares what they get up to.
Service, however it is given, does not need to be shouted out.
How about the mountain rescue chap who was disabled for life and only mentioned on the local news after going to the rescue of illegal wild campers who have never been named and only fined £200 each. That's service.

I thought she was just honest too, people don't like honesty though, they like people to put on a front and act in a way they find socially acceptable themselves. It is like when people are upset and grieving or <insert any other life changing event> people are far happier if your pain is done in a dignified manner. They don't want snot and tears and ugly. As far as I can see it is only the patronage and titles awarded by the RF that have been removed (I may be wrong about this). But I think Harry remains a patron of the Invictus Games and Meghan is a patron of Smart Works. They. have also given money to sports development and a coach training organisation.

Not forgetting Megan spent Christmas with the family before they married , no one else has done so. And Harry said they were the family she never had,

this morning of the 2018 wedding was interesting. Yes, heaven and earth were moved to accommodate the pair's wishes, but it was not to be the stuff of which fairy tales are made. They had everything they wanted, but didn't somewhere Meghan later reduce the occasion to being an exercise in attracting tourism? Very ungrateful.

trisher I see your point - I read that as not possible to continue with their roles as they were bestowed as part of the services provided by working members of the RF. (that was a mouthful...!)

I think the interpretation of what public service is means very different things inside and outside of the RF.

Nah, sorry trisher what ever way I look at it that last line was completely unnecessary. It's the kind of thing I would add if I was being sarcastic - or someone would add if they were being passive aggressive. Other than that it serves zero purpose because their intention has already been stated.

It seemed quite a reasonable statement to me. An offer to remain a support to the organisations they once held official roles in. Perhaps that's why only the last few words have been reproduced. That wouldn't sit well with the image of uncaring individuals

As far as I'm aware that's correct Nell. He couldn't retain his offices and roles once he was no longer a working member of the RF. Something he must have known when the decision was made.
