Has anyone got a different perspective after watching last evenings interview?
I am be really interested to hear if any of you feel more or less pro the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Kate has never appeared robotic! Have you not seen playing hockey? Have you not seen her talking to others? It's clear that her interest and smiles are genuine - they come from her eyes too.
She's intelligent and well educated with a good degree from a good university. She knew William and his family for years and had plenty of time to learn and understand the protocol and expectations.

The semantics of hypocrisy are a never ending joy to behold.

For those who want to look at a black person's views about race in America Grayson Perry's excellent programme about his trip is interesting. If you don't mind the swearing this is worth watching and her remark "White people only see colour at their convenience" is really enlightening www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTTOAtZ6LLo

I have just read of an interview with yet another of Meghan’s friends who says she watched the “special” with “them”
presumably Meghan and Harry
This interview was on GMB this morning with usual presenters.
Yesterday Oprah Winfrey was reported as saying Meghan rang her to ask how the programme was going as she had been too busy putting Archie to bed.
I feel I am with Alice here, further and further down the rabbit hole.

maddyone Wed 10-Mar-21 13:44:18

.....a suburban mother who is robotic and on antidepressants.

Is Catherine on antidepressants?

NellG

The semantics of hypocrisy are a never ending joy to behold.

So succinct and accurate. Saved me typing my rambling response grin

I have always had sympathy for Harry and thought she was a beauty and an asset but feel the opposite now. Hearing Harry speak about having his money cut off whilst being immensly rich made me think what a selfish pair they are. It did rather seem that she did want Archie to be a prince and didn't understand the system or chose to manipulate it to make it sound like she was being abused by her race. Horrible, nasty and pathetic.

Smileless2012 Wed 10-Mar-21 13:51:56

Well practically your entire post doesn't describe Kate trisher.

A submissive docile, old fashioned an subservient wife; really, are you really naive enough to believe that she never disagrees with William, doesn't have a thought of her own in her head and that just because they do the sensible thing, and keep any discord private, that there never is any?

Robotic, well I know the advancement in robotics is amazing but I doubt they'll ever produce one with such a beautiful smile, kind and empathetic eyes and a natural ability to put others' at their ease. That also applies to being void of having emotions.

On anti depressants, is she? I've needed anti depressants in the past and no one would dare refer to me as a stepford wife.

Appears perfect is that her fault if some see her that way which of course is ridiculous because no one's perfect are they. I mean Mary Poppins only managed to be 'practically perfect in every way'.

Since when was being able to fit in a bad thing? What a shame for so many that Meghan didn't even try.

The OP was asking if we have a different perspective after the interview and are we more or less supportive of M&H.
A snap YouGov poll showed that opinions have hardly changed at all since, and this seems to be borne out on this thread.
The poll also showed most support for the RF comes from the older generation not younger ones, and this appears similar on here with a few renegade outliers like me! Bodes well for a Republican future grin

Caramac Wed 10-Mar-21 13:54:46

I think M is a highly manipulative actress and Harry still misses his mum.
They said they wanted the press to back off and have now invited them into their lives but only hinted at/ given half stories.

Smileless2012 Wed 10-Mar-21 13:55:37

Whatshock it took her 2 hours to put Archie to bed!!! She must think we're all stupid annsixty.

Neilspurgeon0 Wed 10-Mar-21 13:56:19

I didn’t watch it but there is NO way that this would have changed my opinion. In my opinion this who episode has NOTHING to do with racism, and everything to do with the spoilt brats inability to understand that being within the Royal family demands a strong sense of duty and NOT always being the centre of attention. Of course the RF have enormous benefits and privileges, but the cost if that is living in a goldfish bowl. If you don’t want the latter then just clear off and live your life privately, BUT then DON’T go courting publicity. Several much better examples than these two idiots that spring to mind are Princess Ann, and Viscount Lindsey.

trisher Wed 10-Mar-21 14:01:55

Smileless2012 just like others I can only judge from the public persona Kate chooses to present. And yes she does portray a subservient wife. She smiles in all the right places, makes all the required noises and generally behaves like someone who has just stepped out of the 1950s. Is she on anti-depressants? I have no idea, nor I think does anyone else. But if the 1950s and 60s taught us anything it is that women who lived their lives in that way seldom managed to survive without considerable problems as they grew older. Will she survive? I don't know. I hope she can find a way to develop some autonomy as she grows older.
I do at least have some sympathy for her but it doesn't stop me criticising what she has allowed herself to become.

Rosie51 Wed 10-Mar-21 14:04:17

Have only seen snippets of the chat, but my opinion of Harry has plummeted. That he is happy to allow innocent members of his family to be under the cloud of suspicion of being racist is incredibly cruel. Don't make the allegation if you're not prepared to identify the culprit. How is it the only ones he's prepared to "put in the clear" are the Queen and Prince Philip, but happy to smear all the rest? A vile tactic.

jacqrose Wed 10-Mar-21 14:04:25

Charles is in effect using public money to fund his children as he pays no corporation tax on Duchy earnings. I don’t think it is made public the rate of tax he pays voluntarily on the Duchy profits. This set up is a scam. As for Harry, must be awful at his age, and now with his own family, having to rely on his father to support him. The purpose of the monarchy needs looking at.

NellG Wed 10-Mar-21 14:13:53

Smiles don't forget that trisher doesn't care who she offends, as I was told yesterday "if the cap fits". So there's no point in trying to get her to recognise how insulting her comments are to all women. She's only interested if she feels the women that she admires are being insulted.

grannypiper Wed 10-Mar-21 14:14:09

I think it is very easy to make claims when you know the other party won't stoop to your level and go on television to reply.

NellG Wed 10-Mar-21 14:18:12

So it's OK for Harry to receive money from the Duchy profits, despite the lack of corporation tax paid, but a scandal that his father does? Eh?

Or is there a suggestion that it's somehow 'laundered' by the time it gets to Harry?

Smileless2012 Wed 10-Mar-21 14:18:28

You're assuming she has no autonomy trisher which of course she has and exercised when she married William and your sympathy is based on what you think she and her life is like, and it's not one she would choose, but she did.

There's no comparison to women in the 50's and 60's who didn't have the life style choices that women have today. I see your passionate posts of the feminist movement and what it stands for and represents.

Well one of the things it stands for and represents is a woman's right to choose and that women should not be denigrated for the choices they make which includes a life of domesticity.

You have no right to criticise Kate for what you perceive as her having "allowed herself to become" and in so doing damage what you so often say you support; feminism.

Madgran77 Wed 10-Mar-21 14:20:39

And yes she does portray a subservient wife. She smiles in all the right places, makes all the required noises and generally behaves like someone who has just stepped out of the 1950s

So having decided to marry Prince William, she has looked at the right way to support her husband in his designated role, she is polite, friendly, chatty, tactful, has developed very specific areas of interest and supportive input within the role for herself (early years; scouts and probably others I dont know about), has reacted strongly using the law (with her husband) quite rightly to personal photos being taken of her by paparazzi (ie not taken such behaviour lying down) ...but she's "just a subservient wife behaving like someone out of the 1950's!!!

Yeah, right!!! Dear me!

Peasblossom Wed 10-Mar-21 14:24:41

Yes, I thought the feminist movement was about a woman’s right to choose.

But it seems that some ‘feminists’ think that means she has to choose what they think she should choose.

So really they’re just men in disguise?

Rendella Wed 10-Mar-21 14:35:01

I feel the RF should take a leaf out of the Dutch Royal Family’s book, and scale right down, and take themselves out of the public eye. That would mean giving up a considerable amount of staff, services, and perks, but I feel that it is the only way ahead for them. They need to come down to Earth considerably, and stop harking back to the past. There are no ‘Sun Kings’ now thank goodness.

varian Wed 10-Mar-21 14:40:37

I think King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, for many years before the covid pandemic, worked as a pilot for the Dutch airline KLM for one day every month.

This meant he could retain his qualification as a commercial airline pilot, but also gave him the chance to do a "proper job" which was probably a welcome break from monarching.

Oldbutstilluseful Wed 10-Mar-21 14:45:52

This 1950’s Stepford Wives comparison is getting on my pip.
I grew up working class in the ‘50’s and ‘60’s and none of the women I knew could be described like that. All working women who raised children in the war years and after, managing without their husbands for years and doing a great job of working and make do and mending. The men had a shock when they came home and found these feisty, independent wives waiting for them.

The only antidepressants I ever knew of was from doctors prescribing smoking for their nerves. My dear old mum shortened her life because of this, but always said she’d give up when the doctor (long dead) told her to!

Rosie51 Wed 10-Mar-21 14:48:03

trisher But if the 1950s and 60s taught us anything it is that women who lived their lives in that way seldom managed to survive without considerable problems as they grew older.

Care to offer anything substantive, or are we just to accept your opinion as sufficient evidence?

Why are you happy to constantly use a derogatory term for Catherine, what on earth has she done to you to deserve that? You are free to say you wouldn't want to live life as she appears to (your opinion of her life, not fact), but you don't need to continually insult and degrade her with your Stepford wife slur.
