Has anyone got a different perspective after watching last evenings interview?
I am be really interested to hear if any of you feel more or less pro the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

trisher re the racism/Grany post. I sincerely hope they do make that statement, and soon.

NellG Fri 12-Mar-21 10:58:28

trisher I am reminded of this:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtCFt_0hMyc

In our case the definition would be, define irony: A bunch of women, arguing on the internet about a topic they claim not to be interested in.

The only difference being I'm not the one feverishly going back in the thread to prove my point. I mostly just state my case, ask questions, eat my popcorn and continue to learn a little about the irony of my own desire to argue with strangers on the internet. However I'm not averse to searching Youtube for funny clips to make my point wink

trisher Fri 12-Mar-21 10:57:30

You move in very different circles to me tickingbirdmost people I know couldn't care less about any of them.

tickingbird Fri 12-Mar-21 10:56:15

I’m talking present day trisher. Speak to most people and the Queen is held in high regard.

Well NellG Harry did say racist comments like the RF That was before he met and married Meghan and changed his views for the better.

What makes you believe that that the rest of the RF can't/wont/haven't done the same thing? especially since Harry, now that he's aware of his own racism had the perfect 'teachable moment' when a relative questioned the potential colour of Archies skin.

It's just a possible that they've learned things too. Probably not from Harry though, who just felt awkward according to his own recollection.

Then wouldn't it be nice if they said something like "we are constantly learning and educating ourselves about racism and apologise to anyone who has ever felt someone in our family made a comment they thought racist."
Instead of just saying "No it's not"
Which only reminded me of the classice pantomime scene. I wanted to shout "Oh yes it is"

I agree with you Call in as much as thinking that people take an interest in this because its seen as an attack on the Royal family. And a natural consequence of that I suppose is that they think its an attack on our way of life, but for many people the existence of a monarchy doesn’t impact at all on our way of life. I agree very strongly with what Trisher wrote about the monarchy at 10:31.

I’m no Royalist but I’m not cheering anyone on. But what is bizarre – and I’m sorry I can’t think of another word to use – is that people believe that an American woman has corrupted our lovely Prince and that together they are intent on bringing down the fabric of British society. That’s to say nothing of the personal attack on both of these people, the names that they have been called on GN, the assumptions about their behaviours and “knowledge” about how they felt and what their motivations are. Based on nothing but hearsay and imagination.

Such helpful comments. Felt sad that they did this in that way when they could have done it with the family. They should have thought more about the huge challenges facing millions round the world today which make their complaints so small. However I do pray they seek reconciliation and try and sort out their troubles using more common sense and seek wisdom which will help for their future.

Widely supported though trisher and what you describe could pass as an average week in the labour party!

Look up the Prince Regent and Princess Caroline. He was so hated that people preferred to support her (even though she had a history of infidelity and had been lampooned in the press) when she returned to England and tried to be crowned as Queen.

Subi Fri 12-Mar-21 10:44:15

Very sad, especially for the children, due to this interview they will have lost both sets of extended families, only grandparent will be Megan’s mother who does childcare,
They have betrayed Harry’s family by sharing family squabbles worldwide.

Callistemon Fri 12-Mar-21 10:39:24

trisher I can see a copy of The Sex Lives of the British Monarchs just across the room - DH is preparing a talk on that subject. (How up-to-date is it, I wonder?)

I am aware. I don't really care at all as long as they perform their roles satisfactorily and without huge upheavals.
This isn't really an upheaval, it's a blip.

Obviously that is with the proviso that anything which is allegedly illegal should be investigated.

TBH I find it all a bit disturbing Trisher. If people can jump to these conclusions and make unfounded comments about people they have never met and who mean nothing in their lives, what else will they believe?

Alegrias and trisher
Personally I don't give two hoots what they do and I hope they'll be as happy as they can be in their own world - but this is not just an attack on their family. This is a threat to our way of life which has gone on for centuries since the Restoration and to the Commonwealth too. Could that possibly be why people take an interest?

Republicans will, of course, cheer them on and laud their attempts to undermine the Head of State and supporting roles. Meghan may not realise the implications as an American (or she may do, who knows) but poor dim Harry, who appeared not to even notice that his wife was suicidal, has not thought this through at all.

The institution of Monarchy has been through worse than this and survived.

This idea that the monarchy has always been respected and lauded by the British people really has to be challenged. The RF is a comparitively recent phenomena. It could be said to have begun around the time of George V1 accession, when photographs of the two girls were released to make sure there was no opposition to his taking over. But before that the RF were constantly at each others throats. Sons hated fathers, fathers and mothers hated sons, husbands kept mistresses, wives had lovers, daughters were ignored or married off. The public sometimes supported one and sometimes another. The concept of the monarchy as a virtuous, upstanding supporter of British values is a recent, and carefully orchestrated, but false, one

Just get rid of this corrupt feudal s**t show.

Stop them influencing our laws. Stop them hiding from the FBI. Stop them dodging tax.

Stop the relentless and creepy exploitation of their kids. Stop glamourising inequality. Stop conflating Toff Tory Values with Nationaly Held Values.

Callistemon Fri 12-Mar-21 10:25:01

Aveline I think Anniebach's post was meant to be ironic!

Anniebach, that's one of the first things I said - Meghan wrote an essay way before she met Harry about the racist abuse she and her mother had suffered in America as she was growing up and in her early years as an actress.

trisher Fri 12-Mar-21 10:20:41

NellG

trisher only because you're assuming that what matters to you matters to everyone and appear to perceive it to be the superior position. At this stage, if it makes you this uncomfortable it might be to your benefit to steer clear, but as you keep coming back it seems you're as invested in it as many others.

Sorry if I misunderstood and this is 'irony'

You are so good at it, it read as being from the heart. Well done!

So I take it it's OK for me to keep posting even without any investment?

Mollygo Fri 12-Mar-21 10:18:51

Anniebach, of course that’s why they went there.
The US, -‘the land of the free and the home of the brave’ must be less racist than the UK. You never read of racist incidents over there do you?

MerylStreep Fri 12-Mar-21 10:17:08

Aveline
I think you need to travel more. I could take you to several countries in Eastern Europe where racism is rife.

NellG

trisher that genuinely made me laugh! Thank you - needed a smile today. But have you ever heard of irony?

Alegrias No ball, no foul eh? I don't think expecting someone to explain their need to insult people that they interact with is a made up argument. But it's your right to choose not to defend it.

Could you point out where I have insulted people please NellG?

Commenting that people jump to conclusions based on inadequate information isn't an insult, BTW.

And you're right about Lear - I misread! Nice thought though.....

Anniebach Fri 12-Mar-21 10:11:28

Thank you tickingbird

tickingbird Fri 12-Mar-21 10:10:07

Aveline I think Annie was being sarcastic!

Anniebach Fri 12-Mar-21 10:09:32

Yes Aveline yet they leave the UK which is now being accused of being a racist country to live in America.

Aveline Fri 12-Mar-21 10:07:05

Tell that to George Floyd's family Anniebach. The US is the home of racism as far as I can see. Big difference if you have lots of money of course.
